I think another reason for Milk's flopping is how much they've increased their prices while they've simultaneously reduced the amount of product they actually give you.

I work at Ulta and we sell SOOOOO much Benefit. Their brow products, mascaras, and the Hula Bronzer are very popular with costumers and they always come to repurchase. A LOT of people absolutely love the Hula Bronzer and will tell me how it’s the only one they ever use. Same with the mascaras and brow products. The blushes they came out with last year are actually really great too! I think that while Benefit isn’t giving us too many new launches, they focus on their core products and maintaining the quality which is very important to their repeat consumers. And when they do release new products, they’re related to the products they already sell. So I don’t think they’re in a flop era, they’re in their Stable Era.

I respect the brands that just sell staple products, without relaunching, reformulating, or discontinuing stuff when they have a good thing going. The alternative is just... ew. Constant launches and discontinuing great products to make room for mediocre new ones, all under the pretense of "innovation" (which we all know is a lie). Also the model of constantly launching products just encourages overconsumption. Sorry you can't generate revenue without constant clout-chasing, maybe that should be an indicator that your brand just isn't that good.

Eveytime I visit my local Sephora ( in Thailand) I see people doing brows at benefits counter, it looks like they never ran out of customers. And their blushes always sold out in some shades. For Fenty I still see people gathering around its counter and swatching something, I think Fenty has such a wide range of products you'll end up getting something if you playing with their tester too much lol

I do say i love that dior is going out of their way to remove talc from all products and aiming to get that leaping bunny or equivalent certification status as well as the fact they’re were really kind when I emailed them inquiring about gluten and found out though not advertised they are gluten free products just not their selling point for marketing which I was like so grateful to find something luxe also caring about safety aka talc which if a product has talc is guaranteed has asbestos can’t mine it without it getting it in believe hbo was the one that did a documentary series on it and a girl got mesothelioma from her makeup being a dior counter makeup artist and tested her makeup and sure enough half her products had it so I think it was smart for them to reformulate to do any damage control on bad pr and not just ignore it or dismiss it as if it was untrue. Made me happy to see they found out newly discovered information about talc and took action.

PMG labs did sell (a share) to investors circa 2021. The reason why people think the brand is going down is because of the frequent sales they’re doing. Heck, at the end of August they did one where you could stack discounts and get mothership palettes for almost 70% off if you were playing the game correctly. At the same time, the brand is decreasing the quality of its products. The last two motherships are not made in Italy and don’t contain any of the “baked” “special formula” they became so famous for. The packaging is also becoming less luxe in very sneaky ways. The more boring colour stories everyone likes to complain about, are obviously done under the influence of their investors. Morthership 7 (?) divine rose I became an instant hit and was constantly sold out for a while and they’re still trying to replicate that with pink leaning palettes. But no, the boring colour stories have little to do with the brand going under, it’s more to do with the fact that you can always get discounts on their products and purchase them for less than products from brands such as ABH and Natasha Denona.

Honestly I don’t think any of these brands are necessarily flopping. I think it’s just shopping mentalities changing. I mean times are tough, people can’t justify spending as much as they used to on makeup. At the same time I think the “buy every release“ hype has ended. More customers are shopping intentionally and project panning/finishing product before they buy a new one.

I love that Natasha consistently releases unique palettes. Not every palette release is for me, but that's what I appreciate about the brand. Neutral lovers, color lovers, deep skin, light skin, there's something for everyone in her collection, and I prefer that over a brand that releases the same palette over and over with minor tweaks (talking to you PMG). That said, PMG blushes and bronzers break the Internet, so even if the palettes are boring to some of us, she still manages to bring the excitement elsewhere. Also, I'm sad about Lorac. Their fairytale forest palette deserved so much more hype, and all the palettes in that format were solid releases. I really wish they'd release more.

I don’t feel sorry for Milk. Their prices (especially compared to the amount of product you get) are ridiculous and they don’t match up to the quality. In the UK their new setting spray is £10 more expensive than Charlotte Tilbury for only 85 ml of product. That’s just embarrassing

It’s not about their palettes being the same, but rather that they are constantly running sales on their website. If you are even somewhat interested in makeup and the brand, then at this point you know that unless you’re an influencer chasing clout with being the first to talk about a product, you better wait for a sale to come up so you can get the product for much cheaper. Their products even turn up at TJ Max frequently at great discounts. Mostly their limited edition products, if I’m not mistaken. But still, they used to sell out and now they end up at TJ Maxx.

I do think ND and PM are flopping, maybe not in terms of hype, but definitely in terms of sales. Constant sales for PM, and the new influencer discount codes from ND suggest that to me. Benefit is like Mac. Workhorse products people actually can use up and repurchase regularly. Maybe nobody is talking them up, but the average consumer tends to stick with what they know and love and both those brands have kept the same products around for years. PM & ND focus on one and done purchases and most people don’t buy every launch. ND might be on the upswing with their concealer and the popularity of the Nude Palette but I think successful brands really need brow products, mascaras and foundations to keep consistent sales. In the real world, I think PM is too flashy for a lot of people and basic wins out.

I'm not sure I agree with ND. The affiliate codes though- ugh a couple of my favs are really trying to sell the brand to us. @lindsayhoffman2688
@lindsayhoffman2688 10 ай бұрын
@@gigi2k326 Yeah, the affiliate code in Canada is a scam. Sephora here doesn’t carry ND anymore (which also makes me think the brand is struggling) and she raised the prices of her products on her website by 15%…. Same amount as the “discount.” I’m just saying as someone who buys Benefit Gimme Brow over and over, I spend around $90 YEARLY on that product alone. (It’s like $30/each.) meanwhile, I bought the Nude palette from ND as my first purchase since the midi Glam came out. I’m sure this is common of a lot of people. Benefit gets $90 from me yearly and ND gets $90 from me maybe once every 2-3 years. Benefit gets a steady stream of income from people who don’t look elsewhere. How many people are dying to try brow products, you know, if you have on that works fine? And they’re products most women use regardless of makeup style. Meanwhile ND has to entice you all over again with each new launch and a has a smaller market with her colour stories because that’s all based on personal preference.

I think some brands calculate sales into their pricing model. Take ND, they have been increasing their prices in a sneaky way over the last months. Each new midi palette is a bit more expensive than the last. And they know that probably 80% of the clientele is going to purchase their products either with a discount code or in a sale. I’m sure that they have foreseen a 20% discount in their pricing and negotiations with retailers and still make nice profits.

With PML it feels like many other cosmetics companies, their prices keep going up and the quantity and quality keep going down. I am sure PML is going strong and will stay strong, but an eagle eyed redditor made a post (I think it was on r/beautyguruchatter a few weeks ago) saw the amount of product went down compared to years previously. I compared my older Midnight Sun (13.2 grams total) to my newer Huetopian Dream (12.9 grams total) and it's like, Heyyy. Why you skimping on us, McGrath? Plus the hardcore PML fans have noticed that newer palettes no longer so the special astral shades (undupeable by the way) and it's the regular mattes, shimmers, and toppers which has them frustrated.

So not innovative but damn are their brow products great and the packaging helps and makes it easier to use. Yes! Buxom lip polishes and lip creams are my favorite lip glosses of all time. The lip polishes have micro shimmer, while the lip creams have no shimmer. I love the cooling/tingling plumping sensation. It’s not overboard. For it being a lip gloss, it actually clings to the lips for quite a long time, without the formula being sticky. I’m a super fan of their lipglosses and always will be. I am a sucker for their seasonal lipgloss shades/yummy scents they come out with. I just want them all. The originally scent of the glosses is still nice as well. It just smells like a sweet mint to me. Another product I absolutely love is their wanderlust primer infused blushes. I have the shade, Seychelles, and I think it is my favorite blush I’ve ever used. It just goes with everything, and every season. Those types of blushes that look underwhelming in the pan, I usually find to be the most beautiful looking on the skin. It pretty much has built-in highlighter. The glow/radiance that the blush gives is not too much though. I really want to try the pink shade called Havana. I’ve hit major pan on Seychelles, I just love it that much. I’m determined to finish it entirely. I also loved their plump-line lip liners, before they turned them into a plastic roll up style pencil. I have several of the wooden sharpen able pencils. They are a thick pencil where you can line, or fill in the whole lip with it. I have always found that using a jumbo/thick lip pencil allows me to overline my lips way easier. I am not sure about the new version of them, but I’m open to trying them. They still have a few of the original lip liner shades.

Milk is getting a lot of hate right now, but I went ahead and did a check and their sticks (bronzer, blush, contour) are actually less per ounce than Fenty's Matchstix line. The packaging for the Fenty is definitely bigger, but I was shocked to see that the milk makeup price per ounce is $126, whereas the Fenty is $128. Packaging makes a huge difference in how we perceive value. I didn't buy any of the Milk makeup sticks from their former size, but currently they are definitely comparable in price to competitor brands like Fenty. Just something to think about.

No hate, but I feel like if a company is still running, they're not really flopping; our perception of what makes a brand successful is getting pretty warped, neither a brand nor a product can have their 15 minutes of fame forever, that spotlight is there to bring a much wider audience to that brand/ product than will ultimately love that brand/ product. When the spotlight goes away, those customers that were looking for that exact thing are going to stick around and that's what keeps a company going, not constantly releasing a gimmick that gives them another 15 minutes of fame which will ultimately be a "holy grail" or a staple, definitely-rebuying product for 20% of the people who buy it.

100% agree with you about fenty. This was actually the brand that got me into higher end makeup (I didn’t understand how to do makeup until I was 21) and their collections were so much fun in 2018. I kept my Moroccan spice pallet and the 2018 holiday collection. I was so confused when they stopped doing collections and tried smaller eyeshadow pallets which (in my opinion) weren’t exciting and from what I saw from reviewers, didn’t perform well I also LOVED the mattemoiselle lipsticks and was so sad they discontinued them. (I STILL can’t find an exact dupe for the Griselda shade) And the very first highlighter I ever bought was the summer collection. (The shade sandcastle is still my PERFECT shade, and that’s sadly discontinued as well) It seems the fun was lost (maybe the 2020 lockdown has something to do with it since people weren’t buying makeup as much) Also we still don’t have lip liners from the brand, but at least they made a better mascara. I would love to see the passion come back. I miss the hype of this brand. 2018 was Fenty’s year

I disagree with the ND and PM comments, I think the ND mini palettes and her midi palettes are great, good formula and color stories. Plus ND just released what I think is the best concealer ever. PM has a good following with people who want luxury products. Their palettes have a solid following along with their blushes and lip sticks. Benefit just released what is touted as one of the best mascaras by many influencers. I have not purchased it yet but plan to do so. They are a brand known for their brow products but this mascara release is exciting. Good video, Kelly!
