Today I’m in Koh Samui Thailand and I’ve found an absolute street food, or actually BEACH FOOD joint that I think you have to try on your next trip to Koh Samui.
For 69 baht - £1.60 / $2.00 at at ร้านปอเล บางมะขาม Porlay Samui you can have as much beachside curry with khanom jeen as you want as well as a dessert. For an extra 25 baht, I’d suggest getting some of the excellent gai tod (fried chicken) on offer here.
at ร้านปอเล บางมะขาม Porlay Samui is located directly on the beach with unrivalled in koh samui and offers what i think is the best value street food, or in this case BEACH FOOD that ive found on the island.

It's my favorite dishs.😋 Khanom Jeen has 2 types of noodles. One is fresh noodles, the other is fermented. It can be noticed from the color and smell. Fresh noodles are whiter and do not smell of fermentation. As for the curry, there are many variations, but the uniqueness of southern curry is the Tai Pla curry, which has a hot and spicy taste. The central part is curry with coconut milk and Numprik(Numprik is palace style) There are about 6 main curry in Kanom Jeen to choose from but more can be found.

I have found that the Thai people are great in explaining what the food is and what is actually in the different meals. Even though I have visited Thailand on many occasions I still struggle with overly spicy food.

The sweet sticky gravy mung bean dessert is similar to the one from Singapore and Malaysia, but we don't add coconut milk, we eat it with pa tong ko, fried fritter ..

Yeah! I found that place in December last year, had to order the wings twice(soo good)) but missed the eggs!!! ..and the desert so I guess we came to late

I still have yet to try kanom jeen. Fermented anything is right up my alley though. I was planning on giving it a go at Che Mui in Maenam but I think I'll hit up this place instead especially for that view.

Damn looks so good, my brother. Everything about this looks incredible.. not to mention the view.. someone needs to invent a way you can get to turn on the smell-o-vision so you'll be able to smell all the delicious food you take us too.. ps I'm digging the hat too, so rare seeing you wear one

That was my favourite side of the island, for views, at least. I used to frequent a little place just up the road from there called For Rest Bar, but most of the places along that road were awesome. It's just a shame the nightlife on that side of the island is a little too quiet. Out of interest, what were you filming this on, the views when you're eating, seemed really really sharp, a lot sharper than your normal vlogs, at least the stuff in the foreground, anyway. Looks like very similar to the Portrait mode on the iPhone, but I thought that only worked when taking photographs.

Heh Gary, all khanum jean needs a pinch of salt. Try it next time. Just a pinch of salt. Use a chopstick to dip the tip in salt. Salt that stick to the chopstick would be enough. It would raise the flavor to another level.

Classic form here duchess! "Helen would like this" and "it's just like mango sticky rice without the mango...or the sticky rice" 😂 Looks like a great spot though. Can't say Samui appeals to me at all but I'll pin it in case I end up there somehow in the future 👍

I love watching your video…… one thing I do not like is when you compare with other places…. You are supposed to express your true taste of that (place) but never compared to others…..ingredients are different from each location and cities…. Even the fish sauce is different from each region…..

@@theroamingcook It was great! Didn't eat at any resorts or tourist restaurants my whole stay there. Went on my motorbike to discover spots like this one. That's the only way to do it!
