As a queer person, when I saw this on social media, I was like, "Okay cool. lol" Pretty sure he is adding more to the culture because he is an artistic individual untarnished by the pressures of writers like this one. Queer or not, he has amounted to diversifying art and creating a niche in music very unique to others, I follow a lot of the artists that started up thanks to him :) Also to add to that, his overall aesthetic and fashion subtleties push the boundaries of masculinity which I love. His sense of masculinity is fluid and tastefully nuanced and it shows through his music, his art, and his fashion.

I think maybe the reason that people care so much, for me anyway, as a massive hip hop fan and gay man, is that there's hardly any gay hip hop artists out there. Actually, pretty much none. When you have so little representation in such a huge, awesome genre, and when straight hip hop artists flaunt their sexuality continuously in their lyrics, media, and lives, it leads me to wonder, with all these "openly straight" rappers that make their sexuality so obvious, why is it so taboo or offensive to want to have an openly gay rapper for some representation? But as soon as you ask that, you're being attacked. Why does it matter? Why do you care? Can't you just enjoy the music? It's none of your business! Are all flung at you. But it isn't fair. When I say I would like an openly gay hip hop artist, I don't necessarily mean a rapper that will lead the gay day parade and be the world's #1 gay rights activist and be over the top flamboyant, although there's nothing wrong with that; I just want a rapper who could still be fire and also just be gay. In regards to Tyler saying "homophobic/transphobic" things in his lyrics, many times when people first realize they aren't straight they try to deny it and act like it's not so. As a result of this, they say things like that because it makes them feel better. Almost every LGBT person that I know has gone through this phase, myself included. Also even if he isn't coming out and it turns out that he is "trolling" then I'm not bothered by that. If anything, it just would prove how stupid the hype of celebrities coming out is. Sure it is cool for them to come out, but it shouldn't be something that every media outlet discusses and questions. Like that's whack.

I think the major issue is he has used slurs against the gay community and made it seem like gay is bad (i.e. calling his father the f word).
