My favorite memory of this whole experience was standing peacefully at the orange barricade listening to the sound check. No one wanting to be unruly, everyone who was there just standing there peacefully enjoying the music.

I was there. I remember the drive from Maine. We pulled into a rest area somewhere along alligator alley. I got woken up at 5:30 am to some crazy wook screaming in my face “the gates are open get up!” and that was the beginning of my amazing new years 2000 weekend at big cypress. The best most memorable new years in history

Hey bro that's really cool, this is the first time I've looked for footage since I was 19 and I was at the show from Wisconsin. I walked beside the highway for hour after hour looking for a ticket and lost my friends. I got in for free with a friend of the band eventually although the guy wouldn't tell me any details about how he knew them. When I walked into the mass of people I walked straight into my friend that I lost in the traffic jam it was amazing-! The traffic jam tho... 12 hours for me, people falling asleep and a half mile between cars at times because everyone was asleep in their car and then they would turn their car back on and pull up and go back to sleep again😂

Clearly one of the most important events in the history of modern music, and you could easily argue American culture as a whole. Nothing really epitomized this generation so well despite the fact that Phish was a niche band in some ways. I think their significance stems from the origins of Phish fan culture, which tends toward upper middle class and educated. In some ways you could see this as the high water mark of established American bourgeoisie culture. Everything changed in the 21st century, and America began its speedy descent into ruin. But the energy and beauty and chaos and unique naïveté of American youth is on full display here, turned up to 11. I wish I had been a phan back then, although it might have killed me. Maybe if I had picked Cornell over Georgetown I would have found the weird hippy kids who should have been my friends back then. Sometimes it feels like I’m living in the wrong timeline, like I missed a turn somewhere down the number line and have been lost ever since. I mean look at me in the YT confessional at 2:37am on a Wednesday in an AirBnB because we don’t know where to live. I’m not complaining, just … letting the thoughts out. God bless all you beautiful freaks and geniuses, all you lost souls and wanderers. Who knows, am I right? I really need to find a decent therapist.

Just got back from Phish at AC beach this past weekend, and came looking for footage of what was the best musically transcendent experience of my life: Phish 2000... which was whispered all throughout the crowds walking to and from the stage... and also a lot of moo-ing and baa-ing as we herded ourselves back and forth... I remember lots of people looking for smoke (as they had gone through their supplies in the traffic jam), and tons of folks on the radio station giving places to meet/find their friends. So many memories... that setting, the people, the vibe, the jams... just a true freaking dream. Got a teeny snippet of that this past weekend... what a feeling 🐟✨

@divinederelicts2956 Nice. I love that joint. I was a part-time drummer in Uncle John's Band and played percussion in Rich Whiteley Band. Skippers was always my favorite place to play, it has a great vibe. I still sub for UJB on occasion when their regular drummers are unavailable. I played my first gig at Skippers in fall 89 (with a different GD band) and have seen more shows there than I can count. Looks like UJB lost their weekly at Ringside in St. Pete, I'm kind of hoping they go back to doing a weekly at Skippers

What a great time, 1 of the best of my life. Here's a good story from trip down to Big Cypress- i didn't want to drive from Chicago alone so I hooked up online w/2 kids who needed a ride. Met first guy in Effingham (he was from St Louis) & was scheduled to meet next guy in Paducah,Ky. Got to Paducah w/no problem & we were set up to meet at a Shell station right down street from his house. Dude shows up(his name is Keith) & we load up & get ready to hit the road and-shit- the car won't start. We try for a few minutes & still nothing. Luckily, Keith had worked at Paducah Ford before & he called them up explaining the situation & practically begging for help. The kind ppl at Paducah Ford agreed to stay open a little longer in order to help us out. They dispatched a tow truck to the Shell station lot. We're waiting & tow truck shows up & we couldn't believe our eyes. The name of the Tow truck company? Hippies Recovery Services. Swear to God. Right then & there we knew we were in for a great experience. It was just a minor problem w/the car & 45 min later we were headed south to Florida. And my word, did we have a great time. Big Cypress was amazing & the vibe at the show was unlike any other I've seen, so overwhelmingly positive. Only disappointment was not getting a copy of the picture of my 1971 red Impala on the flatbed of Hippies Recovery Services. So if you see this Josh get in touch with me buddy & you too Keith. Hope everyone has a great day!🐕🦺🎸

Anyone remember the dude who ran through the gas station at the end of Snake Rd screaming “they’re opening the gates!! They’re opening the gates!!!” And everyone ran to their cars and drove to the gates, and they were not opening the gates? They started turning cars around to leave one by one, and we were getting closer and closer in my friend’s ‘94 Taurus we drove from Northern Maine…. Until they tried turning a hive RV around on that narrow road, after about 6 points he decided to straighten it back out, and refused to turn around… My friend Nick was arguing with a cop at the time about turning around, the cop told us to make our friend shut up before he went to jail… and because of that RV driver we ended up being the 8th vehicle into the show once they decided to let people in. We got prime selection of parking and camping… God bless the RV driver and God bless the dude who ran through that gas station shouting “they’re opening the gates!”

I remember that people were jumping the line by use of the left lane, and a VW bus passed us with a person on the roof. Later I learned that person fell off and died. That held up traffic for hours more. Also, at the turn off to the reservation, there was a gas station. Traffic was held up as people would were waiting in line for gas were blocking traffic to the show. After the show, it took close to 36 hours for the traffic to move from our camping area.
