Konomi Suzuki is a Japanese anison (anime song) singer. Born in 1996, she was inspired to become an anison singer by a character from an anime she watched during her teens. In 2011, at the age of 15, she won the Animax All-Japan Anisong Grand Prix. She made her debut with the release of her first single "Choir Jail" a year later in 2012. During her 11-year career thus far, Suzuki's songs were featured in many popular anime series. Some of these include No Game No Life opening theme This Game, Re:Zero opening theme Redo, and The Pet Girl of Sakurasou ending theme DAYS of DASH. Known for her powerful and expressive vocals, Suzuki beautifully captures the story essence and mood in every anime series featuring her songs.
THERE IS A REASON is the ending theme for the movie No Game No Life: Zero. This song is the No Game No Life series' second featuring of Suzuki after This Game. Composed by Japanese musician Hige Driver, THERE IS A REASON tells the tale of love and fate as depicted in the movie, where the two main characters cling on to their feelings for each other amidst the war and destruction taking place around them. Despite their powerlessness to change their fate, their deep resolve and desire to stay together serve as their 'reason' to survive and overcome all their hardships.
The song maintains a melancholic mood throughout, mirroring the grim setting of the movie. However, it slowly builds up in intensity, reaching a peak in the final chorus. This piano arrangement reflects this transition with its light opening sequences, while increasing in complexity and intensity with each chorus. This reflects the characters' struggles and determination, as well as their increasingly stronger cries out to each other.
Performed by Gabriel Tan at Annual Production 2023, 16 October 2023.
