This is awesome! We make a large format 3d printer that should be able to print those finders all at once with a separate support material. If you guys are doing much more of this or have a project that could use a larger printer let us know we would be happy to work with you guys on something like this.

I built a 1.5x1.5x2.5 meter printer for projects like this and ended up selling it because it only had 2 nozzles pla and support filament, with 5 smaller printers I was able to print 4 times faster because I had mor nozzles working at the same time, also if a part failed it wasn't a huge issue in comparison to 1 large print

As soon as you said that you 3D printed the fenders I had a hunch you used those big ass Ellegoo printer's, and the video proved my hunch right. This car is so awesome, and the fact that 3D printing is part of it kicks it up a notch for me. Can't wait to see it finished!

Progress is looking great!! A tip I could give would be to tab in an egg-crate on the back side of the molds after cure, before removing from the plug. This will keep the geometry from changing under vac when making parts. For what you have done so far, I'm very happy to see the consistency of completion. A lot of projects of this scale hit major delays or never see the light of day. Excited for the next video!

I almost did this, then found a large form CNC machinist near me. Got a whole side of a car CNC into a negative or “plug” to lay one piece of carbon into SO much cheaper, easier and quicker. The foam machined plug was like $390, just send them the cad file and happy days. It is one use but I’ve had not deformities or anything. Had the option to pay a few hundred more dollarydoos to have a 5x reusable one but I’m only make one Porsche haha

HI, just to say (I don't know if you know it) but avoid direct contact between metal (any kind) and carbon fiber, it will induce corrosion if there is water. You need to isolate the 2 surfaces from each other. It's simple, most people use a ply of glass fiber between carbon fiber and the metal (or any other non-conductive material). Good project continue like that.

I don't know much about car fab, but I know my way around 3D printing. I came to learn how it is used for carbon fiber work. I appreciate you showing how it is done. Nothing wrong with how you did the 3d printing in vase mode. A few 3D printing things you might try. In prusa slicer you can split the model and add connectors so they snap together so they are already registered. I would probably do infill over the vase mode to give it some better structure, like 10% and use adaptive cubic infill to keep the print times down. The infill will keep the parts strong and consistent. When gluing 3d printed parts, epoxy works, but there are bonding agents for PLA and PETG plastics. It might save some cure time and effort over the hefty applicator. Check out gloop or ca glue works well too. All just suggestions in hopes that it helps a bit, no worries if it doesn't work for your purpose.🍻🍻

For future reference, you can buy material 50" wide, but almost any length you could want. One piece for the outer skin and however many pieces you wish for the inside layers. :) No need at all for any butted joints because of a 50" limit.

DuraMix 40/40 FTW!!! I have always spoken that stuffs praises! Not sure what it's called over here but where i'm from it's Duramix 40/40, and I used to use it a ton when making custom plastic Head Unit plates since my main work consisted of Fiberglass subwoofer enclosures and the such, from time to time this included making paint matching smooth custom Head Unit surrounding plates to replace the stock that would leave section of space, and mine would fic it up to look custom but also factory look if thats what a client so desired.

Very nice, goes to show what some 3D printers can do. I've always kindof dismissed printing for carving foam but I think at this point the 'ease' of just letting the printer chug might trump the work of loading foam onto a large router that is only going to get one side real good. For mirroring contours and details my go-to is always just take some paper and trace the shape on one side, cut the line out to make a template and tape it down on the other side. I suppose if the left and right sides don't lay quite the same it might push the template off a bit but wouldn't be too bad unless they were notably different topologies.
