Mk1 225 coupé is my daily. I did originally look at 3.2’s but couldn’t quite justify daily running coat at the time but I had to have the twin pipes. I love how the little TT drives, you feel involved with it, which for me is important because I just enjoy driving. I find the newer the car the more muted it feels and the more detached you feel from it. TT does everything I need it to and looks damn good doing it. Good video dude 🤘🏻

Can't argue with that, exactly how i feel. If you dont want a car that you have to fettle with, does what it should and has comfort then a mk2 is the one, for that iconic styling and driver input required then mk1 all day

The mk 1 always takes my eye when I see one, just a beautiful little thing. Although I have a mk2 now I feel it looks a little bloated around the rear wings area, likes its gained a bit of middle aged spread. Its hard to describe as the mk2 is a beauty but certain angles at certain times it looks a little heavy. Have used both as a daily, so my answer is either!

Yeah my 225 has become a weekender, only because I need the space that my other car offers. That said, I love nothing more than hopping in my TT after a couple of weeks driving my dad wagon and taking it for a well deserved blast, it makes me appreciate it that little bit more. Great vid!

I purchased last year a 2008 Mk2 VR6 for my wife with only 72k miles on the clock. She absolutely loves it. She's a careful driver and only gives it a kick when I'm out listening to that gorgeous sound. I long dreamt about buying a VW Golf R32 - but never got around to it. Now I can only listen in on my wife's…

Prefacing my comments with the fact I've never owned a TT, I've been very tempted by a MkII 3.2. Aesthetically, I like the proportions of the MkII, slightly stretched and less bulbous c/w the MkI. I've owned several turbo charged cars and would welcome the more linear power delivery of a larger displacement n/a engine, even if that means it lacks a certain amount of "throw you back in the seat" factor. The timing chain and bigger displacement also suggests longevity.. One thing about the TT's reputation, (which I find hard to understand) is that they are thought by some reviewers, to "lack the credentials of a true sports car because they're designed on the platform of the Golf ".. I always thought that the Golf was considered a fairly manoeuvrable, taught sort of chassis, so why should the TT be anything less? Finally, regarding prices - I wish UK pricing translated to the same equivalent in the USA!! Values are at least double, heading towards triple, over here. The VR6 engined example I've had my eye on, is $20k but has a laundry list of items that need attention, so I've decided to walk away.

I have a Manual 2011 Mk2 TDI Quattro as my daily. It is an amazing car. Plenty of torque and excitement. Comfortable even for the 4 yo. In the back. Super economical ( 1300km per tank - on a good day). Swapped out the stereo and added a new head unit with GPS and CarPlay and added an after market console with cubby bin and matching padded leather armrest and done a stage one tune with a bit of tweaking on other stuff. Made the world of difference. Bang for your buck, it is simply an amazing car. Real head turner, still scary fast and probably cheaper to buy than a boring Toyota Corolla. I am still deeply in love with this car. It fulfils my every pleasure in life every time I get in it.

Sounds like you've bought the perfect car for yourself, if you are doing lots of miles then of course the diesel is a no-brainer and a map always make such a difference. I would be tempted to get one if I was going to get Mark2 as it covers all bases that's for sure

Great vid as always Dom 👌 I made the switch earlier this year from the mk1 225 to the mk2 TTRS for my 40 mile daily commute. I think you've nailed all the right points, but another thing I would add to the mk2 argument is - the brakes. As the single pot calipers on the 225s are an absolute joke! So far I have also managed to keep my mk1 because it's still a great drive, especially if you've gone down the handling upgrade/stage 2 route.
@TheParrottBros

the brakes on a 225 are good. This famous german show only made positive comments about them: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fsemepOFuKe8Zmw.html&ab_channel=SiRRoW. But this requires the calipers, lines, discs and pads to be OEM quality, which is not the case most of the time. In fact in the very same show test results of the 1M Leon Cupra R's Brembos were worse

As my daily I’d still have my MK1. I know the MK2 (early ones) have cambelt not chains which is a better option. But I’d say a MK1 is way cheaper to maintain and also easier to work on. MK2 have way too much electronics involved in everything, they suffer with wiring issues

I had a 2013 TT 2.0TFSI Quattro Roadster. I had it for 8 years and covered 122.000km. I loved it! The Bose sound system was great. It did have a timing chain issue at around 55.000km, thankfully was taken care of by Audi as it would have been a massive bill so be aware of timing issues! Slight issue with the convertible top when put down, it wouldn’t register that the roof operation was complete. The wet clutch S-Tronic gearbox would sometimes be a bit hesitant but no issues really. Other than that, the car was really a lot of fun! I sold it and replaced it with a Mercedes E400 Coupe. Very different car but no regrets. The comfort is unbelievable in comparison

I’ve had an mk1 for almost 8 years. I just hit 110,000 miles. Lots of trim pieces are just now, all at one time, snapping, breaking, etc. The ebrake silver release/thumb button popped and flew off. My driver side visor clip broke. My leather seat on driver side is becoming shot. Knob to move side mirrors broke off. Window regulator cord tangled with itself and broke. So my driver window wasn’t staying up. My driver side lock cylinder spins in place all the way around. Both keys have snapped where it meets the black fob. Interior alarm sensors stopped working, I realize that’s something I can reset, just haven’t. All 4 trunk lid and hood struts have failed. Driver side mirror jiggles in place. Both little back seat storage compartment lids don’t stay shut. The cover for the jack kit has a broken clip, so doesn’t stay in place. All really small menial tasks, just all at once breaking though, makes it rather annoying. Inner drive side door handle bracket snapped so handle fell off. Fobs have stopped working and now out of nowhere the passenger window rolls down completely if I unlock the car. Front suspensions got something going on, or will need to replace some parts soon. As far as actual car stuff goes… my rear caliper froze, no big deal, just replaced. But that’s typical maintenance and really, should’ve been a preventative care thing on my part. Coolant has started leaking. Belly pan clips were toast a long time ago, every place I’ve taken it to apparently has literally zip tied the thing on each time it’s been seen. I recently read all of my paperwork & found it on a ton of diff invoice notes, haha. It’s all repairable stuff, but am def thinking it’s just the age of all the plastics and things regarding the interior. It’s a 2000. I’ve loved the shit out of my TT. But I’d trade it in a second for an mk2. And all that being said, it’s been a really fantastic car up until now. Never has given me any issues. Love driving it. Love how it’s handled. Loved the overall look. Just is becoming a little more outdated than I’d like, and I think maybe is time to retire, as much as I do still love it.

I have owned both a mk1 3.2 DSG coupe and a mk2 2.5 RS manual coupe. I loved the original TT interior and exterior design, and it was great. My mk2 RS is just a very different car and dynamically can’t be compared. Mine has the speed restrictor increase to 174mph, and it will hit that with ease and be very stable at the same time. The mk1 3.2 felt light over 80 mph and never inspired confidence when pushing on. Love them both for different reasons, but my mk2 RS is a keeper. As a daily, all weather cross country weapon, with relative practicality that can top 40mpg on a run, I struggle to think of anything new I’d replace it with. It also retains a layer of the mk1s analogue feel that is lost in newer cars and dare I say it, the mk3.

interesting review, I wouldn't say a Mk2 is dull, well apart from that DSG which is perhaps why it feels dull, it's supposed to be a sports car, so why would anyone have an auto, doesn't make sense to me tbh, anyway regardless of that, having owned a 2003 black/black mk1 225 quattro for a bit it was a lovely car, all was fine until the clutch slave blew without warning I drove it in the morning it was fine, parked it went to drive it in the afternoon and no clutch that was at 89,000 while I was living abroad, and it cost me 3,200 euros to get it fixed at an Audi garage, because all the local garages were too scared to touch it, probably because they only ever worked on 40 year old Fiat Pandas, tbh, now I have owned a Mk2 TDI Quattro 6-sp since 2019, mainly a TDI because the road tax is a 1/3 of my previous mk1 and it'll do 40+ mpg even while giving it a bit of stick down the lanes, not 28mpg my mk1 was doing, the TDI is a pretty torquey beast, especially in 3rd for overtaking slower traffic... yeah it only has 170bhp-ish, but goes well enough, especially on the pot hole infested tarmac we call roads in the UK nowadays, anyway..... Loved my mk1 it was a proper flying machine, saw 145mph (not kph) on a German Autobahn, it was still pulling, I was a bit unsure on the looks of the mk2 when it first arrived on the scene, then I drove one, and my opinion was changed, it's a great car, comfortable, goes round corners nicely, grips like some brown stuff to a furry blanket on wet roads, and doesn't cost me second mortgage while doing it, this car is staying with me for the foreseeable, and that's saying something from a bloke who never keeps cars longer than about 18-24 months normally, only issues I've had with my mk2 is the usual real light earth fault which I fixed with an extra earth line to the earth points in the boot, and a dribble of water coming in the passenger door occasionally which I still haven't managed to fix in spite of the door drain holes being clear.. servicing wise it cost me £250 for a minor and MOT last month, and a major with cambelt/water pump/haldex was almost £1000 2 years ago, and shes done a genuine 74,900-odd with a FSH, paintwork needs some love though, as some POS scumbag keyed it few months ago.. 😡 Overall I'd 💯 percent recommend a mk2 TT I think imho it is a slightly nicer driving experience than my mk1 if I'm being honest, and certainly much nicer than the BMW I went to buy when I bought my mk2 TT 😂

I'll start with this.....I hate most Audi's! In my previous job we had A3's and 4's as company cars and I couldn't understand the attraction, they were just dull, over-priced cars. I had a BMW 325i convertible (hard top) as my own car but then moved jobs and wanted something more economical to drive as well as saving the BMW's low mileage to keep it low as it's a really nice example. I came across a TT diesel 2009 with just under 100k on the clock which I got for £4700. I was hooked straight away with the handling and although it is only 170bhp it's a hell of a lot of fun to drive, especially along twisty B roads! So that got my mind going and I'm yet to get in a mk1 TT but I'm searching for a decent 3.2 that isn't silly money and have it as a weekend car but also for doing some driving holidays across Europe which we had planned to do in the BMW before Covid reared it's ugly head! If anyone has any advice or info on buying a Mk1 3.2 I'm all ears, or if you know someone looking to sell now or in the near future feel free to give me a shout. I'm a petrolhead but TT's are a new entity to me! I've watched several Parrott Bro's video's and they're a good source of knowledge, you obviously know your TT's well and have enough of them!
