Made in 0CC-FamiTracker
Also this took like 10 hours to upload so that's cool

This cover provides one of the best comparisons of the SID and 2A03. The chip designers had to make trade offs like (1) how many channels of polyphony can we do, or (2) how flexible can we make each channel. 2A03 did more channels but with fixed capabilities. SID gave more options on each channel but limited to 3 channels. Comparing the Jeroen Tel original to this cover shows all the differences in these tradeoffs. Great job on this cover - it wouldn’t be such a strong case study of 1980s sound chips without the level of detail put into this work. At the end of the day, you just can’t get away from that pulse wave sound on the NES. C64 wins on the tonal and timbral variety despite having to juggle the settings on the limited sound channels. They’re both good. They are the top two chips of the 8 bit era without a doubt.

The samples are way less muffled than the C64 ones. This is because the noise channel is giving the drums more power. C64 uses 4-bit samples, while the NES uses 1-bit samples.

This is the craziest thing that I ever seen made with the NES DPCM. This makes me to think if it can fit on an NES cartridge. Maybe in one of the Master System, but I doubt very much that this could been fit on a NES cartridge. Anyway, this is an impressive work! If you can did this, could you make an Stormlord cover? Only time will tell...

How on earth did you get the PWM effects on the squares at 3:06, is there just some fine pitch modification going on which isn't very visible on the waveform or is it just something with the NES? I just have never heard something like that before without like changing the duty cycle as other parts in the song did.

The two pulse waves are probably slightly out of tune with each other, which is what they actually try to approximate on one channel when ramping the pulse width.
