Hall effects joysticks don't develop joystick drift because they use magnetic sensors and their tracking is accomplished using a magnetic field, there's nothing to wear out with use. The funny part is in the old days, there were various experimentations with joystick types. The N64 used an optical sensor for its joystick. The part of the N64 joystick that wore out wasn't the sensor, but rather the apparatus that suspended the joystick to the case. The magnetic and optical sensors were more expensive which is why it stopped being used. It's nice to see a resurgence of the old sensors again.

You're so chill and pleasant! Great video! I got these joycons too, I was lucky to get a pre-order in January and they arrived a few weeks ago. I love how big and chonky they are, they're comfortable to hold, the buttons I think are great, and if I ever get burgled, I can beat the burglar into submission with my switch and these joycons!

If you've still got a GameCube controller lying around, try pressing those face buttons in comparison to The face buttons on these joy cons. It sounds like they're just trying to emulate the feel of the original gamecube face buttons. (A huge plus for me for literally the exact reason you mentioned, it makes games feel more relaxed. As an aside, I know the steamdeck is a little finecky with connecting with joycons as two separate controllers, have you tried pairing this controller to the steamdeck? Is it smart enough to recognize it as one controller?

heard about these from Castle Super Beast a week or two ago and immediately pre-ordered their next drop, can't wait until it comes in. The Gamecube was goat and its controller design is masterful. A bit disappointed to hear the buttons are a bit squishy, but not a dealbreaker.

The industry norm it seems like is clicky linear-style for less used buttons (start/select/home) like a mechanical keyboard, and rubber conductive membrane or dome-style for regular use buttons (A/B/DPAD). I'm actually surprised they went with clicky for the shoulder trigger buttons and would probably drive me nuts. If I could get a completely silent gamepad or joy-cons that'd make me a happy lad.

Hey Mike! First of all, fantastic video, your editing and camera presence are phenomenal and you truly seem like a swell guy! I'd like to respond to your Competitive Smash question and your Turbo questions. As an avid Smash player, I play with GC controller, and, when I tried using this controller, it just wasn't it. I would never pick this over a normal GC controller. However, for handheld Smash like Classic mode or whatever it is SO much better than normal Joy Cons, though, that can be said about most games honestly, these are just so much more comfy. For your Turbo question, honestly not a whole ton. Some games may have AFK strats for farming as long as A is being mashed. For example, there is an AFK money strat in Pokemon SV where you just spam the same attack over and over again and, as long as A is Turbo, you'll continuously do this until you manually stop it. There's also a shiny Pokemon hunt in Pokemon SwSh for the Fossil Pokemon. If you look up AFK shiny fossil hunt SwSh you should be able to find what I'm talking about. Other than that, just maybe silly little things or cheating at Mario Party mashing games. The other night I was playing co op Kirby with the gf and I was mapping turbo to the down button so I could rapidly crouch and it was just silly. Great video again, wish you well and keep up the great content! :)

Love these things, as a old Gamecube owner with huge hands PERFECT! 👌🏾 I play handheld as much as do docked. Perfect for competitive smash & Mario Kart not to mention anything "old Nintendo"

I remember playing Star Fox Adventures on GAmeCube and there was a thing where you had to show strength by pressing the A button really fast and I could never do it… turbo made it super easy

Great editing and content, and I like that you include your equipment in the description. I've been debating an OLED upgrade and was curious to see you are sticking with the original, as well. Any thoughts on the OLED Switch or your reason for not upgrading? Have you tried it out? I suppose a lot of people figure a new console will be launching soon, anyway, so it might not be worth it. But I've gotten really curious because almost every review I've watched of the OLED says it's a truly substantial difference, which I find hard to believe from a ~1 inch bigger screen. Maybe I'm wrong.

If you play animal crossing you will quite fast understand why turbo is very nice to have 😅 I do it alot and is waiting for this to be delivered for the moment :)

Honestly I wouldn't recommend this for competitive smash, I'm nowhere near pro level but as a casual high skill player nothing will ever beat either the new gc controller or the PowerA wireless controller. They are not bad but I still felt like I was limited with the "fluidity" of the controller if that makes sense.

Can’t stop thinking about the big issues people who smash controllers have. That’s not normal. Specially when oficial GameCube controllers aren’t easy to buy.

The handles are too small to use comfortably when on the switch.

Hey Mike! Great video. I preordered this controller a few weeks ago and should be receiving it at the end of this month. Thank you for your honest opinions and I will bear in mind the face button activation points. I definitely prefer my buttons to be more clicky, but I can understand that the original style was a but more squishy. Does the middle attachment have a charger on it or does each joycon charge separately?

Went to sub and i already am!!! I need a controller thats big enough and has enough grip for my hands. Ive tried the hori split pad pro and its still too thin, would you say that this controller is bigger?

for those waiting for the nyxi controllers to get back in stock, I would highly recommend the MOBAPAD as being good replacements

I got mine, too, but noticed that sometimes the A button sometimes gets stuck for like a fraction of a second. Kinda bothering me now that I noticed...

I think I like shank mods GameCube joy cons better

The one thing nobody seems to mention in these video reviews of this controller is that you can't hold a weapon behind you in MarioKart by not letting go of the ZL trigger. Why this controller can't seem to do this I have no idea but as major flaws go this is one of them. GC controller has stood the test of time and is great, so great that not only on Smash Bros but on MarioKart it has served as the ultimate pad for competitive Smash and MK gamers on the Wii and Wii U, yet this hasn't been addressed! I have just bought this pad and it's the first thing I discovered, just a bit disappointed. Other than that it's a beautiful looking pad and does the job for most games, sadly nothing to write home about

Worst gc controller for smash bros dont buy this shit, i bought 2 of these cause they looked promising. They snap back like there is no tomorrow and god forbid if you accidentally press one of 4 useless turbo and setting buttons mid game play your match is screwed. Dont worry, with 4 of them you cant miss them. They feel very awkward and the sticks are way too sensitive and finicky. Maybe you wont get joystick drift with these but you're gonna pay 100$ for controllers that feel and plays like the 20$ cheap ones.

This look very uncomfortable and ugly on the switch. I would throw them away if I got it for free.

Well I can't wait for Nintendo to release their official version for these. Not interested in a third party version.
