@@ThePremierePro Hey Paul. Here I am, four months later, revisiting your video because once again, I'm struggling with audio in Multicam. Can you help me? Specifically, I conducted a three camera interview with three people--the interviewer was on one camera in stereo (his voice was on both channels) and the two women he was interviewing were being captured on another camera--one was in the left channel, one was in the right. (The third camera was a wide shot--I didn't use the edit, except to sync the cameras in Multicam.) Anyway, I thought I was doing the right thing by trying to modify the audio on the camera with the two women by creating two mono tracks (instead of left and right), but when I put them into multicam, the women are in left and right speakers separately and I can't used the "Fill Right with Left" and "Fill Left with Right" option to fix it. What's weirder, is that they're IS audio coming out of the opposite channel for each woman, but it's a significantly lower volume (not equal on both channels, which would make them mono). I'm probably not explaining this well, but I have the entire hour interviewed and I'm hoping I don't have to start over to fix this. Any ideas? Or am I on my own on this one? Sorry for the long message.

Wow one of the best no nonsense videos I've come across on the subject. Thank you! QQ for you. In the common mistakes section you mentioned a glitch of having audio waveforms not render in a multicam clip. Do know specifically what causes that? Curious as previous method I used was constantly causing that. That being said, the method was for me to make one multicam clip and then duplicate it and shell it out for other sequences.
@ThePremierePro
@ThePremierePro 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No waveforms means that some kind of mixdown is happening inside the multicam audio tracks, e.g. mono tracks mixing down into a stereo master, or an effect added to a clip or track. I have another video coming out soon that shows the right way to create multicam sequences manually without using Clip > Create Multicam.

Thanks Albert, great question - for this, you can create a new sequence with Camera 3, Audio 1 and Audio 2, and then select this sequence as the 3rd camera when you're creating your multicamera sequence. A simpler solution might be to use the 'Camera 1' sync option, so that Audio 1 and Audio 2 are always enabled, and you just switch between Camera 1, 2 and 3.

Great video - thank you very much. Quick question. If You use the "automatic" and "all cameras" option, is there an easy was to control the audio selected in the resulting sequence? @ThePremierePro

Great question! Of course, you can just delete the tracks you don't want on the timeline, or mute them (this is best if you're sending your sequence to Pro Tools for mixing). But if you want more control over the number of tracks + which channels to use, select the Multicam sequence (either in the timeline or your Project panel) and choose Clip > Modify > Audio Channels. Note: you can only change the number of tracks before you add it to the timeline.

WoW! Thanks! I wish I knew this before I started editing. Maybe one question remains: how can one replace the audio? Let's say there's a new audio file, or an new mixdown, how can the audio in the multicamera source "container" be replaced so it reflects up to the sequence with the editing? The problem is that I forgot to make the audio track stereo. Now when I do that in the project window, it does not update the placed track. Replacing it in the multicam source also doesn't replace it in the sequence...
@ThePremierePro

Thanks! Just to confirm - your multicam source was initially mono and you need to update it to stereo?
@alexfurer
@alexfurer Жыл бұрын
@@ThePremierePro yes. It's coming from a boom mic but is mono. I had to keep going, so I restarted editing the first of the six videos and re-created all the multicam setup. What I did before re-creating them is to change the audio in the project window to stereo. At the beginning I was hoping that this would actually update the clip in the sequence. To be honest, I don't understand why clips like this are not like pre-composed tracks in AfterEffects... In those, when you swap footage, as long as you replace with the same length, the main composition will show those changes. Or am I missing something? Because when I replaced the mono audio in the multicam source clip with the stereo one form the bin, it remained mono in the sequence where I make the cuts.
@ThePremierePro
@ThePremierePro Жыл бұрын
@@alexfurer Content changes will ripple through like precomps, but the audio channel format won't. You need to make sure 1) inside the multicam clip, the stereo clip is on a stereo track 2) the multicam mix track is outputting stereo pairs (you can't mix and match stereo and mono mixes with multicam sequences, it has to be one or the other) and 3) the clip audio channel format of the sequence is outputting stereo pairs (you can check this by selecting the multicam in the Project panel and pressing Shift+G). Since you've already started editing, you'll need to manually replace these in the timeline (i.e. select each instance multicam clip, press F to load it in the source monitor and then peroid (.) to overwrite the clip in the timeline with the new audio channels).
@alexfurer

@@ThePremierePro Thank you very much! Really appreciate your feedback! Premiere is not my main application I work with, so this is very helpful. While we're at it, would you know, or know of a video that explains how to edit audio in Audition of a multicam setup? Would that work if I edit the source track in Audition and then use the same F and Period trick? All I saw so far was to render the video, edit the audio, then replace the audio in the timeline manually. Which is a no-go when I have dozens of cuts.
@ThePremierePro
@ThePremierePro Жыл бұрын
@@alexfurer So long as the audio channel format doesn't change between Premiere and Audition, select the audio inside the multicam clip and choose Edit > Edit Clip in Audition. This will replace the original clip with a new file with "_Extracted" added to the filename so you can make destructive edits in the Audition Waveform editor. If you need to rollback to the original media, just right-click the clip in Premiere and choose Restore Unrendered.

Hey thanks for this video! I wonder if you can help me. I'm pretty sure there is a simple answer to this but someone else has sync'd the multi clips together with separate audio. So I don't know if that has complicated things. I have two tracks of audio on the multiclip. Sometime I want to change the mix track for a lapel mic for example. The way I've been trying is to disable the Multiclip (there i find 16 tracks of audio all muted and channel 1 and 2 are not muted) which Is what I believe is what the multiclip it's using. If i want the tracks on A3 and A4 i swap them round so they are now on A1 and A2 but when I go back to the multiclip in the timeline and enable it only A1 is there and A2 is blank? Anyidea? Thank you!
@ThePremierePro
@ThePremierePro 2 жыл бұрын
When a track is blank, it's usually a sign that Premiere needs to render before it can display waveforms. This can be caused by things like audio effects, mismatches between the audio clip and the track format or an edit inside the multicam sequence that requires processing. I would recommend keeping the audio inside the multicam sequence as it is, but rearranging those tracks in your edit timeline (or even better, rearrange them in the Project Panel using Clip > Modify > Audio Channels).

Why is my "Create multicam camera source sequence" greyed out? Any idea?

Make sure your project window is active and you've selected multiple clips (one of them must have a video track).

Did you create your multicam sequence manually or using Clip > Create Multicam Source Sequence?

@@ThePremierePro select the footage, right click, create multicam source sequence. Also, Ive been having another issue, not sure if its a bug or sth im doing wrong:when i pass through a sequence again to modify the cuts it doesnt overwrite well, some cuts are still there, the camera changes but the physical cut on the clip doesnt go away, so its a bit confusing sometimes. Im new to this multicam workflow so it might just be it. Thanks a lot!

If you select all the clips in your sequence that used the multicam clips, then right click on one of them... go to Multi-cam...Enable. That's it! All you clips should now show the waveforms. It worked perfectly for me yesterday. Too many secrets to keep track of in Premiere, but so many of them are a Right-Click away.

Is There Any Premiere Experienced User that could help me out if a problem that I couldn't find the solution anywhere? It doesn't seem to be a bug, but is definitely a super weird behavior. The problem is Shown in this very short 3 min video: Insert Project Sequence in Another Sequence Project Timeline - Adobe Premiere - Help - Problem kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y59yh8J8uL3Kd4k.html Any help would be extremely appreciated

It sounds like your sequences have In/Out settings that get applied when you use the Insert/Overwrite commands. To fix this, select all your sequences in the Project panel and choose Markers > Clear In & Out.

@@ThePremierePro Thanks for the help, this problem drove me crazy for a While, so far I've been just dragging a dropping the sequence to the timeline of the assembled parts project, or even other ways to deal with it. But I love to find ways to do things more productively, the with less clicks at the mouse. I checked what you said, and all my projects are cleared of in and out, I even have a shortcut for "Clean In and Out" But if I drop the sequence project in the timeline using the keyboard shortcut I still get the same result as shown at the video: Insert Project Sequence in Another Sequence Project Timeline - Adobe Premiere - Help - Problem kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y59yh8J8uL3Kd4k.html Wich doesn't even make sense, why premiere would set in the end of the sequence that giant black hashed video excess. with no audio and no video. So far I've been working that around. Thanks for the help Cheers.
