I am amazed at the clever and always beautiful results that you achieve with each new technique that you teach. This one is a MUST on my list of newbies to try. This gives such a lovely, soft blend of color. I really enjoy coming in and finding a new video from you. They are so relaxing to watch and you make it very easy go follow. I wish I could quit my job and hunt up beautiful pieces to paint! I'm on to part 2. Thanks so much for all of these wonderful tools that you share....please keep them coming!! 😊👏❤🐑

Trina Williams ... your comment was so kind and made my day ... thank you so much Trina 🙏🤗 This was a new technique for me and when I thought how the whole technique would work I chance lead the idea to film it and soooo happy I did! The tutorial is longer than I normal would make but I really wanted to repeat the process and slow down the time to make all the details as clear as possible... it’s so important that people are successful with their projects. When I first started and realize how quickly I was completed ... I was so exited to share this technique!! Please do give it a try in the future! I promise you’ll love it and be over the moon with how beautiful the results are! I have another “colour meshing” tutorial coming next week and it will be short as the project is smaller but it will refresh the tech and having another colour mix hopefully will engage more enthusiasts to try its simplicity 👍🏻😉 Thank you so much again for your kind words and feedback... it’s a huge support 🤗

TAMMY BEMIES ... thank you Tammy 🙏 for your kind words and comment 💙 I absolutely love 💕 this technique... it is easy, simple and fast!! I am so impressed with the results... I have done a couple of armoire’s in the past and my only concern was the time when I saw this beautiful one ☝️... all I thought was “ the blending time to make it ?” So my goal was to figure out a faster way to paint larger pieces of furniture 🧐 I am so in love 😍 with colour meshing !! This tutorial was longer than my usual tutorials but I really want people to give it a go and be successful with their projects so I figured to add as much as I could and repeat the steps a bit to get the technique down for viewers 😉🎨

Kimberly Drake Hi Kimberly! Glad you guys understand! When I made this video, I knew it was going to be a long tutorial but I was worried of the length so I split it into 2 videos. As a facepainter we often load small sponges with different colors to give an ombré look and then continue to use the sponge to blend and even out the entire look. It’s a similar technique. Tip: The smoother the sponge the less stipple, creating a more even look. Loved your video! Gorgeous piece.

Staci Hartman ... thank you so much for your kind feedback and yes! The shellac is way more simple than primer 😉🎨 Another tip ... just in case ... if you ever find a piece of furniture that even after a good cleaning you notice any smells that seem to hang out ... Shellac will also eliminate odours and smells ... just spray the inside of your piece😉 I had this happen a couple of times after a few cleanings and still smelled funny, I sprayed the shellac everywhere inside and the smell was gone !! ☺️ Thanks so much for watching 🤗💙

Fun! This looks like a must try tech to me. I can see how the clear glaze gives one a more slick and mobile surface to mesh the paint together. Love the "slide in" at the beginning! You crack me up Christina. Gonna watch the second half...

kim jensen ... lol 😂 I didn’t plan the slide in but thought it looked pretty funny and wanted to keep it in the video 😂 Thank you so much for your kind comment and feedback... I so appreciate support! I thought it would be important to make sure I added both examples of colour meshing with and without glaze just in case viewers want to try without in case they may not have clear on hand ! It’s easier with glaze because your chalk paint stays moist so you don’t have to add water as you blend the paint 🎨😉 Thanks so much for watching 💕

I get so picky when I edit videos... he is always telling me to leave stuff in , allowing viewers to see even silly things I do lol 😂 I was so excited when the meshing actually did what I hoped it would!! I am still floored how quickly the blending went 👏👏👏 The next tutorial will be another “Colour Meshing” refresher and allows to view a new colour palate with even more contrast in colour tones! This technique is a game changer for me☺️ The results, simplicity, and time saving is absolutely amazing 😉🎨💙

You are so clever! And I do agree with all the lovely comments below that you have the perfect balance of explaining and showing! You seem so genuine and in love with this craft as we can relate to! Don’t stop what you’re doing! I’ve been going through a difficult pregnancy and for me (as I’m sure others will agree) that painting furniture is so therapeutic! And your videos have been so helpful and enjoyable to watch! The only question I had- when working with the glaze, do you add water to anything? Either the big sponge or your paint? Thanks again for your video! Jess 💛

Jessica Farnworth ... thank you some Jessica for your kind comment and feedback, it is greatly appreciated 🙏💙💙 You are so right about therapeutic!! And through difficult times both physical and emotional it is fantastic to find a creativity that works for an outlet and distraction... it actually helps your internal balance regulatory system which is huge!! As to your question... you do not need water when working with the clear glaze ... that’s way I love it!! This is STUNNING 😍 I LOVE the dusty pink. When you started using that sponge thing I remember when I was doing a mural on a wall for my son who was only 7 then, he's 25 now, and I was 8 months pregnant with my 4th child, the ceilings were 10 foot high and there was no way I was getting up a ladder so I grabbed my sponge mop and used that for the clouds and blending. I'd forgotten about that until now. It wasn't perfect but he loved it and that's all that mattered. You have to have one of the best technics for chalk painting 🤗

Hi Maria! When I started out, this was a product that was available in my area, and I liked how annie's paint blends. Over the years, I have tried other products and they are good as well. I have recently implemented in my tutorials other less expensive paints and with my techniques you can use them in other paints that you may have handy. Chris Hamilton ... thank you so much for your kind comment 🙏💙 The mix I used was one ☝️ part per colour So example... one tablespoon of Scandinavian pink, Antoinette, Coco, Country Grey... so it depends on the size of your project, you can use half a cup which is about what I use for this Armoire or maybe even try quarter cup. It is one to one ☝️. If you want more muted I would take away the country Grey and the Scandinavian pink and coco together does look fantastic! I made the mix before I started to apply and even added more colours as I went just for the highlights and lowlights 😉 Hope this helps.... if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime 🎨💙💙

I love your videos and your techniques. Just wondering what you do about inside. This piece looks like it’s seen some years, if it’s for resale do you paint the inside or refurbish in any way the inside? Sometime there are smells and inside has been trashed. Just wondering. I’m going to try this as soon as i get my mesher(?).
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 жыл бұрын
Mildred Fippen ... thanks so much for watching and your kind feedback 🙏🎨 Every piece is so different and yes some have seen some years of wear but as a general rule I do paint the insides and sometimes even add wallpaper to give a new fresh look as well as detail. If you come across a piece that has been stored in moist environment and has a old smell to it , use shellac spray on the inside it will take away any odour you might notice , clean it first then shellac spray! No amount of paint will take away a moist odour. Always use a shellac spray outside , it’s not good indoor use. Please send my a photo when you complete your first mesh project!! I would love to see 🎨💙💙

Is the heavy use of dark wax or brown glaze a Canadian style, your style or something customers like?
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 жыл бұрын
Ann Eichenberger ... so for this tutorial I made a 2 part series. On my KZfaq channel you will see a part 2 how to use wax over chalk paint 🎨 As for style , it is all about preferences and everyone is different just like any style of decor. As for this project and my style I prefer the old world character and vintage effects but that doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. Some people prefer just the colours with no dark wax effect which is totally fine. It is a popular style as for my sales but preferences are different. As for heavy use ... that is a persons preference, I actually used very little dark wax on my chalk paint projects ... but what I do is add highlights and lowlights making it look like a worn and faded look similar to what dark wax does. Hope this answers your question? If you have any other questions please feel free ask ... happy to help 😉🎨💙

I have all coll colors slate blue...violet toned charcoal... and bright white in my house...ive been watching you for years and so would love to get this look...but I've tried so many times...I started out my house and all my furniture abdctrume were going to be bright white....I love it....but ended up trying to get creative and putting grays in when I painted my secretary in greatroom ...now feel like I need to stay with grays/white for the giant bookcase with lots of detail....my problem is I don't have...nor necessarily want the very warm colors you use...but can't seem to get the depth...seems like since I'm just using gray and white it kinda just melds into gray ...lol....HELP...I tried some if my slate blue ...but that seemed to act almost like gray since it has gray in it....the other problem im having all videos I watch the dark color is around edges and top....but this is where I want white the most...to contrast with my charcoal wall....here is my white I love on the kitchen dining side of my open concept "room"....here is the other side....I screwed up and put a charcoal trim at top of secretary...this will be redone with a white wash/rag or dry brush...a new fireplace with full mantel coming soon will be white (for now since I am backed up on my painting projects and it takes me months to get a piece done because 1im a novice 2 im picky)....and lastly pux of my book case in two piece since I moved to paint it...then am hesitating because I'm torn on what to do want it to coordinate with the secretary which is the gray/white kind of driftwood look...its ok but I hand painted all detail...NO TO THAT AGAIN. THAT TOOK ALL LAST WINTER...I WANT the white contrast in edges and top....But seems like that won't work well since NOT ONE FURNITURE ARTIST HAS DONE THAT IN THE THOUSANDS OF VIDEOS I'VE WATCHED IN THE LAST 5 YEARS...HELP...I LOVE YOUR WORK ...BUT CAN YOU FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IT WITH MY COLORS..OR A THIRD COLORTHAT WOULD WORK(TRIED A SALMON PINK WITH IT BUT DIDN'T LIKE IT...maybe I should have toned it down first...lol)..I WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL ...now let's see if I can figure out how to send you pix....edit bummer I can't figure out how to attach pix....but would love to see you do a cool color white gray...possibly with blue or a coordinating color....that would pop on a violet undertoned charcoal wall....or will this combo just not work with your techniques....however I did do my toilet closet with a blue base andc2 light grays...with your floor water techniques here...turned out OK for the toilet room...but not so much for my bookcase...lol...if anybody can figure this out IT IS YOU!!!! THANK YOU LOVE ALL YOUR WORK...I WISH I HAD PAINTED MY WALLS LIGHTER TO GO WITH YOUR STYLE BETTER....TOO LATE I CANT AFFORD TO REDO EVERYTHING AGAIN.....AND I DO LIKE MY SLATE BLUE ALMOST GRAY WALL WITH BRIGHT WHITE CABINETS.....I ALSO LOVE MY OPPOSITE WALL THE CHARCOAL...BUT I ALSO LOVE YOUR GORGEOUS PAINT TECHNIQUES....

Hi Terri I completely understand where you are coming from! Since we moved into this new house the style of everything has changed. Picking out the right colours and making the furniture pieces I already have work and cohesive in the space. I love the new house but buying another home I now have someone else’s colour palette throughout. I plan to recreate everything and furniture projects too. I also would like to recreate some old techniques I used in previous videos from a long time ago. I completely understand where you are coming from and trying to make all the projects come together. I definitely have had to redo many things because I thought it would work and it didn’t quite work lol 😂 But it’s also cost when I have redo projects like a room colour. If you want to send me photos send it to my email if you can thereclaimedheirloom@outlook.com If there is anything I can do to add tips or suggestions I would be delighted to help in anyway 🤗♥️♥️

Christina… my question is totally unrelated to this particular session but very important to me (lol). Have you ever painted leather? I hope this is not insulting….. it’s not meant to be. I LOVE your work and I have great respect for you, which is why I’m asking you. I’m wondering if it really works and whether or not it lasts as some say. I believe you to be an authentic honest artist … so I’d try it on the 2 leather chairs in my office that are at least 60 years old!! You might say what do I have to lose? I don’t want to mess them up. They’re in very good condition… but are an ugly brown color. I want to paint them “off white” and accent the arms and back with matte black tack nails. I really hope you have time to answer. Thank you!!!
