That's because You have friends. Imagine that You didn't have a friend in the world. What if having a friend would prevent You from Hanging yourself in the garage. $15K is a small price. My first job out of university paid $138K/yr, I was single and no debt. When I went oversea, $160K/yr after taxes. $15K is a weekend in Moscow, Amsterdam, Las Vegas, …. I pay for Pre-school for the SOCIALIZATION, I could keep my 4 yr old home let him watch KZfaq and eat junk food.(I know he would like that more) Minds do not mature in a friendless vacuum.

She sounds pretty pathetic to want to waste money going out of state to be with friends and risk not having her some of her credits transferred. Trying to go in debt to keep up with her friends, she needs therapy! It’s on her to make new friends or keep in touch on social media with her friends until the summer! Life isn’t perfect that we get everything our way all the time! Her father sounds stupid asking for advice and making it sound like he wants to be “Christianly to handle this?? A good parent knows when to say no! You can’t be your kids friend, you are older because u are supposed to have wisdom! A teenager with no money has no say!

She's romanticized the "college experience" because colleges have worked hard to build this illusion for the sole purpose of milking students for every penny they can. Did the father mention Mizzou? The Mizzou? The circus of a university that other universities strive to become? She also needs to learn that, just like her highschool friends, she's entering a stage of life where friends are going to come and go. As soom as she leaves school those friends will be gone.

@RamaSivamani
@RamaSivamani 3 жыл бұрын
Well just because things are not permanent that doesn't mean they don't have value for that time. The friends you had in college you probably did appreciate and have value for during those 4 years you were in college. Now going into debt for this would be foolish but things having value just for a fixed perod of time or just for a stage of your life is still value. I had friends in college that I do not really keep in touch with anymore but I would still consider them valuable for that time and stage in my life.

Pauline Davis yes but said she went to a very small religious high school. That type of upbringing and schooling frequently stifle maturity as many are taught to ‘obey and never question.’ I ran into a handful of them in community college they all had an extremely narrow/uneducated view of the world and were all really immature.

Seriously? I’m most likely around her age and yeah it is a hassle not having money to socialize (idk if that’s her case) but she needs to cut her classes in half and pick up a job as a bartender or something she’d make bank and plenty of socializing.. idk that was just my route not everyone is the same

I'm not sure if not having money to socialize is the issue, considering that she's able to go to school for low cost now and finish up a 4 year nursing program for free....The Dad said she went to a Christian high school, and most of her friends went away to a certain college, then he said his daughter didn't have other young people to connect with at church, because most of them were off to college. I'm positive she's missing out on opportunities to meet and socialize with other Christians at her community college. Most colleges have groups such as Young Life, Baptist Student Union, Newman Club(Catholic), Cru(formerly known as Campus Crusade For Christ), and others. She is being shortsighted. I hope she listens to Dad and Dave and doesn't go to the college to be with her friends.

To be clear, her entire problem is: she just wants friends. And that’s wrong considering the hard schooling she is trying to get through.

I wish this guest - and many of them - took three deep breaths before they talk. Calm down. Slow down. And...please don't repeat yourself. This dad said three times that he "understood" his daughter's desire for social life. That's a given. Didn't need to be repeated three times. That long-windedness cuts into Dave time, which is what we're here for.

There's no way this dad is saying NO to his daughter. He had to call up Dave to ask this silly question proves he's a wimp and will let his daughter borrow the money. Doesn't matter what 'dad' says now on the phone. He's not going to say no. My gut feeling.

I think it's funny both of you completely ignore this mans statement. He asked HOW he could convince her otherwise. She's an adult, he isn't there to say no, he's there to try and teach her why she's wrong. Saying no is a great way to say I told you so 7 years from now, not on how to get it through their teenage head.

I made a lot of friends and connections in college in the dorms and frat. A frat brother got me my first job out of college which I never would have got without him going to bat for me and that job directly led to my current six figure job. Sure lots of partying and craziness goes on but don't discount the lifelong friendships and job help you might get later on in life.

People move on. 99% of the friends people make in University will forget about them within 2 years after graduation. I graduate December 2020, and i've already accepted that many of these friends i made over the next 4 years, i probably will never see again after we graduate. That's life.

Make new friends where she is and find outlets beyond church and school to meet new friends. She can ALWAYS call her old friends, send a postcard, or visit when time permits. The truth is lots of friends drift apart after they go away to college, because they have new interests, different goals, and new friends, too. I know people who moved on campus, just to be with friends, even though they lived 15-20 minutes away, living rent free with their parents....I thought it was incredibly dumb to live on campus and rack up unnecessary debt to be with a friend, but they thought otherwise.
