Given the track record of EVs, other than someone who is in the business with something to gain, purchasers do not like to be the source of experimentation for OEMs. Customers buy from people who they trust and lack of credability is now an issue for car mfgs and dealers.

They are expensive because that is what people wanted. They wanted SUVs with the extras. Just a few years ago they had all types of inexpensive cars that anyone could buy but people thought they were too good for them. The automakers cancelled all of their cheap cars for that reason. I will say this if you want a big roomy SUV or Truck you are going to pay the price because they will always cost more than a car

Totally agree! In my country the base starts at over $35k and the GT at $42k. Thats before dealer fee's and our sales tax. So basically you can't even get into a base one for under $40k out the door anymore and that's the base model - the minimum spec you'd want with the LSD is about $45k with tax and fee's. You kinda know the demographic that Mazda is going for as it prioritizes marketing lane departure warning and auto highbeamsm etc. It's not the fun affordable zippy little corner carver anymore. Well, it truly is, but there's a reason you typically see 65+ year olds plodding around in new auto trans ones almost exclusively.

The Jeep Cherokee has suffered from reliability issues, especially electrical and electronic issues, since its introduction in 2014. For years, its 9-speed automatic was a rough shifting, gear-hunting transmission. What probably dunked the Cherokee in 2023 was Jeep ceasing to offer the 3.2 V6 engine. Jeep's 2.0L turbo does not have a very good reputation for reliability or longevity. By comparison, the 3.2 V6 wasn't too bad. And, of course, price. Back in 2019-20, one could buy a pretty loaded new Cherokee Trailhawk in the $30K range in actual out-the-door price. In 2020, I looked at 2019 in perfect condition with under 26K miles that I could have bought for $19K from a Jeep dealer.

I had a 2019 3.2 and never had any issues with it. I did not like the way the motor performed in traffic though. I’m much happier with the 3.6 in the Gladiator, but it is so much less efficient.
@Stuka87
@Stuka87 10 ай бұрын
The "gear hunting" is a complaint from people that don't understand how transmissions with a lot of gears work. They are intended to shift a lot to keep the engine in its torque band. The people that complain are used to 3-4 speed autos that shift to a gear and for the most part stay in that gear for a large speed range.

My neighbor across the street went from a Hyundai Santa Fe to the Jeep TrailHawk and absolutely loves it. She bought it right before her husband (my good friend) passed away. He was a big car freak always switching out cars every year or so. She sold his Challenger 392 after he passed. I remind her every month to drive down the dirt road on her way to the car wash and put it into 4 wheel drive to keep the transfer case and front diff lubed up. She is such a great friend of the family.

I have a 2019 Cherokee TrailHawk with the V6. I’d say I like it but don’t love it but it’s really hard to find an SUV with 4 Low, a rear locker, and almost 9 inches of ground clearance for a similar price. The transmission is annoying at times but not terrible. My biggest complaint is probably the size. I wish it was a little bigger for all my fishing gear.

Jeep products (and for that matter Stellantis products) seem to be victim of dealers thinking they need to "collect" vehicles on the lot and not sell them - apparently they haven't gotten the "memo" that most of the supply chain and inventory issues are (mostly) over and it's time to start making deals again. When a moderately equipped Renegade is topping $40k (based on addendums) it's time to wax up the water skis and prepare to jump the shark... I just laugh because I'm probably not going to buy one anyways but would consider a RAM truck or a Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Truck but the prices are just too darn high...
@buffalodiesel1809
@buffalodiesel1809 10 ай бұрын
been a ram owner for years.... not that we liked them... over all they were a cheaper price. Now rams can easily top $90,000.oo bucks. There must be plenty of Xtupid buyers out there who get an 84 to 96 month loan on a truck that might only hold together for 5yrs. The U.S. FED is propping up these companies... and the big three know their JUNK well eventually cost so much to repair... that customers are forced to pay slave prices. UNFORTUNATELY there is no competition. U.S. manufacturers have the GOV support to restrict production.

They wouldn’t necessarily have to make the Miata bigger overall, they just need to modify the interior slightly. They can reposition the seat tracks and compromise a couple of inches of trunk space, then maybe add an inch or so of leg room to the footwell. People don’t generally buy those for their trunk capacity. They buy them to track and cruise around in. Trunk space is just a bonus and you can pack light for long trips.

@@berniemadoff7837 I agree it’s been a few years now. This is just type of car that probably won’t compromise handling and rigidity to make more room. They could tweak this platform a little bit, but I can’t see Mazda dumping much into their one niche car. They only sell a few hundred per month, maybe a thousand sales a month. I like Toyotas. I rented a Camry a couple years ago. Drove it from here in Myrtle Beach, SC to Appleton Wisconsin in a day. That was probably 1,500+ miles with little fatigue. I’ve yet to drive a 4Runner or any of their truck based vehicles, but despite the low mpg, I know they must be comfortable. I also drove a Highlander last year, it was comfortable.

New takes longer to sell because Mazda upped the price. Notice it wasn't listed on the Used car list as being tough to sell. In fact when I went to figure out how much my 2016 Club soft top was worth the next week had dealers calling me everyday trying to pry my car away from me. Same thing when the pandemic hit my local Mazda dealer would send me a monthly letter stating how much they would give for my car.

They are a belligerent nation and I believe we will ultimately be embroiled in a serious conflict, either economic or military. The more manufacturing we transfer there, the stronger they become. When it comes to many consumer products, I have no other options than to purchase something manufactured in China but with cars, I do. I will purchase something else.

For practical purposes what's the point of buy a vehicle with a bunch of bells and whistles that you're probably not going to use. I went that route once. I sat in my driveway one day with my fully loaded 2020 Cadillac CTS realized that I don't used most of options, touch screen settings or barely use the GPS and the cameras. I don't imagine base model 5.0 manual mustangs as being the issue with sitting on a lot for long. They are completely in an unmatched sweet spot when it comes to dollars/HP, so having it specified as such is unrealistic. They sell themselves. What is staying on the lot in the Mustang world are the bloated, heavily optioned cars that dealerships and manufacturers thought would sell like hotcakes. Well if you load up a Mustang, you get close to the realm of say a base model Corvette and a lot of other cars. Enough so that the loaded Mustangs price themselves out of the running. Try to find a base 5.0 with a stick. Lemme know about that big discount you're expecting. Cheers.

In those days if you have one chip to put in a car are you going to build a 25k car or are you going to put every option you can to build a 35k car. Take a look at dealer inventory of any model and you will find very few lower trim models. Take a kia telluride for example the start a little over 35k. You may find one in inventory aruond that price, but I guarantee you there will be around 10 with stickers about 50k. During the shortage people had to pay to get a car and it's left a bad taste in people's mouths.

I think the problems with the Miata are, as you said size, but I also don't think that it's doing well as a club racer. The older Miatas, whether new or used were excellent candidates for racing. It didn't take a lot of extra money to prep one for the track and there would be so many that they were sometimes raced as their own class.

The leaf and the Miata are both so long because of price. The leaf sold great when they did the $199 lease. That’s where it should be priced for being it’s nothing special. When you look at a 7 year old used car and it can do 30 miles on a full charge. That’s why it doesn’t sell.

The MX-5 Miata surprises me - when I've looked for another one (sold my RF when prices were insane during the lockdown and made bank) they're not easy to find (in any trim) and when you do they won't deal on them - I'm probably only in the market for one of these for another couple years as I'm getting up there in years and can't justify getting in and out of it. For whatever reason my 2 door Mini JCW is easy and it's much quieter on the road (less fun even JCW) then the MX-5 but more practical....

Speaking of Chevy mistakes. I bought a new Chevrolet Trailblazer in 2004. Body on Frame, terrific 275 hp inline 6 DOHC engine, 4WD, low range transfer case, towing package (6000 lbs), underbody protection, recovery hooks, etc. It is pretty good off road - would be even better if Chevy had evolved it with a rear locker/limited slip diff and 2 inches of lift. Love the car but after 225k miles I decided to get another primary vehicle (still have the TB as a utility vehicle, though). I would have definitely got another one - except Chevy punted on vehicles in this class. Got a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk instead in '21. At least Jeep didn't forget about its heritage.

What happens to all those old Teslas that nobody wants to buy or maintain? Does Telsa recycle them? Throw them in the recycle bin? Me I'd never buy a stellantis or Land Rover (owned by Tata motors) for their reliability issues. For the better part of a decade the Miata has outsold the Lexus RC, LC, Infiniti q60, Nissan Z (both new and 370 when that was around), Porsche Cayman and Boxster combined, Honda S2000, Alfa Giulia and 4c, Toyota Supra, BMW Z4, Mercedes SL, and it's mostly tied the 86/BRZ. Seems like the market is A-ok with the Miatas' value and price point. Every single one of those vehicles above are more powerful, some degree or another of faster in a straight line, and bigger. And yet if you've driven a Miata through the mountains or on a good windy backroad: as far as driving experiences go there's nothing like it for the price. It's not a cruiser/muscle car with a haircut, it's not a grand tourer, it's a roadster. Different experience altogether.

At 8:10, the most important part of the video was made without even knowing it. What kind of automotive future is there with EVs? Specifically, what kind of used market can we expect in the coming years, especially for those states that have set deadlines for banning new car sales of ICEs? IMO, it's going to be exactly like the smartphone market, and that is an extremely scary thought. First and foremost, because there is no used phone market, who wants a used phone? It's out of date, and nobody wants used technology. Machines-sure, you'll buy them used. But technology, not so much. It's throw-away merchandise. I don't really see how a used car market can survive and continue to exist with the full adoption of EVs. Manufacturers will stop supporting car designs after a few years and move on, leaving only a few more years of 3rd party refurbished parts. Battery and motor tech. keeps advancing and changing, so after 20 years, an owner will be SOL when a battery or motor fails. Plus, if buying a used car, the buyer will have to factor in the full cost of a new battery for the vehicle, so every used car will automatically have that cost, and batteries are not cheap. But that's left out of the value of the car, so car insurance will be totaling cars still worth $20k-$30k with possible battery pack damage from minor accidents because the battery packs are not serviceable and the Gov't has allowed the car manufacturers to build all EVs and hybrids like that for the past 20 years.

The '23 Mustang would be my choice as to the one to buy, but the GT Premiums I've driven are exceedingly painful when it comes to their anemic single digit fuel mileage (as reported in the dash screen) with somewhat spirited driving. With sedate (i.e., boring) legal limited freeway driving I managed to get about 17 mpg, which is about what I get with my relatively ancient '96 Porsche 993. When I was looking, some of the local dealers had new '23 GT Premiums as low as $40K, though most were still pricing the cars in the upper 40s. But the '23 GT Premium S550 would be the one I'd get...if I could get over the paltry fuel economy. Besides, the front face of the '24 Mustang seems to borrow too heavily from the face of the last Camaro; not exactly a look that any Ford guy (which I'm really not) would want. And even though I'm not a Ford fanboy, if I DO buy a Ford I don't want it to remind me and other car enthusiasts of a Chevy. As for the rest of the cars on your two lists; I can't ever imagine myself owning a Land Rover product. Everyone I know who's owned one has had more than their fair share of reliability woes. The Miata is the Miata; fun to drive in virtually all of its past and present iterations, but it's just not as special as it once was when the "affordable" sports car market was more their own. I've owned Nissans/Datsuns in the past and I think I've pretty much had my fill of them. Aside from a chance of owning a R34 generation of Godzilla or maybe a turbo 300ZX Z32, there aren't a lot of models that are bucket list-worthy. And besides, neither of those qualify to be on your lists. Most of the SUVs and CUVs are just forgettable to me, so they're not particularly appealing. The Cherokee was once the king of SUVs but past experience with older faulty and unreliable generations of them has tainted my thoughts regarding the name plate. The 300 however has a coolness factor even though sedans are (I think unfairly) currently passé in the overall eyes of the marketplace. I don't see myself owning one, but I do think that they're pretty good looking as sedans go and perhaps could be a muscle car-ish collectible in the future given the right spec and engine (HEMI V-8 all day long).
