The Democrats need to take lessons from U.S. Representative Katie Porter. Watch some her videos. She's prepared, doesn't pontificate, asks the right hard questions, and puts the powerful who are expecting fluff questions on the spot. She doesn't make the headlines like a lot of representatives because she's doing her job.

I agree the Democratic Party should take lessons from Porter. But the Democratic leadership, and the Party's consultants, will be very reluctant to have her run in 2024. The excuse they'd likely go with is she's not experienced enough, which is code for being too tenacious and progressive on policy. This is unfortunate, because I think she'd have among the best chances in 2024 of any Democrat in Washington today. Warren and AOC have far more name recognition, but fairly or unfairly, they've been tied to "wokeism", which could be an issue in winning enough independents. Porter would have a head start in that department, and that's relevant when the go-to talking point for Republican candidates is woke culture. I remain cynical that Biden runs again and easily wins the primary in 2024.

The DOD doesn't seem to be under Biden's control... Wouldn't we be boots-on-the-ground in Ukraine if it was? It's also interesting that Flynn's brother's promotion to Commander of US Army Pacific wasn't waylayed by Biden, and that Ezra Cohen Watnick still chairs the PIDB.

I think Jon is exactly right in that the question is why did the crowd go to the Capitol. Was that Trump's "hail-Mary"? Here's a possible bombshell I see: Trump did indeed want to go to the Capitol to be with his supporters. So of course he was going to talk to them. Is there a speech out there, like, written down? Now that would be fascinating.
@ObsessiveSting
@ObsessiveSting 2 жыл бұрын
Considering how many blank page props Trump used and how seemingly off the cuff his speeches seemed, I doubt it. Besides the rally did that enough and likely the multiple speakers were there to spread the message and prevent one person taking all the blame for riling up the crowd. If there is a speech for that moment then it is a long shot.

Knowing people in the “Patriot Group” culture, I was not surprised in the least when my wife told me that that capitol was breeched. The the aspirations to violence have been there since the the muller report, and have become more extreme since 2017. Anyone with an eye on those groups would see that violence was inevitable as soon as Trump lost. I had been telling any one of my conservative friends that would talk with politics with me exactly what was happening before the election (the fake slate of electors plot was cooked up months in advance of the election), exactly what was going to happen during the election (there was going to be a blue shift because in person votes are counted first) And what was going to happen after: Trump would deny the election, try to overturn it, and right wing “patriot” groups would engage in terrorist activity. It all happened exactly like I said and my friends continued to buy the lies hook, line, and sinker.

There have been a number of groups over the years to even include the rioters who stormed the Department of the Interior Building in 2021, The Weather Underground, and oddly enough Stephen Colbert's comedy troupe that wanted to harass members of congress for laughs. Violence at the capital is not something any group can take as their invented MO. It is all disgusting and it should be treated the same way whether you like that group's ideology or not.

One of the greatest virtues Jon Stewart has and that made him a more viable source of news then these Juggernaut news media companies was his ability to look through all the BS, take something that might be convoluted, and simplify it and then present it to the audience in a way that we can understand. I don't think anybody gives him enough credit. And to continue to have the compassion and empathy for working people despite having become wealthy and having become renowned, it's rare among the people who have this much power.

TheHunterofWarriors, I would like to propose something that aligns with your post. Jon is BRILLIANT! As Jon was explaining the 'end game', of how the Establishment HATES Orange Anus 45, and they want to replace him with Ron Desantis, I had an epiphany. Think about this.... There is a deal. A deal has been struck between Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Kevin McCarthy, Chuck Schumer, and Mitch McConnell. The deal is the Democratic party gets to take a free run at taking down Orange Anus 45. Think about it. It's a win-win deal for both political parties. Democrats get to make their base voters THRILLED, while the Rethug Criminal Cartel gets to blame Democrats for taking down Orange Anus 45. The Redhat Cult will NOT be angry with the Rethug Criminal Cartel. Which perfectly segues to the Rethug Criminal Cartel ushering in Ron Desantis to "save the day", and to be the shiny new object for the 2024 Presidential election. If Orange Anus 45 is in prison, he cannot run for re-election. Deal of the millennium.

Putting the most cunning of their political creatures front and center in the "show of the century", Liz Cheney. I am not saying Democrats came up with the plan to rid the Rethug Criminal Cartel of their monster. I am saying the Rethug Criminal Cartel cut a deal with the Democratic Establishment. And the Rethugs are running the show. Destroy Orange Anus 45. Introduce Ron DeSatan as the "party savior" in the 2024 presidential election. Did you know Joe Rogan endorsed Ron DeSatan? One thing I would like to consider for the "viewer of one" for the justice department. If Garland brings charges, a trial still would have to happen, and you would have to have 12x people decide to convict on whatever is being brought up. Having it presented in this way, and even breaking through the Fox news bubble for some of the presenters there, is what this is for. A statement that is not offered for the truth of the statement, but rather to show the state of mind, emotion or physical condition can be an exception to the rule against hearsay evidence. The credibility of the American system is on the chopping block and if the indictments don’t happen and at least one of them sticks, we may see a brain drain away from the United States. Incidently, Garland is holding back because everyone knows the Trump/McConnel axis denied him his job on the Supreme Court, so hes going to wait till a) hes got an open-shut case and b) everyone is yelling and screaming at him so it doesn’t look like he’s just trying to gin up something to smear Trump with out of revenge. (that’s in fact the only reason I was disappointed to see him appointed AG. I knew it would make him hesitant). It matters that Trump is guilty of seditious conspiracy or treason (or whatever they call an attempted coup in legaleze) and that he knew they were armed when he sent them to hunt down elected officials It matters that Trump is guilty of racketeering / trying to corrupt his own party in Georgia and other places. Just like it mattered to our faith in our country that Dick Nixon or Al Capone were publicly acknowledged to be guilty, it matters that Trump isn’t going to keep getting away with it forever.

All Democrats care about is fundraising. I'm not saying the Republicans are preferable--clearly they aren't. I'm just gonna paste something I wrote so I don't have to type it again. Joe Biden is Joe Manchin, as I see it. I do not believe that Biden ever intended to deliver on most of his promises. I'm supposed to believe that the President of the United States doesn't have the carrots and sticks necessary to compel Manchin and Sinema to vote for his agenda? Joe Manchin's wife is a Biden administration appointee! What, she just happened to be the best person for the job? Joe Manchin's daughter is implicated in the epi-pen price fixing scandal. IIRC, her master's degree turned out to be fraudulent, but she got an executive position at a drug company anyway. Manchin has clear conflicts of interest with regard to the green energy provisions. One of my senators (Menendez) opposed Medicare drug price negotiation, so that couldn't pass. It just so happens that NJ is home to more pharmaceutical companies than any other state. His daughter Alicia probably never mentioned that while reporting on the status of the bill on MSNBC! Joe Biden could simply make these Senators an offer they couldn't refuse! He delivers the meekest rhetoric I've ever heard from a president, and clearly cares more about the opinions and interests of his chums in the Senate than the unwashed masses. We desperately need campaign finance reform, but Democratic leadership has no interest in that because they're corrupt. It's as plain as day! Why should anyone vote for Democrats if they can't even compel all of their members to back a filibuster carve-out to pass voting rights legislation? Biden is happy to sit idly by and let this supreme court overturn the 20th century. All he and Democratic leadership do is gaslight us, hoping we will turn out to elect Democrats. Politics has become its own end for these people. And no, I'm not giving the Republicans a pass. There's simply no point in even mentioning them. Again, I am NOT advocating voting for Republicans. I am saying that people are not gonna turn out in sufficient numbers to overcome Republican voter suppression and gerrymandering. People (especially PoC and younger voters) already waited in lines for hours and hours in some cases to deliver the Democrats the legislature and the presidency. They did this because they knew how dire the situation had become. Now all Democrats offer them is a complaint that there aren't enough Democrats. We need MORE Democrats! They constantly ask me for money. For what? No matter what the problem is, the solution is always "elect more Democrats". Why did they not do any of this when they last had control?!? It's not as if they weren't aware of the threat then--and trust me, they were. If I could take a class on it, they were aware of it.

@@michaelahurt Yeah, there's always been corruption. However, the government also used to do a lot more for ordinary people, and there used to be regulations that prevented politicians from blatantly monetizing their offices. Democrats were reeling from their catastrophic loss when Reagan took power. Somehow, the lesson they took from that is that they should work on building a consensus with Republicans, and that, hey, "if you can't beat em, join em". And they did. Their policies have still been significantly better overall for ordinary people, but that's only because the Republicans are so much worse. Look at charts showing e.g. marginal income tax rates and income inequality from post WWII to now. You can clearly see the shift after 1980.

Good luck bringing any charges based on third-party hearsay “evidence” that’s already been denied by the Secret Service agents who were there, and were never approached by the committee - gee, I wonder why? Why was a committee meeting suddenly announced as other members were departing for the Congressional break, despite the “evidence” being known about from depositions going back for months? It’s because ratings and public interest have plummeted into the toilet and the committee had to do something, anything, to keep their bogus narrative alive through mid-July, let alone into November. The hearings will never overcome the attention being paid to extreme inflation, burgeoning energy costs, “immigration” invasion debacle, Afghanistan withdrawal disaster, rampant violent crime in Blue governed areas, education failures due to leftist indoctrination, and every other issue that’s actually important to voters, now including independents and mainstream Democrats, especially exponentially-increasing disaffected blacks, Latinos, and suburban white mothers.

Sometimes, you can't corroborate everything a witness testifies to. That doesn't make it worthless. To the extent you can corroborate what else that witness testifies to, it tends to suggest reliability with respect to the stuff you can't corroborate. A court is not a newsroom, which supposedly won't publish without corroboration. The trier of fact can and does judge credibility of a given witness. In Hutchinson's case, in court you'd have to deal with the hearsay rule with some, but certainly not all, of her testimony. What she heard out of Trump's mouth, for example, would not be hearsay, and what she heard out of his mouth was probably the most important, and chilling, part of what she said.
