Now we can get to work. While there was lots of discussion on size, cab, old v new, brands, etc, the best tractor is the one you have and right now it's this. A Solis 26, and until we discover any different, it's doing everything we ask of it and more. There are more agricultural suitable machines and others suited to construction but as a great starting point we now have some power and versatility behind us to make a start on lots more projects.

While there was lots of discussion on size, cab, old v new, brands, etc, the best tractor is the one you have and right now it's this. A Solis 26, and until we discover any different, it's doing everything we ask of it and more. We had a larger riding mower when my kids were small. We had rules! We now have a small riding mower. We still have rules for my grandson. Congrats on your new tractor !

Great bit of kit. Remember the hydraulics drop suddenly if the valve is touched when engine is off, I always shake the loader joystick to remove all the pressure after shutting the engine off. Also if parked with the loader up it might creep down so don’t leave it above a car bonnet!

Just a tip for you, use an old tyre if you have one around place the transport box down on an old tyre it makes putting the box on the tractor much easier.

Just an idea Tim, these etsy folk sell log slices with designs on, you'd get thousands of slices out of one of those fallen trees and your kids could paint the designs on them, keep them them busy lol Great channel.

Nice disclaimer at the end. I assume that was for those that have never done anything more exciting than turn the telly on or opened a packet of crisps. Life is full of dangerous things from the minute you open your eyes in the morning. For normal people it’s quite obvious you take safety very seriously and would not put the lives of your fabulous family (and that includes your adorable dog) in any risk whatsoever. Keep up the videos it’s great to see you and yours moving on. P.S. when do you sleep.

Hi all what an adventure, judging by how it’s coping with the materials you’ve had delivered the tractor is going to be a big asset . My late cousin was a farmer as was his farther , he was driving tractors from the age of eight and a combine harvester at fifteen . No doubt many will be horrified at this , but the reality back then was everyone was expected to help , especially on the small holding farms . I think you both are being absolutely wise in your approach as regards the children , the more they are involved the more they will respect their environment and be aware of the dangers and the benefits. Love the compact tractor looks very versatile with the attachments, just watch your security as unfortunately farm theft is high for items that can be pushed onto a medium size truck. I had a brand new ride on lawn mower stolen from my small farm, 2 days after it was delivered……

Lots to learn. Is that the smaller model tractor? Looks pretty capable! Is there a top someplace in the accessories? I suspect it would be a good thing to have for a day of summer mowing.

I still think a compact tractor is not as useful as a skidsteer, but trialling the machine is a great plan. Re kids on and around machines. I was brought up on and around farms, so I am a strong believer of kids knowing about heavy machines. Both from how to be around them and operation. Not not is it safer to get them involved earlier, but at times they can make sole use safer eg I. Your log cutting scenario your oldest could easily move the boom if a log was in a difficult position. The key in my view is danger awareness, good communication and clear rules. I can see Rosa mowing the bottom paddock in not time.

Shuttle. Seemed like the best of both and possibly a little more controlled in certain situations. It’s a pretty quiet machine all round, only when you are up at PTO revs that you might want 🎧.

@@timmysk2670 can’t say I’ve driven it so couldn’t compare. Best bet would be to chat with Blacktrac as they are experts with all things Solis. Mention TRC as they have offered to sort out a discount or extras. 👍

All important question, does the tractor have a name yet? Continuing the nursery rhyme theme of Humpty Dumpty - how about Little Boy Blue (or Little Bo Peep if you plan on getting sheep) ? (unfortunately, as it's a new tractor 'Old Macdonald' doesn't feel like a good fit) And just putting it out there, but when you get the mini-digger it can be Little Miss Muffet, making tuffets everywhere

You're right to be concerned about safety, but the tractor is small and low with excellent all round vision, so this helps to minimise dangers. Big modern tractors are more of a risk because of poor vision around the wheels etc.

I think the big dumper is more of a risk with such a blind spot… and old brakes. But better to have a blanket rule for the girls. 👍

I agree. When our kids were young they needed supervision round the yard; it got easier as they got older but a health and safety assessment was still necessary.

Under the health and safety act you are 99% responsible for your own and others safety. The other 1% is common sense. I was going to comment about your rollover bar at the start but you did what I expected when you attached your box you also sorted your roll bar. You also asked the driver how to operate it before doing anything which I consider great thinking and great safety. So I do not think that the disclaimer was needed as you had already shown good safety practice especially after the stern "we have rules around the tractor". As always thanks for posting
