“Kabi” ta thiye tara “ Maha Kabi” vanna suhaudaina. He was a very educated man when literacy rate in Nepal at that time was under 5%. Unlai Khas Bhasa ko ramro gyan thiyo but most of his popular works were not original. “Shakuntala” was based on Kalidas’ “Abhijñānaśākuntalam”, “Bhikhari” was based on William Wordsworth’s “The Old Cumberland Beggar” and even his most famous “Muna Madan”was based on an old Newari ballad “Ji Waya La Lachhi Maduni”. His purely original works were on more mundane topics like “Ban”, “Kisaan” and “Baadal”.

When we were studying we had a different meaning of "udasya ke linu udi chhunu chandra ek" Instead of just looking at this line read the whole poem: संसारमा सबै भन्दा ठूलो के? पसिना र बिबेक उदेस्य के लिनु उडि छुनु चन्द्र एक। we were told that devkota didn't had a great life, we was a struggler. It woud be stupid to dream so big as aiming to fly and touch moon for a average strugglers. Who shoud stay happy as on what they got and can do "be senseful and hardwork and sweat" पसिना र बिबेक
