I met and spoke with Chris Driver, the owner of Driver Motorsports. He felt the exhaust would be something similar to the HKS Hi-Power in stainless steel. He said titanium sounds more raspy compared to steel which has a heavier smoother sound.

Yeah I think that's even one of the exhausts used on the Do Luck car, Chris seems to be a very knowledgeable guy, really friendly too

@@TheRacingJoker one thing about the T51r replacement kit is that it won't have that iconic whistle. The anti surge compressor housing doesn't have the same design. You'd have to get the turbo modified by a company like OCD works.

The Special set up kit sounds more like the Kream Developments R33 rather than Brian's R34 I still think the T04Z is still the best and most accurate option.

I think the engine used in the skyline was an RB25 and from what I have found that engine sounds a lot like the movie used one.

They used a mix of rb20-rb26 engines Craig Lieberman has a full video on it he was the tech advisor for the movie.

I don’t remember him saying RB20, but I do remember him telling me I had probably figured out where they got the sounds since he wasn’t on the sound team to see the exact cars they used. MotoRex only imported GTRs into the U.S. which means seeing anything other than RB26 powered Skylines would E been unusual. The Do Luck R32 and R34 demo cars but we’re built with HKS single turbo kits and exhaust systems. When you watch footage of them you can hear that they obviously sound exactly like the 2F2F Skyline without any modulation of the sounds. And since they were in the country at the time it stands to reason that they were what was used for the sounds

That DoLuck R32 was also a motorex car. Unsure if it ever got rebuilt, as it was involved in a bad wreck. A PT cruiser blew thru a red light and totaled it several years ago. The owner had said he was gonna put it back together.

Something like that ought to have the PT driver's insurance cancelled. Those hideous cars were hardly ever worth their value in scrap money. Have you ever seen dash cam footage of supercars being smashed into by ignorant commute traffic (e.g, Honda plowing into a Lambo)? People joke about what the phone calls must be like.

I can definitely see why a lot of people think that! Since I made this video Ive actually come to the conclusion the actual car they recorded was the Do Luck demo car. One of the few R34 GTRs that would’ve been present in North America at the time. It had an HKS stroker RB26 and a T04Z turbo kit

@@TheRacingJoker well the twin scroll aspect of the turbine separates the exhaust pulses to improve responsiveness of course. But in the process of doing that, it throws off the exhaust pulses from 120 degrees to like 240 degrees I think. I heard an RB26 with the largest single twin scroll turbo that Borg Warner makes, and it did not make the 2f2f sound. I think the 120 degree spacing plays a big role in achieving that sound

T047 DEFF IS IT but t073 sounds close the R34 sounds closer then the R32 maybe because the R34 in the movie had a cold air or something has that suction noise

1:36 I didn't realize the Do-luck R34 GT-R is Motorex car. I know most HKS T04Z & T51R was discontinued. Newer Turbo from HKS GT3-4R turbo I heard back in couple of years ago. Trust (Greddy) still have a T78 & T88 turbo as well. Is T88 turbo also can do sound like Brian's R34 GT-R?

That stuff sounds great! In reality, the car the sound team used was a MotoRex car with the full HKS T04Z turbo kit (which is discontinued)

Probably! From what I know, if you can get the exhaust manifold to work it’ll sound the same. I know 6boost makes manifolds that sound like this

Sound wise this a good turbo but performance wise, it’s not . The HKS 4R turbo will max out at 600hp

@@TheRacingJoker your right about that sound but if you’re trying to make over certain horsepower which you know skyline GTR owners will want more later down the line this turbo is not with it . As far as the 5r turbo goes it won’t fit the 4R turbo kit setup you’re going to have to find the old T51R manifold and if you can’t find that meaning you have to make a custom one in that leads to everything else has to be custom made because you know they don’t make the parts anymore

I'm gonna disagree complete with you on all three and say the sound is Factory twins with aftermarket high flow intakes. I had a greddy/trust T78 turbo, and it is as stealthy as it comes sound wise. I does NOT make any sort of spool noise what's so ever. The turbo was right behind my head (91 toyota MR2 Turbo), and it was quiet like a mouse. You would only hear the wastegate open to the atmosphere, and it kicks the sh.t out of you. However no spool noises what's so ever. The T51R is the exact opposite sound wise. YOU KNOW when it is coming on spool-wise. Why do you think their are so many companies offering the T51R mod to other turbochargers? Any turbocharged car I've driven with factory turbo sounds like Paul walkers car as long as it had aftermarket high flow air intakes of some kind.

@@mrsquirrel8079 I gotcha. I think for the turbo sounds they actually faked them using power tools. The reason why I think that is because when you listen to the original sound files you can’t hear the ‘turbo’ as clearly as you do in the film. Moreover, Craig confirmed they used construction equipment for a lot of the car sounds. As for real life I’m pretty sure the car the sound department used had a T04Z (do luck demo R34 MotoRex car)
