I am officially a Dave Ramsey fan lol!!!! I have had a similar situation going on for the past several years. I thought I was crazy because I was surrounded by foolish people. Nice to be vindicated!

I don’t understand but I’m just strict. My son got me evicted from my apartment last year. Since then I moved out, he is leaving on his own. He has court case which he is not compliant with. Last week he got fired from him job and his car got towed and is not compliant with his court order. I have advised him and he doesn’t listen. Sad enough I work in the court system and know what will happened to him. As mother, I’m not doing anything. You know why? Because he doesn’t want to listen. Nothing he has in under my name. I refuse! He has to deal with his consequences. He texted me asking me to rent a car for him two days ago. My response was, not responded at all. I’m sorry, I don’t play that. My son doesn’t want to listen, he will have to deal with consequences. What you don’t see, you will feel.

Amazing. She bails her daughter out time after time and then wonders why she is so irresponsible. BTW, I would not have bailed her out of jail. At least if she's in jail it curtails her spending and sitting there MIGHT have given her time to consider the error of her ways!

I wouldn't give the daughter another cent either. She clearly lacks financial knowledge. I would let them know that I will help them learn how to budget their money but the bank is closed and good luck to you. I don't think you are doing them any favors by bailing them out. At that age they should be more responsible with their finances.

Basic advice.. you got crazy people, that wanna involve you in some kinda crazy-dance.. DON"T DANCE... don't answer calls, don't send holiday cards.. NADA!!!!.. All religion aside.. the fact is they are adults. I can understand a real emergency (not jail), but this is a pattern with these people. They need to get it together and find their own way to fix their problems. They aren't going to starve.. they will find a way to make it through. Stop bailing them out!!

I love this guy.

They would be STUPID to invite them to their house. When someone tells you it will be "considered harassment", if they come there and start problems they could call the law on them and they, (this lady on the phone and her husband) could wind up arrested and in jail. Never, ever take threats from family or anyone lightly.

It would be very interesting if we could learn how these "train wrecks" turned out a few years later. Sadly. I would bet the majority never change. Dave's advice is golden.

The one thing that tells me I have been a good parent is my child being able to take care of himself in the world.If they can't, I have failed as a parent. The whole purpose of being a parent,THE WHOLE PURPOSE, is to raise a child that can take care of themselves and their offspring BY THEMSELVES! You will die before them, probably, and they need to be able to live without Mommy and Daddy!!!!!!!!!!! Why have kids and raise them to depend on you?? So they can fail when you die?

Excellent advice Dave! I know a few who this story could relate to, who have a lethargic view on working in general. As for those who commented earlier, if someone was deliberately offended at taking your very friendly advise completely missing the notion that you care for his/her wellbeing, would you still: - fund them? - employ them? ...just a thought.

How is it that my wife can listen to Dave’s “tough” talk about raising kids and praise him, but when I have the same outlook on raising kids I’m the devil? Our 19 year old kid is bubble wrapped to the point he’s a pet and I can’t do anything like Dave suggests. Boundaries are a bad word in our home.

She could use a friend to remind her that it's necessary for her to release herself from responsibility for someone's else's actions. It hurts so badly when you finally make the choice to say, "No more. Figure it out on your own without my help now." But her conscience is alerting her to the fact that the alternative is even more devastating. I hope she gets the support she may need to construct and *hold* the boundary. What a painful experience to watch her baby go through all that...

Why should these 2 kids do anything for themselves when they have anything handed to them. Kids really know how to put the guilt on. You are doing your kids a diservice by bailing them out all the time. Thank God,they don't have grandchildren from their kids,then the claws on guilt really dig in!!

Failure to repay would be treated as default and treated as such...to use the dimwits words back against him, in a slightly different bent. Take them to court, get your money back, then ghost them. Get new numbers, block their numbers, whatever you have to do. Get them out of your life. I understand, she's your child and it hurts you to let go. DO IT! Do it for your sanity!

One day after reading Dave Ramsey's book I went to the bank to start saving and working towards my goals.. When I got home I caught Dave banging my wife.. I cried and I cried and stormed out and thought to myself.. How could I have interrupted the financial god!? He gently put his arm around me and said.. She was the problem in the financial situation and it all became clear..

I disagree. Drugs cause the brain not to function correctly. I spent 6 years and funding two addicts who happened to find their recovery with me pointing the way over 35 times. Yes..it cost me thousands but I thank the lord that they are still here. If I sent them out in the street after them loosing everything their was a good chance of them passing away. So Dave.. I disagree. Do your research of how drugs effect the brain. And sometimes ppl do need help because when your homeless..doctors will not medicate you so that is why ppl self medicate.

He shows little compassion for a religious person. Be strong and consistent I get , but he seems to have a big issue with adult children needing help . Just because Dave says it’s because I love you I’m going to kick you out the house, not support you while you learn and disown your child. That’s not compassionate it’s cruel.

I watch Ramsey for financial advice that may sound rational, but when he goes into his religious rants- it starts to defeat the whole purpose of money. Always trying to downplay religion with money. Which one is it?
