@C3Rl3 5 жыл бұрын
@@pgk1940 yeah they appear to be, but one that material is fuck beyond belief from being heated to white hot, and its thin as fuck. Even from the (obviously fake) cut out in the first of the video, only 2 whole threads are cut into material that is not gonna fail. Also all that metal that is pressed out is trash now, with microscopic holes in it.
@pgk1940
@pgk1940 5 жыл бұрын
@@C3Rl3 I don't think that this was ever suggested as a method for bridge construction, any more than self-drilling or sheet metal screws are. Just by looking at the thickness of the material should make it obvious that this is intended for light-weight applications, regardless of how two materials were connected to each other, including welding. Your claim that "material is fuck beyond belief from being heated to white hot" does not support your implied claim to any expertise in the matter. If simply heating steel would completely destroy it's integrity, we would not be able to weld. If you're referring to the first couple of seconds in the video as "obviously fake", that's an animation! Regarding the rocking, neither method would be able to withstand that. I'm well aware of the limitations of threaded inserts, having used them in many, many applications, and they would not be able to handle that, nor were they ever intended to, anymore than this method would be able to, and I think it was a mistake for the maker of this video to imply that it would. Take a look at spot welds that are subjected to rocking or vibrations! I don't think that this will put other methods of fastening out of business, including threaded inserts or welding, but I do believe that it's a quick and cost effective method suitable for a lot of applications.
@mysock351C
@mysock351C 5 жыл бұрын
Wont hold a lot of weight, but for light loads its sufficient (wire brackets, etc.). Keep in mind its harder than fuck afterwards from the sudden heating/cool down so the threads are pretty strong. Again all depends on what you want it for.
