Mate your are a diamond. Having checked out by now god knows how many videos on self-cutting or more specifically fading. Yours has been the best because you have used the "Heband" as you colloquially call it. I am grateful because I am fully aware that as a professional barber your self would never use such an item when doing your own self-cut. As someone who is unfortunately in my sixties and totally reliant on a low disability payment now, I can not continue to pay currently a certain people £25 for such a cut, yes a pony here in South London, because being ex-military, as far as I'm concerned it is a good professional clean back & side, as our American cousins refer to it as "Crispy". This current cost is just too much especially when I know they are not even paying tax for half an hour's work. Then because of this high cost, what happens, I can't afford to get a haircut & months later ending up looking like a paraffin lamp, no disrespect as I've lived on London streets, but you get my meaning I hope. Hair all over the place totally destroys your own confidence. I eventually go there paying a pony which breaks my bank, not everyone is a rich tory . Anyway, I digress cheers have subbed & will be checking out your other videos on self cutting.

Hey I totally respect anyone who takes the time to learn new skills and can do things for themselves. And also no idea how anyone affords to live in London. Must cost a fortune across the board.

I use a similar technique but I use thin head bands with a depth of just 5 mm. When I've done my first cut, I then position the second head band around the head copying the same curved line as the first, I have it just sitting above with about a 2 mm gap all the way around making sure that it isn't over lapping the first band. I then pull the first band down so it is dangling around the neck area & I'm ready to do my next cut, then the same with the third, fourth, fifth until eventually I run out of space, I then do a manual cut around with a grade 1.5, with a grade 6 on top leaving the fringe over an inch long, the end result is a kind of military hair cut look which I prefer. Great video.

Brilliant. Fantastic stuff & channel! Quick question: You were on the #2 blade, and at 13:57 you switched blades. Was this simply a swap out for better #2 or (like the quick and swift pro you are) did you notice a missed spot and switch go back to a #1 to blend more? Not trying to nitpick too much but love your stuff. Just want to best understand your teachings. BTW … You should teach @ barber/Cut-hair-like-a-pro school. I bought a fading culture 2.0 like a clipper that gives a fade with one swipe. Well I'm afraid to do it because I might come out crooked. So I looked on eBay or Amazon on this silicon head band. I was thinking about using that as my guide just presses against the head band. Just follow it. Since I think it is thick I won't go over it. Plus that a cool idea using a camera to see it from the back end. Since looking at a mirror is very tricky on the eyes

@@theoneminutebarber Oh, yes that is totally clear. But I’m asking about this trigger on the haircut machine if it should be closed or open or in the middle when you are on the specific clipper size:)
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber 2 жыл бұрын
If it is closed it will be the exact length of the clipper guard. If it is open it will add 1.5mm to the length of the guard. This is helpful for graduating up in to longer hair. In the middle you get a smaller adjustment. I normally use the middle position if a line forms between the open and closed position to see if I can rub it out.

Can I do the hair cut with an ordinary clipper - that I can go up and down 1, 2, 3, 4, 5? (No 0.5 and 1.5)? Does it HAVE to be a Wahl? + How long does a self hair cut take for a non experienced self cutter would you estimate? Hair bad... I tried a resistant band, I cut and tried fitting over my head. One more quick question: About how much (distance wise) are you moving that Hband up each time you blend/pass would you guesstimate? I bet it’s not exact science, and perhaps matter of taste, or perhaps even where you want the fade to start? To follow … Where is the best/ideal spot to start the cut, ie the “ideal” spot to place the band’s line on back of head? (I suppose this could also depend on how high you want the fade?) Or in general looks wise, is this ideal line placement roughly the same for all? Say … roughly X inches from hairline for most ? Lastly, if above is true, does this “ideal” starting line change if you’re dealing with “longer” haircut/style goal yet still want the slick and pro fade/blend showcased here. If, for instance, you want a #2/3 guard length as starting base, but want to fade up into maybe #3/4 guard length, how does this style, if at all, change the distance you move up the Hband each time, and how does this impact guard changes frequency. What’s this process like? I suppose the eye test tells you alot, but any tips/guides for the “longer” hair scenario? Sorry, I know this is a lot to muddle through. No hard feelings if can’t reply directly here. You’ve just got me so dang fired up now! As someone who’s been cutting my own hair for awhile now, I struggle with back side still. Maybe next video is the same fade guide but with #2/3 length faded into #3/4?! 😊😊😊 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Love your work. Keep up the channel. Can see big things for you. Also, where again do I find the link to your academy? Love to check it out!
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber Жыл бұрын
I think it’s going to be a different decision for every person depending on style I think the longer that you want the top then the lower you need to start. However with a #2 or above I wouldn’t use the he band as it would flatten the next section too much and become difficult to blend at that length

Sorry! Yet another question for you. When I got to my barbers I have had a number 3 cut in the past. Does this mean that number 3 is the smallest number used and then he goes up longer towards the top of the hair or is it the other way round? I don't believe I've ever had my hair too short so I'm guessing the former but just wanted to check before I go and make myself bald!! 😂 Thanks.

A number three will be the shortest and that is most likely the length you have on the sides.

Good question. You can loosen the bottom blade and set it ever so slightly forward then re tighten it. This might give a better range with the half blade. And knock out the line.

Hi thank you for this video. I have a question this might sound a little strange but lets say you use the fading band but you dont knock out the fade lines so you have a few lines at the back of your head and just leave it. I know it wouldnt look too good for a couple of months but would it eventually naturally blend in later down the line ? Or would it still be noticeable say 6_ 8 months later? Forgive me if that doesnt make much sense LOL. I have a fade band and can never get rid of the lines for some reason. 😂
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber 6 ай бұрын
That’s a totally acceptable question. I reckon any lines that are left would disappear within a couple of weeks. Mistakes on fades are mostly noticeable because of the skin colour. But the more stubble that comes in the less the fade is visible

I cut my hair twice a month before the pandemic at $12 a cut. Now that barbers are charging $25-$35 despite knowing the pandemic is over I am cutting my hair every 3 months now. Barbers are losing business and I am saving money. Now I am learning to cut my hair myself to save time and even more money.

Honestly anyone who tries this has lost the plot. The best method is get to a decent barbershop, sit in the chair, enjoy getting your haircut and a decent chat. Stand up, reach into your pocket, take out cash, hand it to the barber and tell him to keep the change. Walk out and feel like a man.

Wouldn't it be easier slipping a rubber strap over your head, marking the different lines with a water-soluble pen, then start working with the clipper? No hooking into the band, no risk of cutting into the band and sending it flying into orbit.
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's also another way to do it. I think the key is to just get a good straight line each time when you move up.

@@theoneminutebarber - Sure, Michael. :) Plus fiddling with the mirrors - and plus taking care not to hook into or under the Heband. To be honest: I wouldn't dare. :D A few months ago I bravely tried a self-fade - and failed big time, didn't dare to leave the house until my hairdresser secretly sneaked in in the dark and saved me. :D Reason indeed was not having a visual line for guiding while working with the mirrors - you always see the back of your head from the sides, not directly from behind. So it looks okay from one side - but if you turn, it doesn't match with the other side. So you go higher and higher and higher ... Thus I guess your approach with the Heband is a real good idea. I'll try the slightly different approach with a rubber band and a pen - as soon as I recover my balls. :D
