Tour of Wales by BMW R1200GS - Ep 5: Builth Wells to Brynamman
The final instalment of my "Summer" tour of Wales, a bikers paradise in any weather. In this episode I take in the roads between Builth Wells and Brynamman before finally succumbing to the remnants of hurricane Mavis (or whatever it was called)....

Being local to Brecon I have to say I'm blessed with those cracking roads you were on. I have to say though, you only being 3.25 hours from the beacons from where you live , it just goes to show that we're all never too far away from another great biking adventure. Great review. My neck of the woods. I was riding them roads last week and it was beautiful day and that's in Oct. So I don't think you can guarantee the weather no matter month it is.

Parents emigrated from Wales to Tasmania during the early '50s. Easy to see why they still felt at home. Tassie has great bike roads if you're ever tempted. Great vid. Thx.

I’m working for a small Airline based at Nagoya Komaki airport. I fly Embraer 175 throughout Japan. Really fun flying here. The bike touring here is great. Lots of winding mountain roads and beautiful coastal scenery.

Fantastic tour again TMF. Regarding the wet weather gear - I wear the RST Paragon V suit, which is similar to your RST Adventure one. It's waterproof and well ventilated for the warm, and has a quilted liner for the cold. Saves having to stop to put on waterproofs. Thanks again for the videos.

Never venture into Wales without your RST Adventure III....I bought the Adventure II suit on your recommendation and have not been disappointed....in fact, come to think you have cost me a lot of money since I subscribed..... :)

Thank you for a very enjoyable tour series. Living in Wales and biking in Wales you have covered so many roads that I ride regularly. It's great to see them from someone else's perspective, I must confess I am guilty of taking them for granted. Yes you are correct the Brynamman mountain road you did was used by Top Gear on several occasions. Remember you will always be welcome back in Wales. HWYL!! ( welsh for good cheer)

Great to watch and remote tour from Canada, some lovely scenery there, nice road surfaces (ours get hammered by brutal winters) and the BMW seems to handle it all with no fuss. The weather is a bit of a downer but you can't have it all. Your tours and reviews are a pleasure to watch, always remind me of my youth in the U.K.

Great video and that road is now in my 'to do' list! Just came back from a tour of Wales and can't believe how quiet it is once you get off the main A roads. Stunning scenery to boot. I live locally to your home base so maybe worth considering having a TMF Meet & Greet at either Barhmstormers or North Oxford? Carry on the great work!

Just caught up with this series TMF. I'm pondering on a trip around Wales next year for a long weekend. Only thing is I have to get a ferry to Portsmouth first. Been a few times in the car and did a day at the Yamaha Experience last year so definitely time I took the GS there. Great series and very informative. I'm running out of excuses..........

Hello there. Went over this mountain road from Brynamman to Llangadog on Sunday just last week,great ride but storm Brian was still hanging around so it was quite wet and windy, great vids

Hi TMF. We did quite a bit of that Welsh route yesterday whilst there was a break in the weather. If you go back; rather WHEN you go back, you really must do the Bala section that you had to cut short. Take the B4212 off the A470 at the service station. That road is unmissable. Then as you hit Bala, go straight across the head of the lake and take the mountain road (B4391 then B4396) to Knockin and onto Shrewsbury. The B4212 is 17 miles of 6th gear and no brakes. Total joy. Wide sweeping corners; perfect on a big Adv bike.

Great video as always TMF. I have just come back from a short break in Cardiff. We tried going around the valleys - Rhondda - and has to turn back as the weather came in. Yer are some great roads around there and a POI is Llantrisant and visiting the Royal Mint Experience.

Very atmospheric - especially those high moors. For "guaranteed" good weather in the UK I reckon it has to be May or early June. For years now we get a fairly good early summer before it disappears into warmish and wet changeable days. And I'm warming to the GS. Maybe I have to admit it's the ideal GP bike.

That last route was especially nice with the hairpins and added elevation climb, very scenic. As a rider who wears HG textiles, I find they're not the be all and end all to weather conditions. Despite applying repellent renewal (NikWax) the outer layer becomes sodden and cold, much like gloves do. I must order me some cheap nylon over-suit items.

Yet again another superb tour series TMF. Really looking to do some UK tours next year myself, give my shiny new Honda Crossrunner a proper outing! Regarding cyclists (myself included), most will be local or driven to a meet point. We travel light with a few items/spares etc in Jersey pockets or a seat pack. Most rides will cover a considerable number of miles and will consist of a cafe stop for coffee, cake and/or food. I look forward to your next tour.

You should consider doing some signed Calendars showing the amazing scenic views from your tours. I would definitely buy one! Very enjoyable, easy to listen to vlogging. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for a shearing your Tour of Wales, Excellent. Look forward to the next one. Re; Cyclists, They do tend to park and do a circuit, I have seen large groups of Cyclists with a large "White" Van or 2 to carry there gear and travel with them to meet at stops/Hotels Ect. I saw this recently in Austria, I must admit I have to admire all the Cyclists I saw riding up to the Grossglockner as that is some climb.

You went past the Owls Nest in Llandovery, a great bikers cafe. It was about 200 yards down the road you went on past the West End Cafe. Excellent vid BTW :)

Below 0 degrees here so it's great to ride along to get my fix. Can't wait for the temp. to go up to 5ish at which point I'll head back out. Try to avoid ice riding don't you know. From Toronto from across the big pond but my paternal grandfather was born in Monmouth-maybe that's why I like your adventures through Wales. Well done mate!

Six-month hibernators aren't hardy Canadian bikers. November 10th and I hope to be riding for another month still. Heated grips and some thermals and I'm good to go down to about 3 degrees extending the season to about nine months providing, as I said, there is no ice or snow in the forecast. Out of commish part of Dec., and Jan., Feb. for sure (although there are usually some days you can ride, it's not worth getting the bike out of storage mode and riding on salty roads) and March can go either way. In the meantime I'll ride along with you. I do love your witty repartee as you ride. Cheers mate.

Holy crap, I lived on a Sennybridge road on Canadian Forces Base Shilo and I recalled looking up the name on google back in 2008 when I moved there, and went "ah, it's named after a village in Wales"... Now you've been there, and so an extent I feel like I have too ;)

Another interesting installment! Done a lot of touring miles myself this year but still enjoy touring by proxy . In fact I've just come from Mongolia to Wales in the last hour courtesy of KZfaq contributors. (Subscribing only the highest quality ones of course 😀). Well done. Keep it up!
