Looks to me like the hole was made from the inside with a soldering iron. So they wouldn't have damaged the internals as the back panel was removed to damage it!

I thought the exact same thing. Start with it working, strip it and “repair”. Then damage it up and then discover. Then just memento the whole thing.

The plastic is probably ABS, which gets soft over ~100°C. If you use a Dremel with an abrasive tip, that temperature is reached pretty quickly. And once it gets soft, it just gums everything up and gets even hotter and then you end up with the mess you see around the hole. Ask me how i know. 😁

You can also see it in the paint, too. The paint during the reassembly looks more matte, whereas during the spray painting bit, it dries glossy.

Yep, noticed that the ramen hole patch was pretty thick compared to it being sanded down when they actually put it into the hole with the super glue.

Yup, I made a video about that on my channel. They are filming in reverse and thats it. So they have nice and working/restored one but thats the last part of the video, and then they trash it and destroy and put it on the beggining. Simple.

So infuriating. Whats worse is they sometimes film the "putting it back together" first, then trash it and film the cleaning it up. Meaning at the end it doesn't work, but they haven't paid for parts. 😑

Also, you can tell that isn't the same back 9:20 . The one in the previous scene had a lot more scuffs (from the sloppy dremel handling) and the noodles were sanded much smoother. They used a second back and just glued some noodles to it before painting it.

Oh the thing I hated the most with electronics is that dirt gets stuck in places you can't clean and no matter how you wipe, there are grooves that keep showing it's old and used. Nowadays, I can use toothpicks and antiseptic to clean those, but as a kid I always knew something old from new by those dirty parts around buttons and older tech loved grills too.

When I worked retail one of my co workers genuinely had this. The customer (without a word of lie) asked for "Halo for the DS for the Playstation 2". I had to do a double take on that one.

The same thing happens with these fake animal rescue videos, sometimes it's the same animal being "rescued" (read: abused) thorough 4 different channels.

That's what I was thinking while watching these videos, they are done by some south-east Asian guy claiming to do this rescuing/restoration sort of deal when they have other channels restoring the same exact thing, or just doing the process of restoring backwards, like you said with the rescuing channels

Id rather have them do this than the "Animal Rescue" they do, which is just substituting out the "PlayStaion Gameboy" for a dog or cat. It was covered by a few KZfaqrs a lil while back - Nick Crowley, specifically, but be warned, its pretty upsetting. YT did nothing at the time, and Im sure continue to do nothing about them.

It honestly looked like bits of plastic resin with glue. I have no idea why anyone would think that raw resin beads glued together would look good after being painted. I would imagine that some automotive bondo body filler could be used to repair that hole, especially if he was planning to sand it down and paint it afterwards from the start.

I doubt it, that would require more effort. The whole point of faking this stuff is to put in as little effort as possible. It's way easier to just film yourself taking apart a broken thing and show off a different one after.

I was going to make the same comment. I worked for nearly ten years in an avionics maintenance workshop and we all found isoprop next to useless for any heavy soiling for exactly the reason stated as an advantage; it simply evaporated too quickly so tended just to redistribute the contamination rather than removing it. Unfortunately,. the cleaning solvents we had previous used had, one by one, been banned because of toxicity or other ill effects (including environmental). When I first started they were just phasing out carbon tetrachloride (which was foul stuff anyway) and replacing with Inhibisol (which was my favourite having a good cleaning efficacy and a fast but not limiting evaporation rate--incidentally, not to be confused with the current 'OS' Ozone Safe version). That was then superseded by Arklone P (not as good as Inhibisol as it evaporated too rapidly--banned as a CFC, similar to Freon) and finally Isopropyl Alcohol. For the heaviest soiling we went for a bucket of soapy water and a scrubbing brush followed by a rinse in clean water then a sluice with isopropyl and a nice long drying period. Later I worked in IT and we would 'recondition' grotty keyboards with a similar method--bucket of soapy water, scrubbing brush and lengthy drying. Never had a failure and some went through the process a number of times over the years. Power off, batteries disconnected, capacitors discharged and a good drying period.

I live in Brisbane and that is how we recovered a huge amount of electronics after the floods earlier this year. Your put a hose over things until you get the mud out, dry them completely using fans, air con and time, then depending on what it is, electrically check and clean individual boards, then fire it up and hope for the best!

@@MrPaulMorris A keyboard is a bit different than a full function circuit board. The problem with water is that you can form oxidization and rust on smaller metal components. Alcohol is neutral and will not do that. It usually won't cause immediate issues/brake it immediately. But it will effect overall longevity if integrated metal wiring is compromised. You can do it. I wouldn't recommend it.

@@Expertspecter Corrosion does not occur instantaneously and the risk from washing is no more than from exposure to atmospheric moisture--which will take place over a considerably longer period. Washing of assemblies was included in our training and permitted in work instructions. Complexity of assembly is not really a factor so long as drying is complete before powering up. As I mentioned, this was used in critical avionics systems. . .
