That’s really cool. I only go out into the wilderness on 3 or 4 day trips, 4 to 5 times a year. Not nearly enough to justify the cost, but I’d REALLY love to have that kind of range.

I have an aux transfer tank on my sidecar. It's 1-1/2 times the volume of the main tank, and has an inline filter. I love the advantages (you mentioned in the last video) of being able to filter fuel in those remote locations, like when riding Baja before they put in the Pemex stations out in the middle of nowhere, and we had to buy gas out of drums in the back of someone's pickup (ute)!

Nice set up!! We still need to keep our secondary tanks disconnected here in the US on Gasoline/Petrol rigs. :(. I have a secondary on my 2020 Ram Hemi but need to stop the truck put the secondary hose in the main filler and turn the pump on. I could physically connect the two but our Smog Check guys might catch it when I go in and cause me grief. I'm in California too so a bit more regs then most.

Should you do a little rust proofing as you go along? Not sure what it's like in Australia but in Canada, a can of asphalt spray and some cavity wax would be well spent on the underside of your Jeep.

A sticky note on the steering wheel may be helpful when pumping so you don’t forget to turn off the pump and run it dry! Kind of like the right side note you had for Africa. I bet running the pump dry would burn it up. Great video.

Over filling a gas tank will cause liquid fuel to flow into the charcoal canister ruining it and damaging the two valves in the system. You will trigger a check engine light. Gets very expensive from there.

@@TheRoadChoseMe My wife is from Toledo, and her great aunt worked at the original Willis plant, assembling Jeeps during the war. I really enjoy your install videos and your thoughts on building the Gladiator for practical use. I am heading from Ontario, Canada to B.C for work, then up to Tuktuyuktuk, this fuel tank upgrade is on my list of things to possibly do. Thank you!!

That's high! I better stop complaining about our fuel prices here in Australia. My Troopy has a 180 litre tank (factory, standard) so that'd cost me ~AU$520 to fill it up in Holland. Ouch. Diesel here is about $1.49 at the moment which makes for a ~$270 fill which still feels like quite a lot.

Would you recommend an aux tank like this one or would you recommend one like the titan tank for a JKU. I’m looking at sometime in the future making a cross country trip from the US east coast up into alaska.

I see you still have the stock driveshafts. In your experience, are they sufficiently reliable for long overlanding trips in the bush, or will you be replacing them with stronger aftermarket shafts to reduce the chances of failure? Same question with the axle shafts? I do some overlanding in my JKU, but mostly I go rock crawling, and damaged both stock driveshafts and bent flanges on the rear axle shafts, so I wound up upgrading. If I start over again with a JT, it would only be for overlanding, and would like to know if these are components worth upgrading or not.

It's likely that by upgrading one part like a driveshaft, you're pushing the failure point to somewhere more expensive and complicated to fix, like your transmission, transfer case, or differentials.

You have a gasoline engine why on earth are you using a transfer pump? All you need is a switch left tank right tank. They should’ve supplied an in tank fuel pump with it you just run the line through the switch into the fuel line already there and you’re up and running.
@TheRoadChoseMe
@TheRoadChoseMe 2 жыл бұрын
Aux tanks never seen to work that way.. I'm no expert and don't know the reason for sure, though I'm assuming it's a few of things - 1. The stock in-tank pump would be prohibitively expensive. 2. Doing what you propose means cutting into the factory fuel lines.. which are kind of a hard plastic and not great to work with. That introduces the possibility of leaks, and it also means the whole job is absolutely permanent. 3. The factory fuel lines are very very hard to get to, and you'd probably have to drop the main tank to do so, which is not a small job. and 4. You wind up with a return line problem - which tank do you return into? again, do you want to cut and splice into the factory hoses?
