I’m thankful this game exists for a very specific reason. I’ve been playing twilight struggle online for years and I have the deck memorized. I recently found an in person gaming partner to play historical games but TS is off the table cause he’s never played and it would obviously be completely unfair and not fun for him. Now we can go into this game both fresh with a nice even playing field and learn the nuances together!

It's been quite some time since I had this on the table, but your coverage of the game persuades me to revisit it soon. I think you made a key point that it was a good game in part because it did manage to successfully walk the fine line between being a reskin versus an entirely new experience. That TS feel is definitely there, but it really stands on its own; unmistakably a close relative, though not the identical twin of TS. Nice review.

I'm very pleased you cover this game, i'm from Poland. It's funny that i was published here long ago without success. I bought it for equivalent of 5 bucks.

Nice. I play that Scorpions song every time I play Wir Sind Das Volk.

Glad you guys finally got ahold of this one. I of course hated it, but that's me. (Actually I'd be willing to give it another shot.)

Why?
@ardwulfslair
@ardwulfslair 2 жыл бұрын
@@varovaro1967 Why did I dislike it? It didn't immerse me in its theme and just felt like number-pushing. I have this same issue with Twilight Struggle sometimes as well, but I think in TS the Cold War is more evocatively portrayed.

So what was the distinction you referred to involving Eastern Europe? My buddy and I are gearing up to play this one and I feel that’s something we’ll get confused by as well.

I held off on getting this one because I thought it would be too much like Twilight Struggle, but ultimately caved after a few years when it popped back up. I feel that they've mixed up enough new things into the mix that it gives a considerably different feel for me.

Twilight Struggle 1960 or 1989 Which is your favorite?

Ooooh that is a hard one. I really like TS because I like the theme. But this 1989, after a few more plays, might kick it out of the spot. I also love 1960 no doubt though.

How does 1989 compare to 13 days, if they're both streamlined versions of twilight struggle?
@ThePlayersAid
@ThePlayersAid 2 жыл бұрын
1989 is not a streamlined version of TS. It's more of a sister game. Still takes 3 hours and good chunk of brain power. 13 days is a TS style game condensed into 40 mins. Very small hands of cards and only 4 rounds if I remember correctly.

@@ThePlayersAid I'm getting 13 days and Twilight struggle. I'm a fan of 1960 and the designers integration of history into the games.

I received a couple e-mails in 09 or 2010 from people that saw a warehouse with thousands of copies of the print and play version of the game, before it was picked up by GMT. So, I think it is there.
