BROKEGROVE LADS is a studio-only improvised psychedelic rock project of musicians from Fort Worth, TX, and Birmingham, AL. TERRY VALDERAS is a Fort Worth native, currently in exile in Birmingham, who's drummed with The Toadies, ESP, Parasite Lost, and The Gideons. ROBERT KRAMER learned to play alongside Terry, and has played with ESP, Tabula Rasa, Gumshoe, and Purple Overdose. In October 2012, the two jammed at a party with guitarist KEN SHIMAMOTO (Stoogeaphilia, PFFFFT!, HIO), and plans were subsequently laid for a project with musician-producer MATT HICKEY (Pop Clearinghouse, Joe and the Sonic Dirt from Madagascar, HIO, The Fellow Americans). In December 2013, they convened at Eagle Audio in Fort Worth for their first session with producer-engineer extraordinaire BRITT ROBISHEAUX.
THERE ARE BUT FOUR BROKEGROVE LADS is the product of their second session, recorded with Britt at CLOUDLAND RECORDING STUDIOS in Fort Worth. Two of the tracks are improvised jams. The third, "ONWARD THROUGH THE FOGG," is a tribute to Fort Worth heavy psych band FOGG, which Ken wrote "under duress" after Terry suggested they compose themes for the next recording session. Robert's son, Alex Kramer, provided "spiritual guidance."
