That's what's cool about good problems. Really small changes in beta can unlock the whole route. We also tend to memorise those small adjustments, and carry them in our toolkit wherever we climb 👍👏

Just spent 3 hours on my first bouldering session trying it out ( no instructor of course😂) I’ve been mountain biking a couple years and the fluent motions you need to learn just make sense. It reminds me so much of the lack of technique and endurance in specific things it inspires me so much. I’ve been a landscaper 13 years but I’m proud even after pushing on some bouldering v3-5(did almost everything up to two in the gym except a hanging climb)trying things out I couldn’t do but could see how to do that I’m not worn out. I’m trying to drill the movements in my mind but everything takes time and I’m patient but excited😂 I have had giant boulders I’ve climbed here and there in my yard but it’s opening my eyes to some different routes. I thought boulderers were crazy as a kid attempting a 15 foot flat barely any grip vertical/ sloping forward face on one but I see why now although one hurt themselves falling on are boulders😂

Grades in gyms are not objective at all, ESPECIALLY between gyms. just because a problem looks soft to you in a vid doesn’t mean it isn’t that grade. It is, for THAT gym. Your local gym most certainly isn’t reliable grade wise either. The closest thing to reliable grades is climbing outside.

The grading system for indoor climbing just gets easier and easier each year…. That’s a V3 at most. Source: been route setting for almost a decade… Setters are specifically told to not grade too low as it can discourage new climbers, which are the primary source of income for most climbing gyms. Yet another reason to ignore the grading system at your local gym

As a route setter, you should know the only accurate way to determine the grade of a boulder is by climbing it yourself.

Give me all the ridicule you want. I don't like this type of climbing. Personally, I'd call it the "new" stuff that is becoming more and more common nowadays. But it's really not interesting or fun. It's more like the setters are bad and come up with dumb shit. Climbing isn't a video game or supposed to be a bunch of flashy "dynamic" bs. It's supposed to be slow, methodical, precise, static, and controlled. All this jumping around stuff is for the children, I think.
@kylief29756 күн бұрын
You can totally have your opinion and what you prefer, but let people have fun. Especially since covid, people have been trying to find new ways to climb, and even make it an art. If it's enjoyable for them and takes genuine effort who cares? :)
