This is my personal tiny ULCANS net over my helmet, hanging in front of my face, with the NODs on but pods hinged outward. So my face is totally visible, just obscured by the net, and with the extra bonus of the NODs being a net holder, keeping it away from my face.
Do not expect an "it's magic! I can't see him at all!" because I am moving a lot to not bore everyone, and really am just standing there in front of god and everyone all of like 20-30 m away with a magnifier no less. It's not getting all the benefit, it's zoomed and focused on me, but is a demo of the principles of detection, etc.
Starts with me behind an evergreen. This is how lots of vision breakup works. Thermal can see even tiny hotspots, but at distance, with hot rocks and bunnies and so on, if you don't move, that's not a human.
When I stick out, ignore the body as I only have the scrim on my helmet. Notice how if you only look at the head it's not clear what it IS. Keep watching when I pull it up and expose my face, now THAT is visible without the camo. Notice how the distance the camo was from my face served to blur the hot spots visible through it, etc.
