I love this song 🎵 ❤️, and the lyrics. This is a different style and sound that is awesome. They are always making killer tunes. They always push themselves to be different and unique and original. They always kerp rock and roll alive. Keep rockin and rolling boys.

This is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard in my life. It’s not even really A SONG, it’s mainly an audio commentary on Issei Sagawa set to an ultra dated Miami Vice muzak dance piece. I hate the talking Mick does in the song more than almost anything. The production is also terrible. You listen to this thing and it’s carbon-dated; you just know right away that it’s from late 1984, and it sticks out like a sore thumb caught in a car door.

A clip from Basketcase is at the beginning...the horror fan in me just loves that. Oh and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre homages as well, and Mick commenting about the movie and reacting as if he was in a horror movie in a sardonic manner, definitely getting a Scream vibe from the latter. And Keith hacking the door with a chainsaw and peering through it...The Shining, anyone?

Truth is stranger than fiction We drive through there everyday I wanna dance, I wanna sing I wanna bust up everything Be number one, yeah! I wanna dance, I wanna sing I wanna bust up everything And have some fun I can feel it everywhere Feel it up above Feel the tension in the air There is too much blood, too much blood Too much, yeah, too much blood, a'right Did you ever see 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre'? Horrible, wasn't it? You know people ask me, "Is it really true You know where you live in Texas Is that really true what they do around there, people?" I say, "Hey, now everytime I drive through the crossroads I get scared there's a bloke running around With a fuckin' chain saw Oh, no, he's gotta cut off me Oh no no! Don't saw off me leg, don't saw off me arm" When I go to the movies, you know I'd like to see something more romantic You know like, 'An Officer And A Gentleman' Or something, something you excite the wife too You know what I mean? I wanna dance, I wanna sing I wanna bust up everything And have some fun I wanna dance, I wanna sing I wanna bust up everything And make some love I can feel it everywhere, feel it up above Feel the tension in the air There is too much blood Too much blood, alright! I knew Keith Richards was good with a guitar, a song, a needle, a cigarette and a Jack Daniels bottle, but I wasn't aware of his masterful talents with a chainsaw 03:10

and its odd the guitar work is NOT keith richards on this song... even though this is literally one of the best the stones ever did yet so few fans know it exists.

DressUpYourPet2 = I find no reason to disagree with you. Keith and Mick were just not getting along at all, and this is probably one the top 5 songs where Richards was given a writing credit where it doesn't sound like he had any input on the song at all. Kind of like "Time Waits For No One' which I feel, musically speaking, was written by Taylor.

Although I've always liked this track, I always felt this was the Stones tryna jump on that "Thriller"-style horror theme at that time. Especially with this video.

There's actually a thriller book called "the killing song" in wich a journalist is trying to catch a serial killer following a chain of musical clues left by the killer... This song is featured when a victim is killed in "Paris", her "head was cut off" and the body was found in "the bois de Boulogne".. It's really interesting check it out.

BTW, FYI the horns on this song and video are by C.H.O.P.S., a horn section used by the early rappers/hip-hoppers when they still had musicians backing them up. No sampling. And when rap was fun, not gangsta or porno.

So many 60s-70s classic rockers did 80s sounding pop songs, but it's interesting that "Start Me Up" was the Stones only major 80s hit. Ones like this should've been more popular too.
