Thanks for a very thorough review. One of my pet hates is manufacturers selling "comfort seat" options. This is something which Triumph are guilty of doing in several of their models. If the seat is hard enough to need a comfort option then put it on the bike when you sell it.

Well, they sell a comfort seat but a racing seat as well. The standard seat is right in the middle of both, which makes sense. Want more comfort? Get the comfort seat. Want more ‘feel’ and grip? Get the performance option. For most riders though, the standard seat is just fine. I changed the seat on my Panigale V4 to the Performance seat.

My KTM 1290SAS was sold to me as having taken extra care in making sure the standard seat was comfy (it's even in the KTM promo). Turns out it wasn't (45 mins), turns out the optional ergo seat was only a bit more comfortable (90 mins). BS seats are my no.1 pet peeve.

I’ve had 1,000km on the bike, and it’s going for its 1st service. I do agree with the vibrations but it’s only at certain rev range. It’s meant to run at high rpms at least above 3.5-4k… if you’re anything below and at the wrong gear, the screen rattles. I don’t get any screen rattle so as long as you’re above~ 3k rpm Good: 1. amazing power above 6k rpm. U can feel it pull. 2. Looks great, Comfortable, Agile and Flickable in the twisties. Oh, I’ve upgraded mine to ohlins TTX GP and it’s night and day. Love it. 3. You can push the bike and not be afraid of the power taking over u like the v4 4. Heat is surprisingly 👌 so as long as you’re riding with jeans minimally. 5. Much better range than the v4. 160-200km b4 the fuel light comes on. Lacking: 1. A bigger screen like the v4. The screen is sufficient but bigger is always better 2. Hand controls/switches less plush than the v4 3. Stock exhaust sounds 👌 but not as grunty as the v4 4. A FUEL GAUGE.

Love my V2! The throbbing V-Twin give this bike massive character. Every bike manufacture now tries to take all the vibes, engine noise, intake noise out of everything; new bikes have no character, feels like riding in a car, that's not for me! This V2 is amazing in every way and lets you know you're riding a real proper Ducati!

I agree here. I rode the Vw and V4 back to back. I chose the V2. The V4 felt so, numb, no character. It's so well put together that it just doesn't really have any character. It's, digital...if you will. It's a 208hp.enhime that somehow finds a way to feel a little boring most of the time.

Nice review; I have both the SF and Panigale V2, they feel very different despite the similarities. You mentioned the vibrations through the seat, other reviewers who rode the same press bike mentioned the issue also. Fantastic review as always TMF. It has taken me a little bit to try and work out the newer Ducati lineup. I feel like rather than distinct model lines they now have a continuous lineup of make bikes. Probably a bit of VW influence in that. But yeah as a naked bike fan I couldn’t really work out the new monster, but this video has really helped make sense of it. The monster is now the base level naked bike, this is the mid tier and the v4 is the balls to the wall insane version, and the v4 SP is the over the top one just for rich people to put in their garage and stare at. I think many of the other commentators are right then that this is the one that makes most sense to most people. Plenty of power without going nuts. I won’t lie though that suspension looked really rough in quite a few shots though. That said, as someone who is planning on getting a new naked bike in the next couple of years… I think I’d sooner get a used Monster 1200 tbh.

I only ride Ducati these days. My 959 with Akra cans is probably a tad too much at 7am and my 950 Multi on standard cans is nice after about 5k (I can’t do loud and obnoxious on long journeys). That said, for me at least, part of the ownership of these things is knowing your on a bike. I like a bit of vibe - it’s the Ducati way. A turbine smooth refined 4cyl is a bit clinical. I’m considering changing the 959 for the v2 street fighter as I’m sick of unfolding myself after half an hour so when you said it rock and rolled, I was sold.

First middling review I’ve seen on the V2 SF, major point of all reviewers (including MCN Neeves) is that the 200 bhp V4 is tooo much for the road, designed for the track and too good for most riders, the V2 addresses this and is designed specifically for it! I spent day with V2 and ordered one immediately as I had no issues with it just unbridled pleasure. Having owned many Ducatis I would consider this one of the best I’ve ridden. Go and ride one yourselves! Ps for once you didn’t mention the mirrors! I think.

Thanks for the great review. Just a few comments based on my experience with SF V2. I've had this bike for just over 2 weeks and have also owned the Monster 821 (2016) and the Monster 937 (2021). The bike has exceeded all my expectations. A much smoother engine with little to no vibrations ( like to run on higher RPM's - 5K +). Quick shifter is way smoother than the 937. Rider sits higher so that gives you a good sense of control.

Really enjoyed to see such an awesome bike. Much prefer this to the V4 which for me is a bit overkill. It’s a great A & B road machine…love it! Wouldn’t swap the Morini for it but it does look a cracking bike. You can do anything ‘on road’ with this, even tour. For touring, all you’d need is a tank bag, a bolt-on removable rack and a pannier system. Mosco Moto would sort out any practical luggage issues. For the seat issue, get down to the local carpet shop and Velcro a bit of Axminster to your trousers! 😉😁? So, if you’ve got the money to buy this, get down to the Morini garage and buy a Corsaro instead! Great vid Andy and have a lovely weekend! 👍

Thanks for your review! I only rode it for one afternoon but it did not notice any major vibrations. However I found that the engine could use more torque below 7k rpm. You really notice it's an engine made for high revs. Beyond 7k it goes berserk. The feeling of getting launched off the seat over bumps can probably be dialed out by reducing pre load of the rear spring. Did that by one notch on my new Monster 937 and it made a massive difference.

I believe the apparent two-level DRL is actually the way you manually switch to low beams (dip) as recommended for cloudy or rainy days, effectively overriding the automated system that normally switches from DRL to low beams at night. I also use that on my Diavel 1260S when I want to be more noticeable, for example when lane splitting (filtering) without using the high beams. Also, the user manual (which I realize you do not have with the press bike) has a table of suggested suspension settings. Judging by the suspension movements in the videos, I suspect the suspension is currently set for sport or track riding. It’s a good idea to zero and reset compression and rebound on any new-to-you bike.

Glad it was helpful! Have you considered the V4? - a much better bike than the V2 in my opinion - between the Street triple and the V2 I think I'd go Street Triple (I say that as a former Street Triple and current Ducati "V2" - in the form of an 899 - owner)....

Another fantastic in-depth review. These videos are really helpful in understanding what potential issues to look out for before you test ride a specific motorcycle. For me and the riding I do this V2 ticks all the boxes and is a significant savings Vs the V4 so it would be my pick between the two. I can live with all the niggles you mentioned, certainly aren’t deal breakers except for maybe the excessive heat which could be an issue in the summer in Texas. Unfortunately for me the local Ducati dealership doesn’t have a V2 Streetfighter demo so unlikely I’ll be able to test one out this summer.

I admire how you are very honest in your appraisals and say it as you see it in a respectful and considered manner. I am going to do the same with your version of twisties lol and suggest that if you want real "twisties" you should come to Australia and ride the mighty Oxley Hwy between Port Macquarie and Walcha which is one of the world's most distinguished motorcycle roads. Anyway I enjoyed your review once again thanks Andy.

Yet another excellent summing up of a not over enthralling bike. There is one other thing that I don't like and that is the name. I don't see why it has to be called a 'fighter' rather than something less aggressive. Triumph have always found good names as have Honda and Suzuki so there are plenty which wouldn't paint the aggressive idea this one puts in my mind!!

Nice review Andy. I was looking at one of these as my next bike but like you I found some things left me a little disappointed. For the money it should have the same dash as it's bigger brother. There's no cruise control, no fuel gauge, it run's bloody hot [come on Ducati, sought it] and there's no excuse for the hard seat. For less money I purchased a '22' Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4 [a genuine super naked] which is absolutely lovely to ride and a total hoot. The V4 motor is a gem and gives the best sound in motorcycling today. Try getting a test ride on the standard Tuono 1100 if you can [I think you will like it alot]. Cheers and ride safe.

Sounds similar to my V2 chuggs underload anything below 2200rpm have to keep revs above 2500rpm, Same with set up, Ducatis like fast flowing corners and speeds higher than legal for hard suspension set up to work and shine, there are to giddy otherwise in the slower stuff. Comfort seat would be fine on that, on V2 or others 899 959 ect it lifts you up and puts even more weight on your wrists, where they are too wristy to start with I suspect, my dealer does not stock them, knowing if someone tried before they buy they would not sell many. The top end though narrow is epic on these engines, it hits hard when it comes in.

It would be cool to drive that bike, looks cool other than the wasp beak on it, its funny how some manufacturers use reusable food prep containers for thier brake and clutch master cylinder fluid🤣, I'm more for the cast rectangular brake fluid reservoirs with the sight glass. "Hey Enzo! we still have any of those old camera film containers kicking around?!" Thats my take but I guess they are common on allot of brands. It is what it is, 🤷 always will be some hits and misses, always fun taking a peel around your district take care!

I really think lit switch gear is a valid grumble. Particularly when you have many buttons and sticks serving different functions. Obviously the switch gear becomes second nature once you become familiar. But there are always times when a glance down is needed. For those instances you don't want to be taking your eyes off the road for too long.

Gidday Andy. Instead of knocking the suspension, could you please get the tools out and atleast attempt to set it to something else. Most owners manuals have settings for "comfort", "street", or "sport" or similar. It would add value as to whether you can dial out the harshness or not. Regards Rich.

It is a loan/press bike, it would be rude and unacceptable to go changing the factory settings, the next person to ride it might think it was terrible and handled badly so reviewers are stuck with riding it as it comes from the shop. If Ducati thinks that this is how it should be, that is up to them.

Once again an honest review. Sure is a beauty though. I also own a naked bike which might have to be pressed into a 2 week trip. Was my hooligan, might give me a "true" review. Lol. I've done 3 days but this might kill me., or bring back memories of how I used to ride for the pure pleasure of riding and not care about comfort. Will give a review if this comes about. I bought another Multistrada 1200S today, but I was seriously tempted by this bike. The problem was mostly to do with delivery actually. There was a long wait of almost half a year at my dealership (here in NL), and that would mean I'd miss out on this season. I liked the riding position a lot better on the Streetfighter than on the Monster 821 that I also tried. But that could be fixed on the Monster with a different bar.
