I'm from louisville, and that spot by the river is by the skatepark. i've walked down and stood on top of the jump many times. Even as a skater for 30 years seeing everything, I couldn't comprehend how it was even possible or how anyone could even think it was possible.

I’d be really impressed if he’s still doing gaps and drops that big at 40 also! I just turned 52, and there hasn’t been a single day in the past 3 years that my knees haven’t hurt. I grew up doing huge drops in the late 70s and early 80s, and then moved on to gaps as skating progressed and the Ollie became the foundation of street skating. On a side note; I also remember when Rodney came up with the kickflip, and he was almost excommunicated from the skate scene, because “ that weird shit ain’t skatin dude!”

I’m not a skater skater, but I love watching and I appreciate the art form and I’m amazed by what people are able to do on a board. My biggest question is how does the board not break? How does it handle these huge drops? Is it just a balance of equilibrium between the trucks/wheels and the weight of the human body? I’d really love to know the science behind it!
@fightmilk8613
@fightmilk8613 7 ай бұрын
You are correct it’s about weight distribution. The closer the feet are to being over the trucks, the less likely the board is to snap.

When you get older you look at gnarly stuff and fear starts to kick in because you know you're not going to be back in two weeks skating if you slam hard so you have to ask yourself (in the immortal words of Dade Murphy), "Is the juice still worth the squeeze?" For most people with real day jobs, its not.

Jaws' knees are wreeeeecked already, though. He's talked about it quite a bit if my memory is not failing me at the moment. Also, anything into transition is exponentially "easier" than anything into flat. So imagine how difficult some of those to flat must be. Edit: Also, don't forget that there aren't very many bails in this video. Dude didn't land all these first try. Some of them had a ton of bails.

Those stairs by the waterfront is here in Louisville at the great lawn. You have no idea how big that is until you are standing there in person. The video doesn't even do it justice. When I saw that on the thumbnail, I clicked on it thinking it was just click bait because "there's no fucking way someone jumped down that staircase." I ride BMX and wouldn't even dare doing that on my bike. How is that even possible!?
