Top tip: when using any squeezy type bottle, use a small Irwin quick grip clamp around the body and apply the trigger as the point of compression. Saves hours of time as it gives a steady flow of glue without any effort

I wish I could say that I haven't over-reacted like that but I'm sure my wife will tell you otherwise 😄. Also wish I could say I've never underestimated the amount of material by one piece. Only a couple of weeks ago I was feeling really smug that my new garden office was just the right width for my flooring without needing to make any cuts. Made it really easy to gauge how many pieces I needed. That was until I got to the doorway and realised I had forgotten the 100mm into the door 😣.

I must say that I also have reacted this way. When things go right us blokes pat ourselves on the back with a look what I did and when things go bad we shout and scream as its never our fault when it usually is and we just feel like a twit. Its called life and it would be a boring place to live with out us drama queens. The great thing is that in the grand scheme of things its just a trivial thing that will bring chuckles in yours to come when you talk about the whole build. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face and for posting.

Great to see you both working as a team, good effort, the membrane is designed to allow air fllow, so would have dried out in the end, keep the videos coming 👍

I've used Silage Sheet to cover up large areas/objects to protect from the weather. Can be supplied in huge sizes, is relatively cheap, UV resistant and if looked after can be used again and again.

You could lap the membrane up the sides on all sides and tuck under the egger flooring, creating a water tight envelope for the insulation. Any rain would just drop off the floor and down the side of the membrane

That flooring is waterproof as long as you put a dsb of the glue over each screw hole 👍

The ingress of water is due to capillary action - I've been there before. I think you're going to need some form of temporary overhang, until the outer wall is in place - as even tucked under the there will continue a narrow gap that encourages service tension and in turn the water is pulled through.

Revolutionary stuff in many respects. Follow your nose, the summer is coming and any moisture trapped will surely dry out. Nice to watch your journey. R&T

Comming on guys! like it! the insulation would dry out! and probably capillary action from the edge!.. but wouldt worry to much about wet insulation! 90% of modern new houses get rained on!... are you leavig them apart or pulling them together, a roof between the two with glass panels would look ace and give you a huge enclosed space for wellies, coats, quads etc. keep it up!..

Some beading that hangs lower than the joists so water won't creep up under the membrane looks like it would be a lot of hassle but if you're painting the base to improve the appearance it could look quite effective. I was thinking of something triangular, wedge shaped that jutted out but took run-off water Also, selling on (it could improve the look & practicality of the design) it may be worth looking at chopping up some wood with a table saw to make some form of rail/bead around the base. Another job you didn't really want to have to think about though. Could you do a few designs and install a meter of each and then ask the viewer to vote on what would look best? I don't know if I followed your router solution, but if you just stapled the membrane onto the inside face of the joists (the opposite to the face showing on the outer) that would lift the membrane enough to stop any water dripping in - it may stretch the membrane but it doesn't have to be stapled to the underside of the outer facing joists, it could be stapled to the inside face.

I wish my house had insulation like this! It was built in 2006 with a suspended floor with air bricks and no insulation. It's so cold in winter.

Looking good . I am really enjoying these videos ! When you were planning the cabins did you consider using using those insulated panels you built your workshop with. I am thinking about building a much smaller cabin using a box steel frame ( because its much cheaper here in Italy ) and I am toying with using those insulated panels for the walls and maybe even the floor, and then covering them with something nicer.

We did that for the workshop last year but planning on using natural materials here. New video explains all later in the week.

Forgive my question if you covered it, is there anything other than gravity holding the floor framing to the steel frame? I can imagine the trailer wheels hitting a rut when you’re moving this, and the whole thing sliding off.

are you moving these after you build? they look heavy enough now. how much will they weigh when you have finished the build? your poor little tractor doesn't look like it would be up to the job,
@TheRestorationCouple
@TheRestorationCouple 2 жыл бұрын
They need to be moved 15m or so. Either towers with telehandler or may get the cranes in to place, depends how level the surface is as joining them is the hardest bit, especially if not flat.

Dont forget the exposed edges of the boards are not waterproof/resistant and will soak up water. Egger recommend painting the edges/perimeter of the floor with the PU glue
