Fun fact, China was said more times in this episode than Trump said it in his whole campaign.
From Season 7 Episode 10: China - After reading an article about China growing as a global power, Michael (Steve Carell) decides China must be stopped before they take over the US. Everyone in the office complains about Dwight's (Rainn Wilson) building standards and Pam (Jenna Fischer) threatens to move Dunder Mifflin to a new building.

Anytime I have to explain why the Office is a fantastic show, this is the example I use. With shows like the Big Bang Theory or Friends, the writers' jokes just aren't that funny and they need to force it down our throats with the excessive paid laughter. With the Office, every sentence a character says has a joke hidden in there that only some people get, and if they don't, it's still a good story to watch and there are other jokes that people will definitely get.
@yevgeniyaleshchenko849
@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 Жыл бұрын
@@NoName-eq9md Actually (wink, wink), you don't NEED to explain anything to anyone. I imagine noone really asks you and just want to force your ''expert'' opinion down anyone's throat. You also don't have to bring down other shows to praise this one. Both Friends and TBBT have lots of great writing and funny jokes as well. (and Office has examples of bad writing). Also, Office is not the only show with great writing. Finally, liking/understanding Office does NOT make you special or a ''chosen'' one. MANY people get Office, relax and sit down, it's not about you (even though your last sentence kind gave it away that you DO think it's all about you and your ego).

Well to you Americans that might be a warning, but who cares? Life isn’t all about money, I know you celebrate capitalism over anything, but just settle with who you are and continuously try on improving life standards in your own country In my mind the US‘s biggest mistake was to rest on its belief to be the best country in the world (which I find absolutely ridiculous by the way and any form of Patriotism should not be existing anymore today since we’ve evolved and realized we only have the world and each and everyone is from the world, and if they are living in worse conditions than we are - don’t say we the greatest, make it happen for everyone and never settle) The US settled with its belief to be the best once and forever, whilst living conditions have improved massively in Europe, the tendency in America went down. And that is mostly because Communism sounds like hell to most Americans, and that is the big difference between Europe’s development and Americas. The influence Europe has received from both sides, east and west formed it into kind of a mixture system of the two systems (communism-capitalism). Whilst we have many capitalist structures, the government still owns the most important things, or at least pays for them. They do that by higher taxes… no wonder in most parts of Europe almost any surgery and medical treatment is free… in America you get flown in by a helicopter after a ski accident, what’s your bill, like a hundred grand (it’s probably cheaper to simply die)… in Austria, Sweden, Germany, the government will pay everything for you, from rescue to medical treatment. Also education fully free from grade 1 to your Masters degree in university Everyone is putting their money in the big pond and it is taken by those needed, cuz in the end you might have given away more money to the government than you actually get back in value (maybe you don’t get sick for a good 60 years of your life), but it doesn’t matter cuz we know with all our money we are saving thousands of lives everyday and that is something only a welfare/social state can provide and therefore I’m glad to be grown up in Europe All in all, america shouldn’t be too afraid of some communist structures and it would massively bump up their living standards, since poor people can’t even get out of their cycle by studying hard, cuz you’ve gotta pay for everything. Also the US might consider not to throw all their tax money into the military, because we all want peace and for that we need trust, why stock up, when there is no threat

This does certainly feel like an area of discussion you would never see on much of US shows these days. Even back in December 2010(I believe close to when this episode was aired) calling China agrarian is misleading. China was featured in Newsweek in this episode and in reality, China was booming in their industry at the time. The points Michael Scott was making about them making all our goods was backing up his statement that they are growing and the world is starting to grow more dependent on them over the US. What’s the problem? Well, it depends on how invested you are to these sort of things, but in general, it’s best for the country you live in to be at or near the top and while competing isn’t inherently bad, who wants to lose when it comes to being recognized as the world’s country to look to for stability?

I love how in the same video Oscar says China is used as a boogeyman, you have people treating freaking TikTok like it's bigger than say, Google, Meta, Microsoft and the CIA put together.
@byzantineJesusLov3R

@@Gabo2oo Notice how you have to put Google, Meta, Microsoft, and the CIA together in order to make a comparison with TikTok? It's almost as if you've proven by yourself how much power TikTok truly has. The fact of the matter is, it's become the most downloaded app, and from it's inception as grown almost exponentially. To suggest otherwise would be simply to choose ignorance.

China plans and subsidizes cities because they are efficient places to live, promoting an active lifestyle and reducing per capita greenhouse gas emissions. America plans and subsidizes suburbs (at the expense of cities) because they allow people to live out their fantasies of having a detached home and 2 cars to drive everywhere, no matter how destructive that lifestyle is.

@@ranelgallardo7031 If you look at Google Maps and select any Chinese citiy, you will see that it is very large. Actually what goverment considers cities varies from country to country. Comparing Chinese and USA cities, a chinese city consits not just the city but also the suburbs and area beyond that. Its like considering LA metropolitan area as a whole citiy while on paper the city is smaller in size.
