In today's episode, we're in Portugal to explore an abandoned military prison that dates back to the 1600s. The buildings were originally constructed as a fortress to defend Lisbon. It would go through many cycles of occupancy and abandonment until its last use in the 90s.

Ngl, but Helix is way too massively overpriced, a twin for the same quality of helix can go for 300-400ish dollars, no matteress should ever be 1500 dollars. That is massively overpriced, especially for a twin size mattress. Do not go with helix if you want actually sane and good pricing options for a mattress.

My guess on the English sign is that there were archeologist students from some university, and although the instructors spoke English, it was not their first language, so their spelling was not really perfect. They had taken over the chapel and used it for their "workspace" probably because that was the only roof that didn't leak. So they reestablished the power supply and put heavy padlocks on the doors (or screwed the doors shut) to make sure their valuable research equipment didn't get stolen.

I haven’t seen this channel in nearly 4 years. Only recently started randomly seeing instagram reels of abandoned places and reminded me of this channel again. Came back today and was pleasantly surprised that they haven’t changed much in that 4 years. Was also heartwarming to see that they kept their awesome intro song. ❤

That “archeological site” you guys saw in the beginning wasn’t that nor a grave, it was a utilities cavern for electrical, water, or sewage or a combination for the new building that is renovated on the same grounds.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, stained glass windows were very common not only in churches. Where I live, there is a mansion, built in the early 19th century, with a huge stained glass window and chrome bathroom furniture, things that at the time, only very high class families could have. It is a shame, after the owners passed away, the heirs left it abandoned for many decades.

Yes its always a tough decision for us to decide whether to include it or not. I think it's an important part of the story of what we do but we also don't want to heavily publicize a playbook of how to get in, so that's why you won't see it in all our videos.

Hi Bryan & Michael, I wouldn't swap my Rem-Fit mattress for any other mattress but the Helix seems nice too. Such a beautiful set of buildings, the ceilings looked very ornate as did some of the stairwells. Although it was a prison at one point in time, it must have been nice falling asleep listening to the waves and seagulls. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💜

It's such a shame that someone with some forethought didn't turn these beautiful gems of history you explore into tourist destinations. Not a fan of "tourist attractions" but anything to preserve art, history and architecture. Good to hear that there may be a future for this place...other than prime waterfront condos.

At the 15:15 mark you hear "The floors up here don't feel the sturdiest." on that 2nd tier of the cathedral cell block. Meanwhile, at the 13:33 mark one says "I'm gonna head upstairs" and as he does, there is a black triangle with an exclamation mark in the center of it with the word "Perigo" sprayed underneath. Perigo is 'Danger' in Portuguese and that is probably exactly why it was spray painted at the bottom of the stairs. Warning people that the 2nd tier catwalk is rotted and unstable. No mention of that sign in the video as they passed it. Might want to pay attention to those types of warnings in the future. Entertaining video as always guys! You two are awesome bringing us these videos. Love your content! Be safe!

At 21:23 those are known as boring samples. Probably commissioned by the university to see what type of rock is around the existing structures. Useful information to determine load capacities for future construction, as well as determining how much excavation needs to take place to get to suitable bearing soils.
