This is the way to get past Wilder`s long lead and straight right hand, this is how Tyson didn`t deal with Buster`s jab while clowns were in his corner, sad.

Liam Smith did. But it's best suited for small fighters fighting bigger guys. Tyson was a lot shorter than most Heavyweights, which is why the style was freaking perfect for him. It was inspired by the legendary boxer Jack Dempsey, who regularly fought bigger opponents. He is the father of boxing and one of the first people to take boxing beyond "punching".
@anonymous8780
@anonymous8780 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrSirFluffy Height has nothing to do with it. That's a very common misconception about D'Amato's style. Joey is a tall and lanky guy, yet he was very effective with D'Amato's style. Trainers and fighters are simply not aware of D'Amato's technical, psychological and philosophical approach to boxing.

You should do body type specific striking defense. What would a tall, lean guy do ? What would a shorter, stocky guy do ?

@Razgriz the Mandalorian Same fundamentals apply whether you're 5'5" or 7' D'Amato's style works with every body type. Of course a tall fighter shouldn't go crouching, weaving low against a shorter guy, they should fight taller, but still employ the same approach of hands up, chin down, moving their head side to side.

Always watch the chest never watch the eyes or hands you see the chest start to flex you slip or move it takes some time to master I been boxing for 17 years now since I was 11 years old so I have had alot of time to learn it but if you get good you'll actually will see the chest flex before the punch is thrown an you'll see both pecks flex if someone throw the 1,2 you can also see the back shoulder move forward a little after they throw the jab an that's another way to tell if their gonna throw the 1,2 because if they are just gonna throw the jab usually the back shoulder will move backwards instead of forward because he isn't coming with the second punch an the shoulder moves back because he is moving the jab back after the punch an the shoulder moves back instead of forward because he is getting back to the set position to throw another punch instead of actually throwing the second punch after the jab but if they were to throw the 1,2 both pecks will flex on the chest an the back shoulder will move forward because subconsciously the fighter knows he gonna throw the 1,2 an its usually hard to get off more then 1 clean shot so the fighter with subconsciously start moving that back shoulder because he knows that he has to get both punches off as quick as possible to have any chance of landing both punches I hope that helps lol it hard trying to describe over message haha I am better in person haha I actually teach fighting an self defense if your interested an also remember that fighting is 90% mental an only 10% physical that why you sometimes see a smaller guy out box an beat up and bigger stronger guy because he out smarter him boxing is about setting up traps an countering and taken advantage of your opponent mistakes

Probably just in terms of not ducking so low, other than that I think it could be addapted. After all Bas Rutten himself has stated several times that he based part of his fighting style in Mike Tyson's peek-a-boo style, hence it can't be all that bad for MMA

Yeah head kicks and knees kinda limit how much you can slip.
@corylahey9941
@corylahey9941 5 жыл бұрын
pahwraith not as much as you'd think , because threat of the takedown limits their use of kicks and knees lol. also aldo was crushing with head movement this past weekend doing full out joe frazier bends at the hips downward while on the cage. doesn't go much lower than that and he aint even a strong wrestler.
@MrRazmut
@MrRazmut 5 жыл бұрын
@Badger0fDeath Well someone like Cerrone will definitely shin you in the head if you keep bending to the sides really dramatically, just give him a bit of time to make the read and you´re done. Most MMA fighters aren´t on that level though, so if you´re throwing back some good shit while evading their punches instead of just letting them tee off and observe what you´re doing, most of the time they aren´t gonna figure u out like that and set up a head kick. Most guys aren´t even that good at head kicks. But I still wouldn´t teach myself to react defensively with those kinda big head movements. You only gotta read the guy wrong once or fall for a feint and you´re definitely gonna get kicked or taken down. If you stay more upright and try to get out of range instead it´s much more reliable in my experience. Small tight slips and pulls are more what I would use, cut the big bobs and weaves. Unless you can wrestle, then bobbing is great coz it´s also a feint takedown, if the guy isn´t reacting to it u can just shoot in next time.
@MrRazmut
@MrRazmut 5 жыл бұрын
@Badger0fDeath I can't think of any off the top of my head, but when im sparring kickboxing against someone with good legs I do make sure to stay more upright. Coz then it'll take a much longer time to lift the leg enough to drop me, and I can just lean back if the kick isn't set up. And if my opponent is crouched down especially towards my powerside it screams "kick me in the head", it's super hard for them to avoid. When you spar with a good kicker you can feel the threat right away. Just compare kickboxing and boxing movement. More flat footed coz of low kicks, more upright coz of high kicks. Becomes more about blocks and counters instead of slips or bobs and counters, IMO.

@melchaios

I mostly agree, however in all fairness the guys shown don't look like trained boxers, but more like average students who are still learning. But while in the video they look clumsy and they have to bend the knees a little bit more, the general concept is right. I believe that's the thing with the peek-a-boo style, it's not "orthodox slipping technique". Peek-a-boo is an unorthodox fighting style in general, it doesn't have the sideways bladed stance of classic boxing, they stand all squared up and headmovement doesn't involve the regular bobbing-weaving motion. Instead they slip with the trunk in a sideways motion, which makes the headmovement more crisp.
