To tell the story of Highland Park is to tell a tale of two cities. There is the Highland Park that gave birth to the assembly line and forged the middle class, with schools and hospitals and homes that were the envy of the world.
And there's the Highland Park we know today: its factories empty and schools long- shuttered. Prosperity exists only as a memory.
“I remember Highland Park, what it was,” said longtime resident Eban Morales. “They had something to be proud of once. But not anymore.”
During the automotive boom time of the 1930s, more than 50,000 people lived in Highland Park. Today, fewer than 9,000 residents remain.

So incredibly sad, I was born at Highland Park Hospital in 1958. God Bless you who have stayed in Highland Park. I hope the obvious ego issues in your local government devolve, and hope is restored to your community, and it begins to thrive again.

People are responsible, the people voted into office, people who become parents and don't teach their children manners, respect, responsibility and honesty. It's not hard to figure out, it's happening everywhere. It all starts at home, and then pray our leaders do the right thing. Every person in this country us entitled to an education, but not ever person gets it, nor other basic things many of us take for granted. Sad, this is happening and our leaders aren't paying attention. Look what happened in Flint, again, leaders making stupid decisions.

Neither state nor city government are responsible for city state. They always use program or program-adaptive control functions that work with outdated data - that is by design. A city budget will always be insufficient with tax model. Only predictor-corrector control function covers all stages of management (Full Management Function). Conceptual power is the power of ideas that have dominated human society for thousands of years and the power of people who are able to generate such ideas. It is the highest intra-social type of power out of 5 existing ones: conceptual, ideological, legislative, executive, judicial. Conceptual power: - recognizes factors affecting society; - introduces them into his system of stereotypes; - forms vectors of goals in relation to each society; - forms management concepts for achieving development goals. It is autocratic by nature and ignores the "democratic" procedures of society, which do not see and do not want to recognize its autocracy. Global predictor decided at the time to move production from Detroit, USA to South Korea. City officials elected by you can do nothing with this.

My family once lived in Highland Park, Mi. I attended 1-3 grade in Highland Park in 1953-1956. It was a nice community to live in at one point. Attended Highland Park Community College before transferring to Wayne State University.

It's too bad Ford never turned the old Model T plant on Woodward into a world class tourist attraction...the home of the 1st moving assembly line. It could have brought in people from around the world.

It doesn’t matter who is in leadership, there’s not enough people, no taxes, 21 million debt for water alone…that is astronomically outrageous, that is a catastrophe. They are going to have to get a major player in town, who or what that will or could be, nobody knows. HP may have to become a resort town, a vacation spot, surrounded by parks, bike paths and nature reserves, maybe a solar park or build a lot of affordable homes for working people. There is absolutely something that will be done, when will it be done is the big question. 50 thousand people down to 5 thousand leaves me to believe that nothing residential is there.

Drugs, sending manufacturing to China, political stupidity, ( look at California), and the lack of pride many people have in themselves brings down society through their actions.

This is incredibly sad. It's seeing things like this makes me more upset every time I see an Asian car in my neighborhood. If we had supported our own country, we wouldn't have so much poverty in the areas that once thrived by the automotive industry. I still only drive American, but really is there any real American car left? In the push to stuff the pockets of the top executives, everything became "globalized." I got into a "discussion" many years ago with a Buick executive at the Miami International Car Show. When I said that I would feel betrayed if I bought a Buick and then found out it was made in China (which was the concept he was pushing), I would feel betrayed. The guy became so irate, I was ready to call security. I'm guessing he was one of the proponents of said globalization. I'm sure he is living a very comfortable life while those people who worked for Buick in Flint either had to leave or are living in poverty.
