So they're using optimization software which automotive engineers have been using for decades, to design a space frame chassis, a technology which has literally been around since the 50s and is completely outdated. There's nothing innovative or new about what theyre doing, in fact this is probably the easiest way for someone to build their own custom chassis. I think what they're doing is cool, but to pretend that they are the first to do this is either very ignorant or dishonest.

How come the 3d printed model looks nothing like the cars they were testing?

I assume they're only taking the largest load-bearing members from the frames that are spit out, and approximating that as well as they can with as few bends as possible. The frames that are spit out are superleggera-type frames, which are very time consuming to actually make. So, they iterate until they find a simplified version that performs as expected before trying out the more complicated version, removing much of the material and time cost in the prototyping phase. At least, that's what I would do.

AimlessMoto They test the car made by the AI and then feed the AI the data from testing that car. That new data helps create an new, better car. Rinse and repeat. They just didn't show many of the original AI cars but showed later generations. I think the mule was probably a gen. 2. I think I saw one car that had a gen. 1 AI created chassis.

Because that's the latest that is yet to be constructed in parts during the taping. I'd be curious to know if they've finally got all of the necessary parts complete before constructing it all together on the chassis membrane.

no, hacker is DIY. not reliant on marketed mass produced items geared merely for consumerism, a hacker is an independant problem solver; philosophizes, entertains curousity, experiments, tinkers, above all, MAKES.

While i enjoy this. Not sure why Bloomberg is covering it. Also understand the significants of what they are doing. Small teams in every field are now doing, what giant corporations could only do.

Technically it's use of genetic algorithms in the design it's not really that new and actually dates back to the 1980s and the concept goes all the way back to a proposal by Alan Turing in 1950.

the designs look comleatly organic. crazy to see how organic designs are actually the best ones something man made has strayed far from. they look like cars maid living then evolved millions of years.

they have strengths, yes, but they have always and will have the price to go with it. We design mostly for affordability, this is anything but that, it's the same reason why custom/hand made costs more than production
