Went from 24 boxes of Christmas to 2 boxes; large house to half the size! Love decluttering and downsizing( in older age).

Oh, wow, can I relate to you! I used to have 16 totes...big totes...but I have decluttered over the last 3 years to 6 totes. I have given decorations to newlyweds, college kids, first time homeowners. That makes me feel good when these people are so excited. I intend to declutter further this year. I think 4 totes for me would be plenty. I enjoyed your video.

One tip I’d recommend, is to store candles and items like that either separately or in the house. We stored our stuff in the garage. Worked perfectly, EXCEPT for the candle that melted over everything in one box.

Also, don’t store snow globes in the garage. I found this out the hard way!

7:38 get a white tiered tray so you can have 1 to use all year long. Cookies would only cover up the snowflakes anyway!

We had 36 boxes and bins, plus 3 small trees, a large tree, and some large gift bags filled with Christmas stuff. In fact, I just finished decluttering our Christmas stash for the first time in 45 years. Only one box of decluttered items to take to the thrift store. I gave the rest away. I didn't include my collection of Christmas books. I'm sure I could fill a few bookcases. That will be huge project for next year maybe. I also didn't include Christmas stuff my hubby keeps on his shelves in the basement. I have no doubt that would fill at least one more bin. So yeah...it's a lot. But it was worth it to declutter now. I'll be posting after I edit.

800 sqft condo. 2 bins. 1 for regular tree decorations/ lights. The other 1 is half filled and has a bag of sentimental ornaments, our stockings, and the window Santa lights. So 2 bins but really 1.5 bins worth of stuff. The party trays/ etc we have are all white and stored in a hutch so we use them year round

Well, tonight we fly out to our new home and we downsized to on POD. After living here in Alaska for 45 years... I am now downsized to ONE shoebox! HAHA

I have 2 100L tubs. 1 holds the christmas tree & some fragile stuff like christmas mug and soft stuff i can squish in and around the tree like tinsel. And the other tub is just shoeboxes of ornaments and the wreath and stockings and other baubles etc. So everything chrostmas including the lights and EVERYTHING haha are in those 2 tubs. Tablecloth napkins christmas crackers like christmas biscuit tins the cookie cutters gingerbread house making set. For real everything. Very happy with that amount. I dont have kids mind you but its 3 peoples worth of stuff in those x2 tubs basically one since the tree takes up like the entire other one. Im very happy with the amount though. I wouldnt be averse to having another tub for kids or like have a bit extra christmas stuff since my christmas is fairly minimal we decorate the table/formal dining room and the christmas tree/main bedroom area. Since thats where we spend most of our time but it doesnt interfere with liek day to day stuff and having the formal dining room be like proper lovely decorated is always super fun and having the christmas tree twinkle lights on when your in bed is the best with some carols playing it really has that festive element that really brings out the spirit of it. Almost everything is from my childhood too so i havent bought anything besides lights and a second hand nutcraker since i was a child and most was bought for me. Maybe grab a fresh line of tinsel since they wear out and get scraggly pretty fast. But yeah its great course im australian too so our christmas isnt the insanity of north america and is more subdued european version and then even more so because its summer here and we have our own traditions that dont include chrstmas jumpers etc 😂 Two bins isnt my limit but im also not looking to grow it ir anything ive actually decluttered it even further with what i dont use such as like older than me felt velvet sorta 50s-80s vibes ornaments that have been through the wringer 😂

I have 2 Huge and 2 Medium totes plus 3 large items that don't fit in totes. Our house is small so we've never used all of it at once. I have 4 themes and we choose 1 or 2 each year. We have Peanuts Christmas (complete with mini tree), Mickey Mouse, Traditional, and All Blue to choose from.

A couple years ago, I got absolutely FED UP with glass ornaments constantly getting broken and I got rid of all of them except a couple from my childhood that I’ll hold onto until my kids are older. I’m so glad I can just relax and enjoy my tree now without worrying about my kids and cats breaking things.

Wow! This makes me feel better about how much I have! 🤣🤣🤣 No judgment here! My mom always went all out growing up and it was my FAVORITE and not something I will ever look down on anyone for! If you can’t go all out for Christmas when can you?!?

I got started decluttering for Christmas in July but after I get my tree up and home decorated…I’m going to declutter more. I’ve still got too much. I like your ideas of taking photos. It will serve as a good reminder.

Over the last 4 years of decluttering... my Christmas storage is down to 3 medium sized bins, 2 wreath size bins and the Tree box. I am quite happy with the amount, but know I will also somehow find more to declutter as I go into each bin. 😉

I may have 5 or 6 bins for Christmas. I went through books last year when I was putting things out(day after Thanksgiving or so). I have a few additions this year, but trying to be selective. I have been told that if you put candle sticks in freezer before using them, they will not drip. So, I'm putting that to use this year. As I purchased a few candle holders(accidently) and want to use them.

You did a great job of donating a few things. Every year you can reevaluate your storage , decor tastes, etc. You will find new items constantly refreshing/upgrading your decor, thus displacing the old. You're right about not needing something if it has not been used in the past couple seasons (unless it has special meaning/family heirloom). Can you remove those mercury trees from the domes?

I donate to a local mission thrift and they will take seasonal decor after the fact and keep it til the following year. I remember seeing some of the things that didn't sell last year back on the shelves this year..

We put up 22-25 trees all over our house. About half are 4-6 ft and the rest are smaller. Plus the one big main one. So each tree has at least 1-2 tubs that go with it. Plus some other things that sit around the tree. So we have at least 30 tubs plus outdoor tubs. It’s ridiculous but like you said “I LOVE decorating for Christmas.” I’ll start this coming weekend and work on it for the next few weeks.

I downsized from a house to a senior apartment. I have one Christmas bin. I know there are things in there that always remain in the bottom, my intention is to get rid of them. I would like to have a smaller bin since my storage area is very small.

I have have close to the same amount of bins but my bins are bigger. I feel like this year will be the year I get rid of some of it. I too struggle with the kitchen plates and platters. I haven't used them in a few years so they are out. It's time if it hasn't been used in years it's time for it to go.

We’re in a rental and all of our Christmas is in storage. We’re going to a hotel for Christmas this year that is decked out for the holidays. But when we move into our house next year I know I’ll be doing this again. I did a lot of it last Christmas because it was just weeks before we closed on the sale of our home so I don’t anticipate getting rid of too much when I decorate next year, but ya never know. I also don’t decorate until after thanksgiving. Have you ever heard the Brandon Heath song “The Day After Thanksgiving”? I think your husband would like it lol

Your decluttering has actually turned out to be a bad influence on me! 😂 I might treat myself to a few new pieces this year as we have just 1 large bin and then some outdoor lights and a lego gingerbread house in their original boxes. For a 1700sq ft house. I'm not a total Grinch I promise!

Let's put it this way... I packed up my whole house in order to move this summer. The storage bins containing decorations outnumbered those containing actual household items two to one. Yeah. I need to get rid of some stuff!

I did go thru mine once and still need to repack and get rid of more. Donate most of the items to a resell store and donations will go to pet rescue .
