The brown "rust" on the silencer is likely nothing more than mild discoloration caused by the materials initial reaction to heat. The exhausts on these bikes are actually very durable.
@ianc4901
@ianc4901 2 жыл бұрын
It looks exactly like the grinding belt used to clean up the metal after shaping was contaminated by grinding mild steel beforehand and this has been transferred to the stainless steel. This is a very easy mistake to make especially with poorly trained staff but unfortunately not easy to rectify, once stainless has been ground with a contaminated belt it has to be ground with a clean belt otherwise it will always rust again ! It is rust but on a particle level making it appear like a stain, it will clean off with rust treatments but will always come back.

I do actually like that "patina" effect on the muffler. Gives it a more vintage-y kind of look since a scrambler is already a vintage looking bike.

I must admit I do like Royal Enfields and this is another great bike for commuting and country lane riding for the simple enjoyment of it. I actually like the yellow things on the tank and also the discolouring of the exhaust system I think actually adds to the look. If it had a lot of chrome like other RE models I think it would be a problem if it was discolouring but not here. For the welding, although it wouldn’t bother me I don’t know why you would get bad welds at all these days. Fashion segment on your 360 cam was hilarious I can see why people would give you odd looks.

It's good for what it is, and is the right size for a 'Scrambler' type of bike; too many of them are far too big.

As someone who has never had a fuel gauge on a bike (not I think the first time I have written that!) your comment about the fuel gauge on the Scram did raise a smile 😃!
@simond5208

The only bike I've ever owned with a fuel gauge was an '80s GPz750. It was as useless then as most of them are now - that's what the trip meter is for. I guess if you ride as many bikes as TMF then you don't get to know them well enough to judge fuel usage.
@chrishart8548

My first bike with a fuel gauge was a 1983 honda cb125rs probably a stand out feature on such a bike. The liquid cooled 125's would have a temperature gauge instead.

I picked up my brand new 2022 Himalayan three weeks and 1500 kms ago and I have to say I absolutely love it. It seems to do on-road and off-road equally well and the engine is easing off nicely. Fuel consumption is extraordinary also - 2.6 ltrs/100 kms or well over 100 mpg.

My observations regarding the “rusting” silencer, it is stainless and there are different grades, some rust less than others but don’t confuse heat discolouration with rust. Speaking as someone who has ridden a Himalayan for many miles, my silencer and front pipe have discoloured with use, but no rust. There was a time when people paid extra for heat marks on their after market cans!

Looking very dapper Mr. Flyer! I'm so glad that the 411 works off road as well as it looks, I'm sure many people will want one as a "second bike" I'd like to see this machine pushed a bit harder on the rough to see how resilient it is, but I appreciate you can't do the more extreme stuff. Many thanks for the ride along. :>)

Nice review TMF & a great little bike too it seems. As for Stainless Steel I can assure you it does rust. There are so many different grades & qualities. Also the Zinc coating naturally wears & heat also accelerates the process too so a stainless steel exhaust's days are always numbered.

A GS is a very good road bike anyway. The rs is to sporty, the rt is huge. Naked bikes and in the main a sports bike with the fairing removed. I think the adventure bikes have in the main replaced what we used to call standards.

Im currently a Himalayan owner and despite your insults (I had to cover its ears, its very sensitive) i love my little Himi and is a surprisingly sweet handling bike so no suprise with the 411. I will concede the 411 is prettier. I think the yellow side pods just cover where the Himalayan side frames mount.

There are different types (grades) of stainless steel. Some will 'rust', possibly in the way we see on the exhaust, others won't. Like bikes and riders, they're not all equal and they come in different flavours.

The problem is companies like to keep buying cheap stainless steel from China.. which is full or iron and rusts really bad. I'm convinced quality steel no longer exists. Not since we stopped producing it anyway.
@TheGreatStKat
@TheGreatStKat 2 жыл бұрын
@@4RMS7TRONG the worst SS I bought was from the USA, so what are you claiming, and why?
@4RMS7TRONG
@4RMS7TRONG 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheGreatStKat I'm claiming that the UK sold all their quality steel manufacturing plants across the entire country to a Chinese manufacturer.. who then proceeded to shut down British steel completely and unload everything to China. Now anything produced from Chinese steel turns to rust. There's no reason behind it.. its just a cheaper manufacturing process, producing cheap steel.

Not the reviewer's fault - videos on this channel are excellent - but I'm one of those who raises my eyebrows when that is described as off-road; a Harley or a 'Busa could cope with that just as easily. The issue is with the labels manufacturers are applying to their bikes these days as they are somewhat stretched in their meaning. For this bike, the irony is that in India that is a good road........ The reviews here are enjoyable, and in particular the monthly "Bike News."

The himalayan does the same on different dash. The tank takes you 250 miles between filling but you get to half a tank and have 140 miles on the trip, next minute you look it near empty and has tripped onto 0 miles trip A I think telling you that you need fuel. Which you don't. I usually fill up anyway.

The bike seems pretty solid for the dosh... although that exhaust looks horrid with the marking on it from the heat, and you are right, them mirrors would have to go too! :D The jacket looks good... my problem is my belly is a size or two larger than my shoulders and arms, so I really struggle to get leather jackets to fit me currently.

Thank you for posting. I recognize RE focus value for money. Not much wrong with the philosophy, but it requires volume sales to make it duly profitable. I suspect RF will have to start making some higher priced units (higher quality/features as well). If I am correct, specially since what I am saying is truly speculative, I look forward to that next lever of product. One more thing. I sent you and email to your gmail account. If/when you find the time, you could take a peak at it, and answer some questions I posted in the email. Thanks in advance.

If RE can do great bikes for 4600, why is everyone else do expensive? Or greedy? Really like it. And fork gators should be standard on every bike too. Hope it does really well. BTW, what was the bag? Happy travels 👍

Most manufacturers build to very small profit margins. The RE is definitely built to a price with exhaust deteriorating, poor welds from factory etc... The sweet spot for any "affordable" bike is for the money to be saved in the right places that don't detract from the ownership proposition. Problem is ... This is different for everyone. Some would prefer a cheap finish with more tech, some will take a hit on cheaper suspension components with the compensation being better fit and finish. Almost endless other cases. Very tough balance to get right.

It's not just cost to manufacture, you have to also look at the various tariffs, taxes and levies available depending on where bikes are built and sold. Take a look at the Fortnine video regarding dealerships and also the HD video for some simple info, highly recommended

Nice review Andy, as usual. Yes, the exhaust has a bit of tarnish, & there are a couple of things that may not be to everyones taste, indeed, but every bike is different & appeal to different riders, thats why we love bikes. Yes the exhaust finish isn't brilliant, but, its £4600! Polish & elbow grease is cheap. I think its great for the money. Come on guys be positive! 😀

I couldn’t see how this would be any different to the Himalayan but after riding one around the roads of Devon it is so much better. No point in reving the nuts off it though due to the engine buzz. The engine seems perkier and the handling was brilliant. Not so keen on the Himalayan.

You'll never be able to sneak up on anyone wearing that jacket given how much it creaks and squeaks! But it's extremely stylish, so people should be turning around and looking at it. And I think I recall reading somewhere that buffalo leather is very tough.

Hi Andy, concur with your opinions regarding the RE. The T&C that flash up at the start of the video, is it something You Tube ask you to do ? I remember watching a documentary about subliminal messages being illegal on TV, as it’s You Tube perhaps it doesn’t matter. Just a heads up Andy, I don’t want you to get in trouble. Does Mrs Flyer know you got the 360 camera to clock the fit birds out jogging ? I might have to get one!

Good job Royal Enfield I like the bikes, and for the price who can complain. Perhaps the exhaust just hasn't been clean or looked after seeing as this is a demo. Like Triumph, well impressed with my Tiger 900 GT Pro finish. Your gear is bit expensive, or is that a sign of the times. I went out todY myself and thought it would be nice and sunny, turned out to be foggy from St Just to Padstow, good job I got the fog lights on the Tiger, but the scram would of loved some of the Padstow to Newquay roads, not sure about beating back on the dual carriage way though, but the Tiger loved it. Anyway enough of my bubbling good job Royal Enfield.

Hi love this video, I am a little in love with the Scram. I just wanted to ask your interpretation of the owners manual, specifically the service schedule. There is another influencer saying that the interval is 6000. I have read the manual and took it as a 3000 interval. I would love to read your thoughts on this.
