If there's one thing I've learned over the past few years of endurance training, proper fueling is the most critical aspect of improving performance. And the truth is most people aren't fueling appropriately or understand how to fuel for their individual needs. So in this episode, I clear up some industry confusion and teach you why, what, and how to set up your fueling strategy to have more successful training sessions and race days.

@nickbare you should create a marathon supplement bundle to go with your training plans. Like a one stop shop for 12 or 16 weeks of training for a marathon. All the needed workouts, nutrition plan, and then all the supplements to go for each workout.

19:33 - 20:05 This takes me back to basic training when I learned about David Goggins & his philosophy, which (along with Nick's lessons) helped me through my career thus far. I kinda hope that one day, Nick does a podcast with David. 🙏🏾

Applaud your professionalism and finesse in all your podcasts. Mushers have always held highest regard in my minds' eye. The epitome of overworked and undernourished. They too are overseeing the nutrition and well-being of their dog team. A different kind of endurance athlete if-you-will.

Nick, your dedication to proper fueling for performance is truly commendable! Could you share some specific everyday nutrition tips for those who are training intensively, like how to navigate appetite changes and maintain consistent energy levels throughout the day?

How do you figure out your macros to compensate your training volume without over or under doing it?

Simple carbs are what gives you the most energy. Basically the more unhealthy the carb the better. When I eat stuff like cookies and donuts the day before my 20 mile long run I do every Saturday I have way more energy then I do when I just eat clean the day before

Hey Nick I appreciate this information. Just reviewed my Nuuns tablets sodium profile and I LOL. I have been using BPN Electrolytes for the last 1.5 years for my long runs but I have restricted myself to one scoop. But just this past weekend I oppted for 2 scoops and the difference was noticable. I just ordeder G1M to compliment but... Can you give an example of your carb build up 2 to 3 days prior to your race or long WO?? I am preparing for my first marathon december 10th.

I'm starting to follow Nick's Hybrid training on the Playbook app. Based on the information in this podcast, does Nick recommend running in the morning or afternoon when I'm more fueled? I'm comfortable lifting in the am or pm but running is fairly new to me. Running in the morning is okay, right? As long as you properly replenish carbs the night before and during if need be (i.e. apple, orange, banana, honey..)

Morning run Evening lift Fuel up before both workouts For the run in particular u can use fast carb sources like white bread, honey, jam/jellys, Pop tarts, GU gels etc. Get 1-2 meals in afterwards leading up to the evening lift

Unless you just enjoy pissing your money away, you don't need to buy expensive electrolyte powders. Sodium is by far the most depleted electrolyte when you sweat, and you can buy 500mg - 1g tablets for dirt cheap. Maybe drop a couple sugar cubes in there (15g) for every 500mL. Potassium, magnesium, calcium etc. are lost in such miniscule amounts that you don't need to drink them intra-workout. But Nick won't tell you this because he wants to sell you BPN. And you'll buy it because you're a sucker.

Agreed. Tablets or just add 500-1000 mg sodium citrate in your drinks for cheap. Gut is happy
