A fun casting choice the actress voicing the Everlight is the same person who played the FBI director on Blindspot so she went from playing Ashley's boss in a live action show to playing her boss in an animated show.

Pike actually did have an alignment shift. She brutally murdered an enemy in a not-holy way, and Matt made a point of having her pendant break and telling her why it happened.

Yup yup. That happened before the Briarwood arc. Seemed like Ashley just forgot she was playing a cleric of Sarenrae and got caught up in the thrill of being a murder hobo. But the DM remembers....

I do remember the pendant breaking, but i don't recall any alignment shift happening then. Are you sure about that? I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I don't remember it.

It was also a subclass change (not sure) I think she was light or life cleric and became a war cleric.... (which is probably a worse class overall but fits pike MUCH better)

Her alignment changed when she brutally murdered someone that didn't need to be killed, and she had to seek atonement to regain her full powers. The subclass change happened earlier, in their home game before the stream started.

I mean, Serenrae is a Neutral Good deity, not lawful. one of her tenants is literally "dispatched with swift justice Those who are beyond redemption"

Same! And I like the "Any path can be a holy one" line. Splits away from the very common "Our way is the only way" mentality that a lot of religions have, despite there being more than one way to be a good person.

She's the goddess of forgiveness and redemption, but in Matt's lore she was too lenient with the wrong enemy during the battles of the Calamity, with disastrous consequences (notice how her form here is fractured). Makes sense she'd enable the path of brining a violent end to those who are judged /not worthy/ of redemption.

@@hhylobates4098 in pathfinder lore that actually is part of her characterization aswell, she teaches redemption for most but there are two exceptions, Rovagug the god of destruction and Asmodeus, the prince of hell who once helped imprison Rovagug but proved to be beyond redemption as he killed his brother Ihys (who basically was Sarenrae's father). I really like how Matt translated that aspect of her character though and made sure she wasn't just the smol goody two-shoes goddess bc looking at her domains one could be easily led to believe that about her.

I love that, in other shows the death fake out is pretty trope-y, here it's just a depiction of Matt during resurrection rituals giving everybody a heart attack.

I think it's cool to know that because of how Mercer runs his campaigns some of the big moments that may seem like plot armor are actually down to dice rolls and there is a very real chance that it goes the other way. Gives it so much more weight and you really don't know how things will turn out.

Pike's connection to the Everlight and cracked symbol thing happened to some extent in the campaign, and she changed from light domain to war domain I think rather than changing alignment, but there is also her absence during key episodes to consider.

Well it was more Pike went from a Pathfinder Cleric to a 5e cleric. She went war domain because of the powers and kind of leaned into it more than Sareneae would normally be cool with, so things changed a bit

Well stakes got higher, Percy vs Anders fight was brutal a true highlight of Percy's capabilities on his own, keyleth and Cassandra moments, pike's finding her way ala groggy and last but not least a horde of undead vs vox machine were in for one hell of a fight

Not something you mentioned so I wanted to bring up how after killing Anders they show Percy dropping the mask and the gun to go over to Cass. Loving that symbolism 😚👌🏻

I think Charm is generally a wisdom saving throw. Both Grog and Yasha had fairly low Wisdom, (10 & 9/10) though Grog's brand of Barbarian (Berserker) has a perk at later levels: immunity to being charmed while raging. Which is why Matt had to find other ways to avoid Grog's wrath in C1 but could keep throwing charm at Yasha throughout C2.

Grog actually had the immunity to being charmed while raging at this point, but in the stream version of the Anders fight he still got charmed because he ran into the room and didn't have a chance to rage before Anders charmed him.

I took it as more of a jab at Percy for continuing to run away instead and checking if she was alive and trying to save her. The way in which she remarked it.

A visually stunning episode. I always enjoyed the horizon effect for Pike during meditation, but then the everlight appeared, and everything else that followed. Keyleth's magic lighting effects while healing Cassandra. The fantastic ricochet shot from Percy taking out Ander's jaw. The reverse zoom through the zombie horde at the end. The show always looks great, but episode 8 especially looked especially good.

The two moons are visible in the sky, and yet the cast only learned about Rudius in C2 because apparently the party never looked up in 5+ years of gameplay.

Indeed Pike never lost her powers in the campaign. What they did for Pike's absence backstory was that the religion of the Everlight is a small forgotten one, and she stayed back in Vasselheim to help excavate and rebuild a recently found forgotten temple to the Everlight.

Yeah, that's how it went. But I do think she might have had a crisis of faith pre-stream when she was a pirate for a bit. Also liked the touch that her diety was almost unknown because it was from Pathfinder, rather than D&D.

She did have a moment where her connection with Sarenrae was weak in the Underdark arc after she slit a defenseless man’s throat.

They are combining two stories into one with her, because she did lost her abilities temporarily because of how she killed some unarmed "Innocent" individual and Matt took her powers away as a warning.

To answer Wendy's question, the c1 episode didn't end there, that fight actually happened pretty early in episode 33 and Cass got a healing potion from Vax before Percy even made it into the room.

Her powers failed on campaign one. I don't remember exactly when, but it was because she was doing all sorts of weird things with Scanlan. Like shitting someone's bed if I am not mistaken. Killing violently. It was when they were in underdark I believe. Kraghamner arc.

IIRC only scanlan was shitting, and just taking a dump on several beds, even keeping an eye on pike when she was away via shit-scrying. the needlessly violent murder is what got her in trouble.

Yeah. But before she considered shitting someone's bed, like Scanlan. And gave up. It was that behaviour that kind made Matt think her behaviour wasn't what serenrae would expect. And when she did the violent death it was the last straw. At least that is how I remember it.

She almost shit a bed along with Scanlan, but Matt literally intervened and reminded her about her alignment issues. So she didn't. It stood out to me since it was pretty unusual for Matt to flat out intervene like that.

@@danielvanpatten5815 i wouldn't say unusual, there are a few points throughout Campaign 1 where Matt gave hints and even made obvious changes to how he interacted with the players pretty much saving them from dire mistakes. One point in particular in the Briarwood arc he changes from saying how much damage he did, to asking someones remaining HP then claiming his attack did all but 1 of their HP. Totally fixed, annoyed me, but their game, I'm just an audience member.

I heard another youtuber say , Pike has a blindspot in her faith for this part of the story hehehe, I so hope they work that in, where they ask her what happens and pike says, I just had a blindspot or she explains it and someone else makes the analogy hehe

She did not change alignment, but she felt the Everlight fading, possibly warning of an alignment change. What happened with Pike was what they said was happening when Pike could not be there. It was cool to see.

In Campaign 1 her holy symbol did break in the craghammer arc prior to the briar wood arc, because she slit a dying enemy's neck with her mace. She never lost her power but did need to prove herself to her goddess, to mend her holy symbol.

Also really been loving keyleth in this show, Marisha got a lot of shit when the campaign first aired so it’s really cool that we get to see her doing awesome stuff even with the self doubt

They skipped 2 storylines, the thing in Craighammer and the stuff in Vasselheim, Pike stayed in Vasselheim the help rebuild the Temple to the Everlight.

My brother was watching Critical Role before me. I Saw two episodes of Campaign One Late 90's early 90's? Then decided to watch it from the beginning to catch all the way up. Then about the middle of Campaign 2 my sister started watching, and we re-watched all of Campaign One, and caught her all the way up in Campaign 2. Now we are all watching Campaign 3.

To my recollection, her amulet cracked in kraghammer after she did a murder. Then she stayed in vasselheim when the party left to rebuild the temple. There wasn't an alignment change, she just did a murder and then set out to bring back the everlight to vasselheim

Pike did have an alightment shift that she had to work through but pre campaighn her domain also changed from life to war and it feels like they're combighning both with this storyline.

Pikes holy symbol did crack and it was used as an excuse for her not being able to go with the party. She had to stay behind and reconnect with her diety, but that was in her alter at the keep. When the went to Whitestone i think she was just helping repair the temple or build a temple or something like that. But I love that the did this too. It seemed to me like Pike leveling up and getting to choose War Cleric.

Dude the Briarwood arc started back in ep 23 of the campaign, and there are huge chunks missing not to mention Tiberius Stormwind, the campaign starts in Kraghammer. But your right the series is awesome. I would say that season 2 will be about the Chroma Conclave as General Kreig was in this at the beginning along with blue dragon, plus the rug in his study screamed Chroma Conclave.

They actually changed quite a bit especially in these 3 episodes. Still great episodes but I would have really loved to seen Vax's heroic moment rushing in solo to try to save Cassandra, while yelling jenga in his ear piece. Also for pike her alignment was changed do to a brutal way she killed an enemy in the campaign and to help cover for her leave for blind spot matt had her go to help rebuild a temple of the sarenrae(everlight).

It shows the bond they were building as a group, willing to endanger himself for Percy's sister so in my opinion it has more value than just Percy fighting everything himself. Not saying the animation is bad just I prefer the original.

That was so good when Grog was possessed and the others I like how the voices blended and so well choreographed. Pike’s challenge was intense. Btw I want to join your National Sarcastic Society like I’m going to wait for you to answer me.

During Kraghammer, Pike did cut a dead duergars throat with a spike of a morningstar and her holy symbol did crack. The whole redemption I believe happened after Pike was written off because of Blindspot and during the time her symbol repaired itself while she was off repairing the temples (?). Not sure if I remember it right. This however, is better. It let's us understand a clerics relationship with their deity a little better and gives her character growth.

In the campaign Pike was in Vasselheim rebuilding the lost Temple of Sarenrae during this period. But that I don't think would play as well story wise as what they're doing with her

The crazy thing is that both raging barbarians and half-elfs have advantage saving throws against charm. They were either bloody unlucky or Anders is OP.

Barbarians don't get advantage against charm while raging. Berserker barbarians, however, are immune to charm while raging after 6th level.

@@WillfulVisions Thanks that is more accurate. Grog is a berzerker subclass so he should have avoided it (Unless Vax didn't piss him off enough). My statement still hold true for 3 half-elfs. Not a single one made it. Even with Vax's Luck

@@yiklongtay6029 I don't remember how excatly it happened on screen, but Anders managed to get Grog under his spell. I think it might have been Dominate Person. Maybe he went first in Initative and Grog didn't get the chance to activate his Frenzy?
