K The reason they try to send you after rasp is because we were getting way to many privates with next to no jump experience getting fucked up on the first few jumps at regiment. We lose very few candidates at airborne ( considering it is significantly easier to get an opp 4 vs opp 40) they hand out airborne like candy offering to most 11x well at meps. That is also why it is not set in stone, some classes will still go to airborne first if we have a lot of men in pre rasp. It really depends a lot more on how many candidates we have in pre rasp, rasp 1 and rasp 2. With the holidays coming up this is a time of year we are flooded with holdovers and recycles so many will do airborne first. But Iike I said it really depends

Austin Rousee thanks Austin! My son is under the Future Deployment program (ships out on June 15th, he is a senior in High School). He was offered, well he insisted on an Option 40 contract, his ultimate goal is to be a Ranger, nothing else is acceptable in his mind. On his contract, he has a tentative OSUT graduation date of Nov 27th. Then they have him scheduled to go to Airborne School starting the next Monday, which gives him the 3 weeks to graduate Airborne before the Christmas break. We assume this will be the case and then he would start RASP after the Christmas break. It’s very confusing as no one can give us a straight answer. But, I have also heard that the switch the order, but maybe in his circumstance, due to the graduation date and holidays, he will execute it in reverse order.

Attending airborne then Likely getting shipped back home to you for the holidays, and will report at Pre RASP when he gets back from leave. That’s exactly why I get annoyed when people say one is before the other, because like I said it is different for everyone

Lil_Ghost 32 Ok that’s great that you want to be an Army Ranger. Your still young so you have lots of time to prepare before your time comes. As I told my son when he decided to serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment or one of the 3 Battalions. There’s nothing I can tell you to prepare you. Everyone is different and have a different experience. You could become a cardio machine because you will be pushed to your breaking point. I’ve seen SEALS, MARSOC RAIDERS AND PJ’s fail Ranger School. You’ll get smoked until your mind is begging you to quit. It doesn’t matter how strong you are it’s about your heart. You’re body will go wherever you push it to go. Now you’re heart and mind will question you ( 3hrs of sleep a day, soaking wet freezing and starving is what will make you quit. I’m proud to be a Ranger but I won’t lie for me it sucked. Always gone no personal life. However with that said some of my greatest times in my life was while serving in 1/75 Ranger Battalion. Quitting cannot be option. I can promise you that road to the Regiment is a difficult one. You will learn a great deal about yourself. So train your cardio. As far as gym training I’d get into CrossFit as is falls in line with the type of training that the Rangers use. There is not a better Spec Ops unit in the world that is as demanding as RASP or RIP:

Not always, it depends on how many holdovers and so on. Some people will do airborne first and some will do pre RASP and so on first. It literally all depends on when you go.

I've also heard that no one will even consider you a ranger unless you have both the scroll and the Ranger tab.

@@brennanrizer94 I mean idk theirs alot of guys and that just have the ranger tab and never severed in 75th and to be honest if your not in 1st bat 75th 2nd bat 75th or 3rd bat 75th then to me tab or not your not a ranger if you didnt sever in 75th If you didn't go to combat with them then your not a ranger to be a ranger you go to rasp and then go to Reg and serve with those guys and go to combat. those guys earn that scroll and to me the scroll speaks louder than a leadership ranger tab.

Vegito The Ultimate Super Savage my recruiter said the same thing I’m basically at the same point as you man...he said anyone can volunteer for the “75th battalion” once your in the army because they’ll have a special forces stand at most MoS’s. Don’t know how true this is but just gonna go after the 11x with option 40 cuz I trust the info I’ve heard online.

Once you comple basic training and get sent to a unit it will be very difficult to leave and go to RASP. And no, Ranger school doesn't make you a Ranger. RASP does.

Aresfire2 nobody signs up for 82nd Airborne. It’s simply a unit like 4th ID (where I was) or 10th Mountain

You can't sign for any specific unit unless you want them to choose your mos for you. Also, you can go to RASP and Ranger school after going airborne, you don't HAVE to sign an option 40 contract. But, once again you won't ever be told that you will for sure get stationed on Fort Bragg by a recruiter.

It's not. All you have to do is talk to a recruiter about it and get it put into your contract.

look it depends the active duty army will pay for your college but trying to fit it in your schedule is going to be hard but it varies with mos where your stationed and if you take online courses or not. Or you can go to college and use your benefits after the army. It's up to you. Like it depends on your degree also. so talk with a recruiter

@@PWill Thanks for reply Brother, I'm ex-USAF (don't laugh) and trying to get my son to enlist. He is very athletic. I feel just getting him a 3 year stent with the 82nd would be great for him. I know he could excel @ anything P.T like they throw at him. My cousin was in the 75th for many years and retired as a E-9 then did some contract work. I would love for my son to enlist with a path into the 82nd and push for the 75th. I know P Will it's up to him and his future. I've also worked (retired) 32 years on CH-47's & V-22's. I wish he could get into Army Aviation but don't feel he has skill set for that. He definitely has the Ranger skill set PT wise. How hard would the mental (Educational Aspect's) be as he just has his GED?

I told him I wanted it in my contract and he said we can do it but we would have to void my current contract and they'd have to reserve my mos again and send me back to meps to reenlist all over again and it would push my ship date back and I dont want to go through all that again so I was just gonna wait till after my first 4 years are up

I was 17 when I started the process to enlist and my parents wouldn't sign the consent form if I had airborne on my contract that's why I was asking if I could just do it after my first 4 years

@@justingohs4085 After basic Ranger recruiters will come by your company and offer slots. If you get a 300 on your APFT then you'll can be given a slot for Pre-RASP/RASP. If you get a slot don't quit, that's the most given advice, *don't quit.* The better shape you are, the easier RASP will be. Be good at calisthenics, rucking, push/pull ups. Go on the GoArmy.com website and they'll have a RASP workout there for free, or you can buy one from GreenEyedDevils. Goodluck, RLTW.

Don’t know if you still need this answer but basically it’s hit or miss on availability. I was lucky enough that my recruiter was able to secure me an option 40 with a bonus. If there’s a lot of people wanting option 40’s the probability gets lower if the amount of people goes down your probability gets higher. My advice is do not sign that dotted line until you have everything you want in writing. Verbal promises mean nothing.
