Why do three of the four fastest men on the planet come from Jamaica? Is it the yams? Bananas? Rich soil? Or could it be something else?

In the UK over the last 30 years we have had numerous sprinters world class sprinters who if not born in the UK came to the UK at a very young age, among them Linford Christie, Dina Asha-Smith. Its the same in Canada where they is another Jamaican diaspora - who have produced Donovan Bailey and Atlee Mahorn among others. So its nothing to do with Jamaican soil, nor even the Boys and Girls Champs.

It’s got to do with west/central African genetics. Fast twitch muscles and anatomy, all inherited. Overwhelmingly men and women with this ancestry whether from u.s., Caribbean or Africa itself dominate the elite end of sprinting. Only a handful of non-black west African men have run under 10 seconds. Jamaica is also really into the sport so that along with a population more likely to have individuals with the basic inherited tools required to be elite, and this explains the results.

WHY CAN'T THEY ENDURE, RETAIN THAT SPEED FOR UP TO 400 METERS. THE SPEED STOPS AT 200 METERS?? SO IF SOMEONE WAS CHASING THEM, THEY WOULD BE CAUGHT REALLY EASY, AS OPPOSED TO A 400 METER RUNNER, THE PURSUER WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM TO CATCH UP. WHICH ONE IS THE REAL/BETTR ATHLETE? YOU DO THE MATH. The Jamaican doping system is second to none. Of the five fastest Jamaicans of all time, Bolt, Mullings, Nesta Carter, Blake and Powell, all except Bolt were caught doping.
@Samuel-xj4oj
@Samuel-xj4oj Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Bolt was also on drugs but he was protected. He was the golden boy of sprinting, the biggest name in athletics people loved his charisma and he was making people a ridiculous amount of money, so it’s not interest of the doping agencies to bust him. If they did their money supply will be cut and track and field will never recover look at what happened to cycling after the Lance Armstrong revelation He also beat the chemically enhanced record of Ben Johnson 9.79 in his WR 9.58. And out of the 30 fastest time he beat other drug abusers: Gatlin, Gay, Blake, Powell which is impossible. Im glad somebody knows what’s up. Bolt was an ordinary athlete and made unbelievable improvements in one year. He goes from a 10.03 to 9.69, and 19.9 to 19.3. Nothing changed in his training instead, he decided alongside with his coach is time to hop on the juice 💉. He also made these massive improvements because there was no testing done in Jamaica until 2017. This is why all these records started falling in Jamaica in the first place. Asafa broke the world record twice, then bolt comes breaking it

It has nothing to do with any of the myths put forward in this video. Jamaica, just like other sports powerhouses like China and Russia that pump out astonishing gymnasts one after the other, starts training potential sprinters from a very young age. It starts out with kids as young as 6 years when every primary school on the island has a "sports day". You're divided into "houses" (mostly named after colors), and for every year in primary school there's fierce racing competition between the houses. This is where the first racing potentials are recognized and encouraged. The real work starts when the kids then move on to high school and have to compete in Boys & Girls Champs (short for championships). This is equivalent to college football in the US, with the only difference that it's a fierce and merciless competition at the high school level. You start high school at about 12 or 13 in Jamaica, which continues to about the age of 18, and during that time the best sprinters are trained and drilled with military precision. The highlight of their training is the yearly Boys & Girls Champs which is broadcast nationally and followed with twice the enthusiasm Americans have for college football or basketball. It is as this stage that the older kids, aged 17 or 18, get introduced to the world as they embark on their first international competitions. At this tender age they're already far more advanced in their technique and training that their American and other international colleagues, who start their serious training at the college level. So sorry, it has nothing to do with magical yams or mythical genes. If other countries employed the same training regime, they'd also be getting the same results as Jamaica. Just as how Russia starts training their ballet dancers and gymnasts at the age of 6.
@dubiouswords7851

It has something to with genetics. Jamaica is making the most of its populations genetic gifts with the identification and training of elite sprinters as early as possible. Less gifted with quick twitch muscle fibre populations like say my south Asian people (Indian/Pakistani/Sri Lanka) don’t stand a chance even if they had the best training imaginable.
@CurtisCT
@CurtisCT 2 жыл бұрын
@@dubiouswords7851 I'm not so sure about that. The South African sprinter, Wayde van Niekerk, is a current world record holder, and I believe he's of South Asian descent. There are also a number of very promising Japanese and Chinese sprinters.
@dubiouswords7851
@dubiouswords7851 2 жыл бұрын
@@CurtisCT i am sure of it. That South African sprinter is a Cape Coloured, mixed race people from the western cape and has Xhosa and Bantu African genetics with probably nominal other ancestry. Japanese and Chinese are better suited to sprinting than any Indian type. The south Asian top 100 time is 10.16, which is way off from elite times. It’s inconceivable that genetics do not matter but of course it’s not all that matters: need motivation, training, etc. But the prerequisite for elite potential in sprinting is in your genes.
@CurtisCT
@CurtisCT 2 жыл бұрын
@@dubiouswords7851 I have serious doubts about such an unscientific theory. It's far more likely that South Asians do not excel at sprinting because of poor training and a lack of commitment and investment from the government.

@@CurtisCT physical training can only take you so far. Talent sometimes you are born with it. Not everyone can be a Messi or Ronaldo one is gifted the other worked hard for his. ALL those explanations except one have no baring on our sprinting success. Let me explain why we are so fast. Jamaicans are no faster than anyone anywhere else, we are just better at finding the great athletes. Wee ones at basic schools have a championship and the selection begins there. They then go on to primary schools where the schools all have intra house championships. The successful ones then go on to a national schools championship. High schools have the same system. The result is that we always find the very best that are available. We are the only country with this comprehensive a selection process and therein lies the secret to our success.

There was another video on the reasoning and I thing that video has a stronger point. As genetics, health, and environment can be huge factors, culture is a definitely the biggest factor. Why dont we see more black tennis players, it is because black people in the US are more culturally drawn to basketball and football. Listen to any hip hop song and the top sports mentioned is 1. Basketball, 2. Football, 3. Boxing. Coincidentally those are the sport with a large black participation. Jamaica's sport culture revolves around sprinting. Sprinting is bigger than soccer which is rare for a Caribbean country.

Jamaicans are fast because their food is cleaner as apposed to American poison food.. Their diet is vegetable and fruit heavy as apposed to the American meat heavy diet. Their muscles are carrying a lighter body mass than an over meat eaten body mass American. They don't have worry about digging through poison food trying to figure our if the labels are lieing to them or not while shopping either. Their home grown gardens are not being sprayed by chem trail vegetation contaminants either.

It's genetics, Jamaica was the last island of the Caribbeans where the slave boats landed so only the strongest survived the journey. Also, that mixed with local Arawak indians (high red blood cell count due to living at high altitude) mixed in with some British, Chinese and a few other ethnicities for a length of time has given them natural genetic strengths along with the natural body building foods which grow e.g. Yam, plantain, breadfruit, fish etc.. They are very well built for explosive speed. descent

Jamaica is a hilly country, and most Jamaican kids walk miles to school from a young age... And with youth on their side often run. No pressures, just fun. Early Diet rich in protien, carbs and yams...and natural... All add up to a strong muscle. development at a young age. These kids arent raised on processed foods and fast foods. Then there is the incubator that is High school Champs. Mini Olympics which took on a whole new vibe when it combined Boys and Girls champs. This coincided with more endormensts and professionalisation of Athletics, and Athletes encouraged to go for Dollars vs scholarships previously. Yes the West African Genes are stong, but that is in the whole Caribbean and Americas.... So is only a very small part of it.
