I been putting together a swimbait rod and reel combo on a budget; the rod is the Daiwa DXSB /Heavy/Fast action 8' /2 - 8oz and the reel is the Piscifun Alijoz 300 with the power handles, under $200 combo paired together, the reel has 30lbs of drag.

I love my Lew’s Super Duty 300. I like this better than my Tranx 300. The dual cast control is better magnetic and centrifugal brakes and it’s more compact with the same line capacity 14/190. Dual bearing supported pinion and full aluminum frame with 20lbs of drag. Phenomenal Reel especially with braid to leader.

Currently I only have 1 swimbait set up. It's been great last 2 & half years. Its a Diawa Tatula 7' 9" Heavy mod-fast, rated up to 6oz with a Diawa Lexa 300 spooled with 20lb floro. I fish everything on it from 8" mag drafts, Klash 9's, 8" shad glides, defiant 210's, 9" Nessie, couple different savage gear line through soft baits. The rod is parolbolic enough for treble hook glides but also plenty backbone for big single hooks too. I got lucky that rod throws both hard & soft baits so well. It's caught me all my biggest largemouth. My 3 biggest so far is 8.6 - 9.3 - 11.4 The goal now is to catch a teener, gonna be really hard to do but I'm trying! Nothing more fun than throwing big baits in the kayak.

Don't sleep on the Piscifun Alijoz 300. I bought one to test out to compete with the Cardiff and it's an absolute banger. Casts far and strong, smooth retrieve.

I have so many combos, a penn international 965, on a fenwick glass, a daiwa prorex 400, and i just got a tranx 400. Even tho i like the tranx, its beautiful, smooth and casts great, but the drag goes from like zero to maxx in like 2 clicks of the star. The diawa drag on daiwa prorex is almost 2x the drag at 30lbs compare to the 18lbs on the tranx

I have 1 Tatula 300 I bought last spring great reel but I mainly use the Tatula 150 & 200 they’re light, smooth and cast great. Been using them for 3 years now and zero problems. My favorite is the Tatula Type-HD but they’re hard to find in really good shape, the one’s for sale in Japan are just beat to pieces, those guys are tough on gear.

I would like to add a Lews Super Duty. I was skeptical at first, but I was swayed by its cast ability and the drag is stout. I have all reels except the Deps Diawa Z. I love the CC and the Anteres DCMD both are staples, but the Lews Super Duty has been impressive. One other reel I enjoy for a smaller 1-3oz bait is the Zillion HD 1000 Love the content Geoff Keep at it!

For me, the Super Duty 300 is a solid price point reel. I've abused mine for several years, regularly serviced. It's pretty much a dedicated backup now, does not feel as smooth as my 18 Zillion HD or Z2020s.

My Tatula 300 7.1 felt a bit too slow when I tried to fish the 250 fast and way too slow with a wild beat. Would it work for a mother or hinkle? Looking to step it up to the next class of baits this year. Thanks to you!

I have a punching rod rated for 2 ozs, i dont plan on going past 1.5 ounces same with my crankbait rod (ones going to be for glides and other for softies). would 100 size reel be good for that or should i go for a 150 size? for my softies i plan on using the megabass dark sleeper,sleeper gill, Huddleston deluxe bluegill, savage gear bluegill,RAID Japan Osakana Swimmer Swimbait, 6 inch magdraft,etc. would 17lb test be good for both rods?

Love the list King! Only reel outstanding here for serious honourable mention, is the Gancraft Mago 003. That fkn tank of a reel deserves all the hype even though I feel it gets slept on BIG. The amount of 30-44 inch musky I hook on that reel and it still feels brand new, its simply mind boggling.

I picked a daiwa tatula 300 and a mega bass leviathan 7’11 based of your review on hook up tackle. What baits would you recommend on it? I’m worried about regular flouro because I live in heavy pike / musky waters would you recommend braid to leader ? I run 80 pound braid to 80 pound leader on my musky setup but I feel like it’s overkill for bass

I love my tatula 300 for small bucktails and lures up to 3oz and I use a prorex 400 for 3oz-8oz, using mag break and not having to adjust the tension when changing lures is one of the best things. A lot of people are sleeping on diawa and go straight to tranx
@graemekulas2784
@graemekulas2784 Ай бұрын
@@justinszuch6184 For real. The Prorex, Tatula 300/400, and the Lexa TW 300/400 are all top tier musky reels. I see more young guys using Daiwa and more old heads using Shimano. Probably because Tranx/Calcutta were the only options for so long.
@Outofluckpikefishing
@Outofluckpikefishing Ай бұрын
I use a 201M curado for 1-3oz, tatula 300 for 1- whatever. Only pike fishing in Scandinavia. Isn't the width of the spool the only difference between a tatula 300 and 400? It's unusual here to use anything larger than 300 for all pike fishing. We seem to use the size of reel to type of fish instead of lure weight as it seems you do on the other side of the pond. Why, I don't know. Neither what's more correct.
@graemekulas2784
@graemekulas2784 Ай бұрын
@@Outofluckpikefishing The 400 has a bigger frame and wider spool. I use 45KG braid for the heavy 350g+ lures so the added spool capacity is welcome. And if I'm using the standard 36KG braid for musky the added spool width keeps the retrieve speed more steady throughout the cast which is nice for blades and glide baits.

I'm surprised that reel companies don't make reel arbors to put on spools to increase the diameter so that you can only spool the line you want on, no need for useless backing that way. Also, don't have to put up with the connecting knot that is aggravating.
