Yeah outdoor toilets and rationing, the average man and woman only just having had a few elections to vote. Just recovering from the great depression Great time to live now compared to then. Didn't even have a national health service and many Victorian slums were still in use.

@@heythisisminenotyours Right because the current prime minister was voted in? But anyways, here we go! Atleast people didn't breathe in plastic and consume super processed foods, there was something to do outside other than get stabbed, tap water wasn't contaminated with birth control pills, the high streets were filled with British shops instead of Turkish barbers and kebab shops used as a money laundering front, you could make enough money to live off one income and still afford a mortgage DESPITE THE GREAT DEPRESSION, children were not exposed to pornography and gender ideology from like the age of 12, higher birth rates, lower divorce rates, no social media, obesity levels close to ZERO, no hookup culture therefore more children with parents whereas today a 1/4 of children live only with a single parent, list goes on.

I also admire your ex prime minister Margareth Tacher( I know that she was controversial and dont want to go into that) because she was the only polititian who supported Croatia in 1991. when we were under agression from all sides and was very uncertain if we would survive as a country. During that time when we were fighting against Serbs four our independance and when Croatia was not recognised by other countries she gave us support and that is why I admire her. Also I have some relatives in UK and am big fan of your culture, history and traditions.

While this is a great song there is a problem with it becoming the English national anthem with the line "Red, White and Blue" as that is the flag of the UK. A better song would be I vow to Thee my Country. It may still have UK connotations thinking about what artwork it is linked with but they are not mentioned in the song so it could probably get away with it and it is beautiful piece of music too.

I live in the North of England. It still looks like this. People drink in the same pubs their grandads did. There's poverty, but there're no acid attacks, no moped thefts, no grooming gangs. You might get a punch up outside the local on a friday night, that's about it. But it absolutely infuriates me that London has become so utterly detached from the rest of the country that to most young lads where I'm from the idea of living or working in London is completely unthinkable. We've got virtually nothing in common with our own capital city now - how can that possibly be right? It should be the place we feel most safe and most welcome of all.

Gosh.. this brought tears to my eyes. Dame Vera Lynn sadly passed away today, 18th June 2020; we lost a national treasure. Just watching this video made me realise how truly free everyone must have felt on that day.. walking freely in the streets with no fear of being bombed, or an air raid siren going off. Having to rush to do what they needed to get back home ‘just in case’; it must have felt so freeing, especially for the younger generation, to say to their siblings, friends, partners.. ‘grab your coat! Let’s go!’ to join hoards of crowds to dance & celebrate until the small hours that they’re finally free of Hitlers clutches. Seeing those young women & men at the end made my heart swell. Those women likely waited all of the war for their men, crying, praying, begging for their safe return. Enjoying walking in the fountain with no cares in the world before embarking on the next stage of their lives. My father was born on May Day 1945, he sure knew how to make an entrance. My mother was born Jan 1946, & they both remember the ration books, the sense of community that continued post war, & patriotism; something not always experienced these days. Thank you for sharing 💕 x

I'm not even English, but I love this song so much. I can well imagine, how this beautiful anthem of hope gave people all the endurence and bravery they needed during England's darkest hours. When people were hiding in the bunkers and subway stations, while the Blitz was going on above them, during the long Blackouts and when food and basic supplies were rationed. I've seen some of the old black and white fotographs, that show civilians still smiling and making music while they were hiding underground, people continuing their everyday life like nothing ever happened, while everything around them was laid to waste. That's what I appreciate so much about the British: You never surrender and most important, you never loose your humor, even in the darkest times. People like Winston Churchill and Vera Lynn are the embodiment of that spirit. May she rest in peace. Nowadays, we all need that spirit again. And this song says it all: If you stand together, believe in your country and yourself, then you will withstand every crisis. So come what may, there'll always be an England! I hope this song still encourages you the same way it encourages me. Best wishes from Germany going out to all of you, my English friends!
