I am in the same boat with not having a college degree. I make excuses for not making more money because "I don't have a college degree". I have interviewed for 3 different jobs in the past week that all "preferred" a degree. In all the interviews, not ONE asked why I didn't have a college degree or mentioned anything about college. I created an imaginary wall for not making more money because "I don't have a degree". Nobody told me that. I was telling myself that.

Moriah Orsten i feel you. I use to be the same way until I got sick of waiting on raises and realized its going to take too long moving up the ladders over the years. Start your own business and work for yourself in something you love to do is the way to go. But it’s not for everyone because it’s hard work to build clientele. Not only that, but sacrificing your free time to build your business. And also getting criticized from family who don’t believe in you. But once you reach your goal, there’s no limit on how much you’ll be making, your income then depends on how much you want to work.

I mean, she just heard about Dave. At the end of the day, a lot of people really don't think about finding a second job until someone smacks them over the head with it. That idea is less common now. And people will see "well I'm making OK money, I should be fine. So why am I broke?" And until someone points out what we, having gotten to the other side, think should be obvious, it's really unclear. Thus why Dave goes easier on people who call in and are newbies to his show. Because they are sitting in the fog and he wants to guide them out. Now if she calls back in a year with the same problem, well he'll be harsher and smack some sense into her. But for now she needed a more gentle push to get going.

Hmmm when my income was lower than I wanted it did the following; Worked full time in sales, attended college at night part-time, worked as a bouncer at a club on Friday and Saturday night. I figured I was going to the bar anyhow and rather than spend the money I can earn it. Still saw my friends got paid as well. Oh and I was a reservist for 6 years one weekend per month. Fast forward and I earned the degree, moved up in the company, quit the bar scene and satisfied my military commitment and earned a honorable discharge. Socked money into the company 401k from an early age because I knew if it was in my pocket I'd blow it. well, that is also looking pretty good now that I am 54 years old and retirement is looming. Dig deep and it can be done without filing bankruptcy.

I had the same thing happen. I dug through my records and discovered it was the beyond reasonable and customary charge that the dr wrote off under contract with my insurance. When that practice went under they sold everything they could to make money and that write off was illegally sold to a collections company. At that point it was 7 years past the date of service. Way past statute of limitations. I asked them to mail me proof of the debt and they wouldn’t. They just sold it to another company. That company made the mistake of telling me the name of the debt collection place. It turns out it’s illegal to sell if you dispute the debt and they can’t prove it. I wrote a letter to them stating I was disputing it and what my records said. Never heard from them again

Our attorney quit us because we would not sue again because their was no cause, so he wants to be released. He said it triggered a triple payment clause in our percentage contract and the case was civil for trespass. He wants to be released we did not sign it. He said when we lost our trial because he missed all the deadlines so no new evedience could be presented. At the end of the trial when we lost, he said good news is you don't owe me anything. Then when we did not want to sue he said we now owe him 150,000 which was triple. next day 160,000 then if I want an invoice he will triple it again. State of Georgia, then he wanted me to put a lien on my house make him #1, the a promissory note for 160,000 and then release him. Now he says he is going to sue me put a lien and foreclosure on my house. We are on limited income, retired. 74 and 68 husband has cancer and I have heart issues. HELP

Here for advice. Im 19 years old and i live in canada making 22,000 a year after taxes I currently have $20,000 saved up. $5000 is currently in a retirement account and earning approximately 8% per year. Im currently living at home but wants to move out within the next year or two. I have zero debt. Since I only make 22,000 a year how expensive of a house can I afford or get approved for? I wanted to buy a full house instead of an apartment so I can rent out the basement so they can pay off my mortage for me.

I don't want to Judge Too Much from one conversation in one snip it. But I don't like when people default to blaming somebody else for why they're not in a better position. If he works in it then there's no reason he can't find a job that pays more then 25k. I suspect maybe he's not really IT and he may just be in customer support.

Not exactly true. Almost every person I've worked with in my 20+ years in the IT field did not have a degree. Maybe some college but not a degree. I know CCIEs and sys admins who never set foot in college. I've hired extremely knowledgeable people without degrees. For me it's about what you actually know and your experience. Most of the people I've worked with in the IT field who have degrees, don't pertain to anything in the IT field. Now that we've shared comments you can now say you know 2 people who don't have a degree in the IT field. I encourage people to go to school, without taking on debt, but make sure it's for the right reasons and when they're done it will translate into a career.
