Just a heads up for anyone wondering if these can go long distance/last any amount of time. Yes. We drove two of them to Mongolia, over 10,000 miles (only bothered to service them twice on the way) and they are still going, I use mine as my everyday bike in London because I love it. They handled foot deep mud, off road, sand, river crossings up to the numberplate, and too many miles of motorway through europe. They carried us and all of our gear including some off road tyres and we still managed to get 250 miles per tank (which never ran fully dry). Sinnis youtube has our post Mongol Rally interview if you want to see more =D

That's fantastic thanks for the heads up. I've got one coming next week and I can't wait. But how on earth do you cope with the running In period at reduced revs. I've never had a new vehicle before and I'm a little a little apprehensive about that part.

Some things you forgot to mention... Electrical system and instrument pod made by Siemens AG. Has separate fuses for mains, lights, ignition + spares. LED indicators, tail light + running light. Fuel injection made by Delphi. Comes with adaptor cable to connect ECU to any standard diagnostic computer. Uses standard error codes too so no problems finding someone to work on it. Centre stand means doing home maintenance is a doddle. Takes about 10 minutes to correctly adjust the chain. Rear mono-shock is adjustable for preload and damping. Regular applications of ACF-50 inhibits all corrosion. High level exhaust and air intake (under the seat) means you can ford streams/rivers/flooded roads. If disaster strikes and the airbox gets flooded there's a drain by the mono-shock. Very handy if this happens while adventuring in the middle-of-nowhere ;-) Only thing I felt necessary to change on mine was to add a magnetic sump plug. The best ones are made by Dimple and I use them on all my bikes.

Could be worse. It vibrates like hell at top speed too but ok with earplugs. I'd still recommend it. I absolutely love mine. I've never been able to lean so much doing left and right turns. I’m a 44 new rider on a CBT and just picked up a 2021 water cooled one of these for a smidge over 2k. It had 230 miles on the clock so still running it in. I’m 6ft4 and 13 stone and currently the bike does seem a bit limited on power at the higher speeds. I understand the speedometer significantly over reads too. That said I’m really enjoying it and plan to take it on a tour of the UK before progressing to bigger bikes. I saw a year old one that didn’t get too well cared for and a number of bolts were corroded. I’ve liberally applied ACF50 as per TMFs tutorial and it has come up very well. Despite the numerous naysayers the fact a pair did the Mongolian rally with no issues and teapotone did a uk tour ok speaks volumes for reliability. The service interval is disappointing but will only be an issue for the tour and I’ll talk to Sinnis beforehand about how to manage this. I haven’t been more than 60 miles yet but will gently build the distance. Wild camping will be fine and it’ll make a change for a machine to carry the weight instead of humping it all myself. Tent, kip mat, sleeping bag, odds and sods, stove, porridge, water and brew kit. Should be epic

@edwardfrench9925
@edwardfrench9925 2 жыл бұрын
@@greenxtian Hi James, I did the trip and the bike did really well. I’ve fitted Metzeler Roadtecs and upgraded the battery to a 11Amp AGM. The bike carried me (6’4”, 14 stone) plus all the clobber for something like 1500miles over four days. 9000rpm all day long. To be fair it struggled on hills but it was such a lovely ride. To focus on your specific question I found my knees would ache after two hours in the saddle. The remedy is a break every 1.5hrs or so. Attention to posture prevented my neck aching too much. My understanding is the terrain is on the larger side of 125s and others recommended a Honda Varadero for taller riders. I have my big bike course in a couple of weeks so obviously I had a 748 delivered today, lol. At my height, god loves a trier thinking he will be able to ride that… I encountered many naysayers over the terrain and Having put 3000miles on mine in six months, I’d happily recommend it, even at 6’7”!

Back in the day I toured around Europe on a Yamaha RS125, and while I was in France, I met a couple touring 2 up on a Yamaha FS1E moped. You can tour on anything if you want to. As an aside, can you please include the seat height in your reviews. I'm an inch taller than you, but my short legs mean if you can't flat foot a bike, I can't touch the ground. It's the first spec I look at before yet again ruling out another machine I can't ride.

They source their rearview mirrors from the same place Kawasaki does. I saw a vid of a guy in the UK riding a '19 Honda CB500X. That looks like an awesome bike. It's got a nice 19" front tire which gives good off road stability and a lot of tire choices. It's also light and goes like a rocket on the backroads. Reminds me of the 125 Varadero I owned. The Varadero was bulletproof, albeit not overly great at long distance commuting involving any higher speed roads as was a little lacking in power, but I would be interested to see if the Sinnis is still running in five years time, or if it has turned into a pile of corroded metal....

I'll have to pile on with the short service intervals. Seriously, if this were my bike, that sort of mileage would see me in the shop roughly every two months, and the cost per annum begins to rise on a *really* steep curve. Having said that, I live in Northern California, so my riding season is more or less year round (although we're certainly getting pounded with rain and snow this year). Here's another consideration - at some point, most vehicles seem to have a "major" service after a certain mileage is reached, and that service can often be a pretty large lump of lucre, so if this little bike requires servicing at such short intervals, when is that major service required and how much is the cost of it? A serious rider might hit the major service once a year!

CST is a brand name for Cheng Shin Tyres. Remember those tyres you had on your Raleigh Burner BMX in the 80’s? Yep you guessed it, they made them. I believe they also have a link with Maxxis which makes tyres for performance bikes too. I have a set of CST tyres on my Honda Vision 110 as standard from the factory and in their defence, I have to say they are fine. They last about 50% longer on the rear than Michelin’s and sure, you have to be more careful as they wear down but they are fine. I wouldn’t put them in the bad category by any means like maybe the TVS tyres on the CBF125 when new. Now they were incredibly bad and seemingly made of solid nylon.

Have to say, it looks Really cool. If i were 16 years old and wanted a bike for trips around the country (Norway), i would definitively consider this bike. Having a A licence, i would want at least a 500cc bike though. Hard to do serious touring with a 125cc. That said, for riding to your buddies and school, i'd say it's a good alternative if you're more into practicality then hooligan riding.

TMF - 2000 miles doesn’t seem like a reasonable annum value, if people will use as a commuter giving 20 miles round trip per day and 20 work days is 400 per month or 4800 a year. For the UK. That should double your service calculation...
@chrisredfield3240
@chrisredfield3240 5 жыл бұрын
Even at 4800miles per annum, bike servicing would end up costing so much it would be more than a car by a big margin. Most cars/vans have 20k service intervals, compared with motorcycles it makes changing your own oil a must if commuting.

He even got featured on the new sinnis website video, full clip on his yt chan- kzfaq.info/love/GQN3npFDegoIAROPsM4-2A As a parent the crash bars definitely appealed to me, he's had to change the rear tyre now and fitted a metzeler tourance which has been great. One of my considerations when buying a bike is resale value. I'm guessing a used Sinnis 125 would bring almost enough cash to buy lunch but not much more. But I could be wrong. These things may turn out to be super reliable and durable which would do wonders for their value.

Really Interesting video. I've been very tempted to buy one as a commuter HOWEVER the servicing intervals/costs are crazy. I would be doing 6800 miles every year so I would need 6 services in the first year alone! That's about £550!!! Sinnis and other "cheaper" bike brands seem to be employing the same marketing strategy as Computer Printer Manufacturers and Mens Razors. (The initial purchase of the item is cheap but the subsequent cartridges/blades/services are where the real money is made! Yes, you could do the servicing yourself but to maintain the warranty during the first 2 years you gotta get it done at a dealer. There is no such thing as a free meal, as they say!

Being a 125cc air cooled single cylinder I seriously doubt there's much to go wrong. Despite their recommended service interval I'm sure you could service it less often and easy to do yourself (assuming it takes commonly available oil filters, or maybe it has an internal screen type filter...like a scooter).

Linking brakes is not for me as I use loads of back brake in rainy/slippy conditions and as little front as possible. Id say that was more dangerous. Ok if you need a cheap bike for commuting on flat roads. That young geezer in the Hovis advert would still be pushing that thing up the hill! 😉😉

Totally agree with your small bike comment. After years of big bikes my new CRF250l is like rediscovering biking. After buying mainly for commuting i now use it for everything and dont see that changing. The question is what to do with my Triumph Thunderbird that i genuinely believed was a keeper? Those Sinnis service intervals though? Jeez makes a CRF450l look reasonable. Hoping that is on your list to test?

Hi MF, great review as always. I'm not sure if you mentioned the fuel economy of this bike. It's surely one of the strongest value features of these smaller engines. Apologies if I missed it. Finally, the camera used for the internal shots is focus hunting far more often than it should be given the stable lighting and minimal movement. Mabe time to invest in something more stable or consider changing the settings. Great work as always on your review, it's surely the most comprehensive and professional of any on-line video reviews. The bike manufacturers should consider offering you a role in their social media marketing efforts.

I honestly enjoyed this surprisingly lengthy review for a small capacity Asian import. That said I'm perplexed why a motorcycle you describe as an adventure bike, the name of which is "Terrain", was not at all ridden by off road. You even showed us how to wash it but there was no dirt on it. Tell me there's a Part 3 when the Terrain will actually see some terrain.

If you add the Toro exhaust supplied and fitted on new Terrain bikes by Sinnis, it adds 1hp to the power output and lets the engine breath a bit better. Top speed seems to be around 65mph on bikes with the Toro as you can see from other KZfaq videos. Also don't forget, you need to get a couple of thousand miles on the clock to let the engine loosen up and properly conform before it produces full power.

The remarkable thing about the Chinese is their ability to listen to what people want and present a very attractive package at a good price. The service intervals are a bit steep - they may well be in line with Peugeot scooters, but you'd expect to do a few more miles on a bike than on a scoot. ( unless it's a big ole scoot)

@@canturgan Yes I almost bought a 850 Le Mans II at the time ( until the financing fell through and I lost my deposit ! ) I don't mind linking front brake to a bit of rear brake on a larger road bike but not rear brake to the front on a small adventure bike that might be ridden offroad, if you can dial in the braking balance it might be ok...
