I used to be quite timid, so I wasn't talking a lot and didn't notice those bad habits I had taken. Until one day at work, I essentially had to speak the entire morning, and I noticed how much I was speaking in a low voice, with frequent fries, and how my voice got tired very quickly, even hurting a bit. By the time I had to do it again, i happened to have seen your "Find your natural speaking voice" video, and I had also started singing lessons. So I reminded myself regularly to keep my voice not too low and avoid fries, and it went *all* smooth. I was still tired, but just mentally this time. 😋

My posture causes serious pain in my chest at the end of a teaching day. I realised that I tend to protrude my head forward when I speak to a group of people. Have you got a strategy to help? Thanks so much. You are amazing!

Thank you for the video! It was very useful become aware of these common habits. I have a suggestion for a video, sort of the role of the body when singing. Like how does posture impact singing, I have pretty bad posture sometimes and I think its not good. Or can you help your singing by stretching, warming up and moving around. It is interesting for example how pretending to throw something may help reaching a high note. It seems like theres alot to the topic!

Thank you so much!! Why can't I avoid clearing my throat even if there is nothing there my voice won't come out otherwise... I really want to stop doing it, it's awful and doesn't feel right, thank you again for your teaching!

Hi Rocío, I do remember this feeling myself, and how frustrating it is to feel like you have to clear your throat. I found it to be more of a mental block than physical in the way you describe it. If your warm up your voice with trills and buzzing do you face the same issue? It could be a good idea to see an ENT just to make sure everything is alright❤️

@@singgeek thank you very much! I'll try to warm up as you suggest. I'm pretty sure there's nothing physically wrong with my throat because it always happens when I feel nervous, thank you so much!

It doesn’t. I believe she means that she was doing it a lot so using only a lowered larynx is not healthy. I know as I was told the exact opposite. I speak with a raised larynx most of the time, especially to my students and friends. So I was given exercises by a speech pathologist to learn how to use both a lowered and raised larynx, as this is the healthy thing to do. (Look at it like going to the gym and only exercising your biceps and not your triceps, you need to exercise both in order to have equally trained muscles). Hope this helps (english is not my first language so I hope it makes sense) :)

Re: throat clearing What do you recommend if there is actually phlegm in your throat that is impeding the free vibration of your vocal chords?

Hi. Thanks for the great video. You talked about it, but can one speak for hours and still keep their voice in decent shape, or is rest the one and only cure, other than what you said? Thanks again.
@singgeek
@singgeek Жыл бұрын
Hi Stefano, this is such a relevant question. Since your vocal folds are made up of organic material they will need rest at some point, but if you use good technique it is my own experience that you can do a full day of speaking (for hours) and then the rest you get when you sleep is enough to restitute. Does this answer your question?

Hello Singgeek, When i'm singing, why i can't add or put an emotion to the song?I hope you will answer my question asap.
@singgeek
@singgeek 11 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for your question. In my experience there are two “ways” to sing with more emotion. Either by tapping into your own emotion by singing something that really relates to you. I find that sad songs are easiest to begin with because they tend to affect how you sing. The second way is to go about it in a technical way by practicing soft singing, vocal fry, and resonant projection. Then look at your lyrics and apply those techniques in different places to convey emotion. Hope it helps 😊

Unfortunately, I've made a habit of doing all of these things over the last 7 years of my life. I have noticed a staticy feeling and uneven tone in my voice when I sing that I don't remember having when I was younger. Do these bad habits cause permanent change or damage to the voice if done too often overtime?
@singgeek
@singgeek Жыл бұрын
Hi Jas, thank you for your very relevant question. I have had students in similar situations who were able to return to the voice they once had by unlearning the bad technique they had build up over the years. As for myself, when I stopped doing the bad habits my voice began to feel better and better over time, so for me the daily strain has not let to any kind of permanent damage. I suggest you give yourself a month of speaking healthily to see if you feel a difference in your voice, and if you do not, then it is a good idea to see an ENT to get an assessment of the health of your vocal folds.

I personally lift weights with my vocal chords instead of with my arms etc. This has kept my voice tip top. Think “The Little Mermaid”- has got me and my gentle as a dove voice through much in life.
