Great road that one out of Machynlleth and over the dam, did that one in the car on our first trip to Wales coming up from the south coast - breathtaking scenery, added about an hour to the trip because we had to keep stop just to get out an take it all in. Awesome stuff, makes you wonder why so many people go abroad on their hold when we have this on our doorstep. Great video as always, thanks of sharing.

I agree on the B4518 being a nice ride. If you go from Llanidloes to Machynlleth, Llani to Mak in local slang, using the B4518 and turn left to Machynlleth via Dylife, stop at the Star inn for lunch, the road gets fairly narrow but is open with fantastic views. Shortly after turning off the B4518 towards Dylife there is a lay-by on your right with lovely views down into a valley.

I really enjoy your videos, and in particular this series in Wales as it brought back happy memories of my younger days touring with my parents. Your route back home will take you close to one of my favourite stretches of road, the A466 Wye Valley road between Monmouth and Chepstow. If you haven't already incorporated this into one of your previous tours then I can highly recommend it. I used to commute between South Devon and the Wirral, and rather than stick to the boring (but much faster) M5/M6 route, heading north I'd turn off the M5 and go over the Severn bridge and follow this route northwards until I joined the A49 south of Hereford. Excellent! Beautiful scenery: Fabulous landmarks.

I drove through Wales (I live in Australia) from north to south with a mate in '96 and all I could think about was how I'd love to be on a bike! Came from the museum in Cark, to Ruthin, and snaked down to Chepstow. Not a bad road to be seen! Went through the Brecon Beacons again in 2011 and again, alas, in a car. 😏 🏍

The Metropole in Llandrindod Wells is a good hotel. I stayed there a few times when I did the Targa Rusticana Historic Rally back in the mid 1990s a day and night rally which took us along many brilliant roads in rural Wales with stunning views. The road you still haven't ridden is the mountain road out of or down into Machynlleth depending on direction from the B4158. There are lots of brilliant riding roads in Wales. Next time ride up or down the Devil's Staircase. Your GS should manage it no problem. Just Google it. The approach to it is like Scotland and then it is very very steep. Wales is all good. The Pembrokeshire coast is pretty spec as well.

Great roads for bikes and not too much traffic by the looks of things. Maybe one day you could make a video on how you use the sat Nav to plan and plot routes. You seem to have to keep stopping and then putting in the next place, rather than do the whole route in one go. My navigation skills are hopeless, always getting lost. Can't wait for the next instalment, cheers.

You mention mud at the start of this video. I just had an accident over the holidays. Took a sweeper a little too hot on my FJR (Angel GT tires), and the second I touched a bit of mud at the edge, that was the end of it. Did a 180* spin (on purpose) before slamming sideways into horse fencing. If I hadn't spun the bike around I would have gone right through. Be careful on street rubber!

I completed the Snowdonia trip myself a couple of days ago. There were only two roads that were horrendous like you describe the beginning of your video. I took a bit of a shortcut through Pandy which was a mistake as what looked like a good surface quickly changed to what you experienced. Not recommended. But I didn't drop the bike either, so bonus really. Pretty much all the roads there were excellent. Hardly any traffic and some great hairpins round the lakes roads.

Yes I was pretty lucky. I stopped at Caernarfon overnight and it only spat a tiny bit in the morning. There was quite a bit of a mist going through the peaks of Snowdon itself but other than that, bright sunshine and perfect views. I didn't get the chance to go through the Brecons like you planned towards the end of the vid but those roads look good too and are a bit closer to me than Snowdonia Park. Great info, thanks.

I used to wonder why you keep the bike in the lower gears so much with it being a grunty 1200 twin but after buying one I now understand ... they just feel a bit rough when you try and lug them around too low in the rev range. I'm loving the bike though except the engine noises but just fitted my bluetooth headset so a bit of low music will sort that :). Amazed at how well the bike handles and how it can go from being so heavy to feeling like such a lighter bike. I have a low seat on mine and risers that come back towards the riser and can not get my bum comfy though. I think i need lowering pegs and to put the bars back. Anyhoo ... thanks for making me part with the best part of 10k by the time i bought the bike and some riding gear. Keep up the good work :) Love the videos

It's the single track and fire roads that get you to the best parts in Wales. Don't avoid them, seak them out and you will be rewarded. The GS is a capable bike, just stick some less road oriented tyres on it like Mitas E07's or similar and reduce your mileage per day to allow for the lower average speeds.

Funnily enough, spent two days riding those roads on a Tmax. Great fun and comfy too. No battling wind or rain with a tall seat and inadequate screen or getting covered in road filth. Clunking through a BMW gearbox or acheing everywhere at the end of each day. Then back to riding up to 600ml days for a weeks work no problem. They're not 'real' bikes though, obviously!

How did you get that querty keyboard up on the Nav V? , I hate the way you have to select the letters in groups to type in a place name.

Fair enough it would have only have been about a minute anyway! If you ever go that way again (and I get the impression you might!) try the road from Machynlleth to Dolgellau ; stunning scenery and views of Llyn Mwyngil.

My first taste of haggis was about 14 years ago, in a small restaurant overlooking the harbour in Oban. With tatties and neeps, of course. Must say I was pleasantly surprised. A few days later I tried some from a chippie on Cromarty, deep fried in batter, naturally! :)
