I agree! We live in MO. Live very simply. We've been out of debt for over 30 years, not because we've made a lot of money, we sure haven't. It's a penny saved, a penny earned people. We haven't spent a dime on interest for over 30 years. We've got to are good decisions. You can do it's so worth it!!!

I actually think you should feel overwhelmed and stressed if you are in that much debt. If you didn't then that would be a bad thing IMO. That stress is what drives us to do what it takes to fix the problem.

Dave still tends to think these companies care about you more if you're onsite. They care about their bottom line. That's it. Nothing more nothing less. If cutting you means making a target, guess what? You're gone. Onsite or not

Sounds like she has a choice to make: send the kids to public school and find a job, or continue home schooling and work nights or weekends. She gets to choose how it's gonna hurt. People in the comments crying about "have you seen what public schools are like lately?" "being a stay at home parent is a job enough" yeah ok well then she will continue to live like this instead. Tough times call for tough decisions and sacrifices.

true. any time someone says their debt is about 1yr of income I think thats not bad, unless you make $50k and less, then it can get tricky due to living expenses eating up your budget

Maybe she doesn’t want her kids indoctrinated and doesn’t believe in having other people fund her kids’ education. I’ve found that the most lazy people work in the office by the way because they use the office as their social outing.

Yeah, but she was likely doing nearly zero actual work for that money. Working from home while dealing with 4 kids, home schooling, dogs, and chores? That company was paying her out of charity.

They have online homeschool programs. The parents don’t have to do a thing anymore. Other then making sure the kids log on everyday. Plus made she works the evening shift.

I wish they’d asked what the loan money was used for, and how much the car loan is. Husband should have cancelled going on the mission trip and got a refund. They’re broke. Men don’t go on trips and put the family at risk. Bottom line, this was a good call and these people are going to succeed.

3:16 She has 6th, 4th, and 2nd grade, plus a one year old. If we are talking about a team effort, the school age kids can be in public school, and she can do *something* part-time to bring more 💰 into the household. Hubby can get a vasectomy too, then the potential of a 5th child being inserted into this is avoided

The kids are in school… just not public school. My opinion is homeschool is an important priority so I’d rather work evenings or weekends and still homeschool. Also once you have a couple kids, they don’t get that much more expensive with each additional one. As long as you’re still using hand me downs and not buying new baby gear each time. They’ll start to get expensive closer to teen age again but at that point these folks can have their debt cleared and teenagers can get jobs for the things they want, not necessarily need.

Absolutely. Everyone wants to quit traveling to the work place and work remote until they have to sign the agreement of keystroke and webcam monitoring during the work. It has been getting folks knocked out of the remote workplace since it started and more so lately.

Debt is so normalized. People are trained not to think about it until they realize they can’t pay anymore. There is a 9 episode podcast “borrowed future”. They specifically only address the school loan crisis, however, you will see how it bleeds into everything.

FYI, Dave hates work from home because he owns a commercial building that relies on his company paying him rent to come into the office imo. I work from home, I am 20% more productive than I was in the office.

What about when he was renting a facility to run his radio show out of and still didn’t support working from home? He makes great points *why* he doesn’t support remote working. He doesn’t say much about it in this video besides those positions are being the first to be let go right now, which is true.

@joyfulhomemaker8053 when was that? The work from home conversation started post pandemic, he has had his commercial property then, he has touted the value of that property multiple times over. It's probably 15% of his net work at minimum

About sums it up. Most of it is because of long term office leases companies signed - if wfh then companies will be wasting money. That and micromanaging. What is the point of all this technology then if it can only be used to make life more complicated? The past few years illustrated it works and without wasted commute times efficiency went up for most workers.

Yes!!! I own an auto repair shop & talking to remote adjusters- they was always apologizing for their kids, dogs, etc in the background! It didn’t bother me but many must complain as I usually got what I needed from them- probably because I was understanding! 😂

Insurance agency wasn’t answering the phone. They were only returning calls. When they called me, they had a rooster incessantly crowing in the background, making the call very difficult. Totally inappropriate. Another time with another company, I was transferred and my call was answered immediately (probably so they didn’t get in trouble re the queue) but I was immediately put on hold for a long time. I suspect she was in the middle of something complicated in the kitchen. She gave me what I needed. Probably afraid I would complain.

@@genxx2724 I just got off a call with insurance company. She really didn't sound interested in helping me. THEN a loud crash, falling rumpled papers/files falling & hitting floor? Scrambling for them. It was loud. Continued on, not motivated to help me. I was sad 😥

I prefer a hybrid mode of work. You should absolutely be in-person so that you can meet your colleagues and network etc. but having the ability to WFH every so often brings so much flexibility to your life and allows you to build a family. I think we should encourage hybrid work as opposed to “all or nothing” either way

I have these friends who are 50 yrs old and whe they were in their late 20s had massiver debt, but they both had good paying jobs. He told me him and the wife sat down agreed to the Ramsey plan and they did for 3.5 yrs and became debt free and now they live like royalty

It's not truly feasible doing the Dave plan if you're supporting a family in CA on $90 - $95K per year unless you're living like you're partially or fully homeless. They may want to consider moving to a cheaper state to follow the Dave plan to completion.

I would have let her go too. You cannot homeschool/care for young children AND effectively work a job at the same time. And Dave's "yeah, we are finding that remote workers are the first to go" is completely bogus and he is saying that to validate his own beliefs that workers should not be remote. After all, HIS workers are not.

A lot of big companies have reported higher productivity from people who work on site. With some businesses, it is more efficient for them to not rent out the office space, and some more efficient for workers to be present on site. The way I see it, a lot of people are saying they are just as efficient working at home to validate their own beliefs, just like you say Dave is doing. 🤷‍♂️

I disagree with the first part, but agree on the second part. Lol. She said ALL remote workers are being let go. Nothing to do with her job performance. And also for all you know she does her remote work in the evening or weekends, when her husband is at home. She only makes $800 to a $1000 a month. So perhaps she only works a couple of hours a day.

Get rid of the pets. A dog on average costs $20k over its lifetime. So many are pet poor. You’re broke, you can’t afford a dog.

Well Fresno is like Oklahoma but without all the charm. It really is the armpit of California. Their mortgage payment is only $1400 a month; they'd pay more than that for rent.

Wait a minute. She works remotely AND home schools her children? You cannot do both of those tings well. No wonder her company is letting go of remote workers. From what I have seen in my own office, the remote workers are the most demanding and they whine more than anyone.

Maybe she works when her husband gets home, or when the kids are asleep, and weekends. It was only 800 to 1000 a month by her own admission. So it's doesn't sound like she was working 40 hrs.

I never heard of the Ramsey show and I wake up one day went to make my truck payment and realized more money was going to the payment than the interest so I started paying more money on the loan till I paid it off, then I started with the next loan and I got addicted to paying off my loans one after the other including paying off my house and that was the happiest day of my life being debt free ,no one told me what to do I just realized what I needed to do and done it, and it was just that simple my husband trusted me to do what I was doing , he worked and made the money and I paid the bills off.

Budgets have to be in perportion to your income. I'm on ONLY S.S. make 1,700. Hud apt 25 % of income . After bills and food there's about 600 left to either save or use for extras that month . You must have the extra to plan for emergencies

If I had four kids there’s NO WAY I’d work from home. I had the option when my kids were little but nope, just not worth saving the gas/wear and tear on your car. Maybe she has a better scenario where she can lock herself in a sound proof room, but I didn’t have that.

They did have more than enough income so how did they ever get so upside down? Time to stop spending and live on 50% of their income and send the rest to debt reduction. The good news is unless you live in a high-income tax and high property-tax location, your taxes will be very low.

no you cant...she was lucky to have a flexible remote job she homeschools the kids and is the caregiver... tma daycare even if it was safe and not thinking of the poor kids being with who knows who away from home all day would be thousands a month i have a 2 year old....the average amount if i would to have a job with no overtime type of hours would cost somewhere between 250-500 a week...and that isnt safe for my kids either

hahaha yup! I stay at home with my kids and educate them. They drop grapes into my mouth, bring me cappuccinos and rub my feet while I watch TV shows all day. Its a luxurious life!

The second oldest profession in the world is care taking be it for kids, the infirmed, or the elderly. Maybe consider some before, after, and some school break childcare while you're an at home mom. Maybe pick up a 3rd shift job outside the home.
