The phrase well ordered- bounded- liberty springs to mind. And thus, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there, in that place, variously understood, immaterially, and materially, is liberty. Without boundaries, of virtue, of law, there is only license, and chaos, and liberty is lost, personally, and nationally. Inward liberty, from God, and made concrete by the practice of virtue, is the only way to have, and preserve, liberty. It cannot be done by law alone. Authoritarian imposition of virtue or order, by the left, or the right, or media outlets thereof, cannot accomplish liberty, but the opposite. We need to get back to basic definitions, or liberty, personal, and national, will be lost. Liberty is a uniqueness in history.

For all of those poor wretches who gave this performance a thumbs down, we must pity their miserable existence. To not be moved by the glorious, melodious and soul-stirring sound of this beautiful singer is to be among the brain-dead who have never felt anything in the realm of deeply moving performances. Vera Lynn was a participant in a time requiring great courage, great stamina and an unflappable belief in Britain and its allies that they would defeat the great scourge of Nazism and everything evil that it stood for. Clearly the thumbs-down people have no understanding of what it meant in 1940 to be up against the kind of tyranny being rained down on the British Isles. As is often said, Winston Churchill had the lion's roar while the English people had the lion's heart. And Vera Lynn in this song and performance perfectly demonstrates the spirit of it all. So at last count, 1,665 people did love this piece and 51 did not. Of the latter, all we can believe is that they simply do not possess sufficient depth of feeling or understanding to know what this song is all about. Poor devils, living poor lives, with a poor appreciation for courage, and a complete inability to feel what it is like to be stirred by great performances.

Probably globalist types who have drank too much of the no-nations-no-borders- nonsense...cheers from the USA. Don't know what the future holds, but it's time---past time!---for people to start standing up against the greedy elitists and show that nations can defend their identity heritage and culture without it necessarily leading to strife.

Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free, How shall we extol thee, Who are born of thee ? Wider still and wider Shall thy bounds be set; God, who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet God, who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet. [Choir] Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free, How shall we extol thee, Who are born of thee ? [Vera Lynn + Choir] Wider still and wider Shall thy bounds be set; God, who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet God, who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet. ---------- Full Poem : Dear Land of Hope, thy hope is crowned. God make thee mightier yet ! On Sov'reign brows, beloved, renowned, Once more thy crown is set. Thine equal laws, by Freedom gained, Have ruled thee well and long; By Freedom gained, by Truth maintained, Thine Empire shall be strong. Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free, How shall we extol thee, Who are born of thee ? Wider still and wider Shall thy bounds be set; God, who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet God, who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet. Thy fame is ancient as the days, As Ocean large and wide A pride that dares, and heeds not praise, A stern and silent pride Not that false joy that dreams content With what our sires have won; The blood a hero sire hath spent Still nerves a hero son. Thank you for the lyrics. I wondered, where have I heard that song? I love that song it has great meaning for me. Oh yes, now I remember, graduation day for myself, my children, and my grandchildren. I believe we call it POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE. 1958, 1960, 1988, 1989, 2017 & 2021… Feel very REGAL. Important, sad, and relived, but deciding the truth will always sustain us.

Listening to Vera sing this song reminds me that Great Britain can once again survive and prosper like we did in the dark days of World War 2. We are once again facing an ominous threat from Europe in the form of leaving the European Union but Great Britain will again be a land of hope and glory post Brexit. God bless and thank you Dame Vera for reminding us of the British spirit that helped the country win the threat from Europe during WW2 and can do so once again with the present day threat from Europe caused by Brexit.

Yes I agree totally. If we say England is too multi-cultural or that muslims in particular look out of place culturally or even dress-wise,we are branded racist. We speak the truth which millions believe-I don't think it's racialist to point out that most muslims do not want to integrate into the community. They don't want to understand our culture, history and tradition. This is why such songs as' Land of Hope and Glory' will never resonate with any muslim, first generation, second and so forth, because they can't understand the background as to the meaning of such songs to a true Englishman. The fact is we have too many muslims in this once-proud country.

I know what you're saying. The German national anthem however,,especially the rarely sung and least translated second and third verses, are hardly an image of peace and remember this is still that country's anthem, evoking memories of Hitler and the Nazis,as it does.

Frank Hyland As a loud mouthed kid I used to make fun of these patriotic songs. Me mum, quite rightly, gave me a clip across the head. Many years later, me Dad took me to newscasts showing the blitzes in London and to my horror the Holocaust. Had nightmares for days and I deserved em too! I have never, since, been so ashamed of myself. My Dad was right. Needless to say I have never made fun of Vera since - and I never will. God please forgive me for my arrogance and to all those gone in the War, some of them no more than boys, my heartiest apologies I did not know any better. God bless you and forgive me too if it is in your heart. Cheers me mates.

Throughout the war, the unique voice of Vera Lynn encouraged British and dominion troops, across the airwaves, to go the full mile for King and Country. She was young and beautiful, and it is fitting that she sang this song in 1962. American forces must also have received encouragement too from a young English Rose , as they were cousins to the mother country..
